00:00Today, July 28, we celebrate Saint Samson, bishop and missionary, one of the seven founding saints of Brittany.
00:14Born towards the end of the 5th century in Wales, into a noble Christian family,
00:20Samson was entrusted at a young age to the monastery of Lianuit Major, where he received austere and rigorous training.
00:28From his childhood, he showed a great love of God, a lively intelligence and a spirit of prayer.
00:37Very early on, he felt the call to a more radical life.
00:41He left his community to live as a hermit, in silence and seclusion.
00:47His influence attracts many disciples.
00:51Ordained bishop against his will, he accepted out of obedience and devoted his life to evangelization.
00:58Around the year 548, he crossed the sea to come to Armorica, the future Brittany,
01:05where he founded a monastery in Dole, which would become a major spiritual center.
01:11There he fights pagan practices and proclaims the gospel with strength, gentleness and miracles.
01:19Saint Samson was also a man of peace.
01:21He interceded with kings and clan leaders to reconcile the people.
01:27Its influence extended far beyond the borders of Brittany.
01:32It is said that he died surrounded by his disciples, in deep peace, around 565.
01:38His tomb in Dole, Brittany, quickly became a place of pilgrimage.
01:45Even today, he is venerated as one of the patron saints of Brittany,
01:51invoked for peace, fidelity to the gospel and strength in trial.
01:57Prayer to Saint Samson, missionary of fire and builder of peace.
02:06You who left your land to proclaim the gospel,
02:10inspires in us the courage of beginnings,
02:13faithfulness in spiritual battles
02:16and the humility of God's servants.
02:20Intercede for our families, our churches, our land.
02:25Obtain for us peace, light and strength of heart.
02:32Saint Samson, pray for us.
