00:00Mr. President, I thank you for convening this meeting.
00:07I also thank ASG Jenka for his briefing.
00:14And we listened attentively to Mr. Eli David
00:21as he shared his personal account concerning the fate
00:27of his brother who remains in captivity in Gaza.
00:37His brother should never have stayed in captivity
00:42if the ceasefire in Gaza was not abruptly breached
00:49by the Israeli occupying power.
00:53Let us be clear.
00:56Algeria does not stand idle before the suffering of humankind.
01:04Wherever pain works, our conscience works with it.
01:12For us, the call of humanity is not a choice.
01:18It is a sacred duty.
01:22Every human being, regardless of gender, color, creed or border,
01:33civilian and soldiers alike, as Mr. Aviatar David,
01:42deserve to be treated humanly and to live with dignity.
01:48We do not weigh lives on scales of interest.
01:55There are no double standards in our moral compass.
02:02What we ask for the Palestinian people, we ask for all people.
02:15And Algeria, Algeria holds the right to food as sacred.
02:20It is not a privilege.
02:23It is a right.
02:25A right enshrined in Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
02:33The right of everyone to an adequate standard of living.
02:39A right to food.
02:42A right to dignity.
02:43A right to dignity.
02:44A right to life.
02:49We have long warned of the catastrophe in Gaza.
02:58We have echoed repeatedly the plights of a Palestinian starving people.
03:09We have joined the calls made by nearly every voice on earth, except a few.
03:22And today, this meeting is called by the Israeli occupying power,
03:30who blatantly denied the famine in Gaza.
03:35The same occupying power that cut off food, water, electricity and medicine in Gaza.
03:47The same power that on July 29th was condemned by United Nations experts.
03:57They said it plainly, and I quote,
04:04Israel's act in Gaza are barbaric.
04:09Government officials may be committing crime under the Rome Statutes.
04:16Extermination by starvation.
04:20End of quote.
04:22These are not our words.
04:26These are the findings of international experts.
04:31Mr. President, what has been allowed very recently into Gaza as humanitarian relief is a drop in the notion of need.
04:47Airdrops are not the solution.
04:54You cannot feed people from the sky while allowing the sealing of the land under them.
05:08The Israeli occupying power must open all crossing, all roads, all lifelines.
05:21This is not a request.
05:23Let me be clear.
05:25Humanitarian access is a legal obligation under the Geneva Conventions.
05:33It's not a favour.
05:35It is not negotiable.
05:37It cannot be used as a bargaining chip in exchange for those held in captivity.
05:48The IPC has spoken.
05:52The worst-case scenario is unfolding in Gaza.
05:58Famine thresholds have been crossed.
06:02Malnutrition is rampant among all people in Gaza,
06:08including, unfortunately, including those in captivity.
06:14The reality long denied by the Israeli occupying power has never been a secret to anyone.
06:28It was known.
06:31It was felt.
06:33It was lived daily by the people of Gaza.
06:38Today, the image that shocked some should surprise no one.
06:48Food and security grips every household.
06:53Hunger is not an exception.
06:56It is the rule.
06:57The truth, long suppressed, is now visible in all who choose to see, not to shrug off.
07:13According to some sources, as of yesterday, credible sources, 180 people have died from starvation.
07:28Among them, 93 children.
07:35This is real.
07:36This is undeniable.
07:39There were lives, not statistics.
07:45They had dreams.
07:47They had names.
07:52Names?
07:57Zeynab Abu Halib, a baby who died from malnutrition.
08:04Misk al-Midhum, a child suffering from malnutrition.
08:29Razaan Abu Zahar, who died, died of hunger.
08:34Razaan Abu Zahar, who died of hunger.
08:41Razaan Abu Zahar, who died, died of hunger.
08:46Razaan Abu Zahar, who died, died of hunger.
09:05Razaan Abu Zahar, who died of hunger.
09:11Mr. President, more than 61,000 Palestinians have already been killed.
09:17Since the month of March, more than 1,500 were killed while seeking food.
09:34and over, over 100,000, 150,000 were injured.
09:47What we are witnessing is not erratic.
09:52It is methodical.
09:57Call it what it is, genocide, genocide.
10:04Genocide, as described by Israeli voices,
10:11by David Grossman, by Guy Schale, and other,
10:20as seen by humanitarian on the ground,
10:28as felt, as felt by the whole world.
10:32And still, and still some denied it.
10:40No ignorance can excuse it.
10:43No silence can justify it.
10:48Future generations will ask, where were you?
10:53Where were you?
10:56Where were you when Gaza was starving?
11:02In the Security Council?
11:05Where were you when children died searching for food,
11:11for bread?
11:13In the Security Council?
11:14Where were you when an entire people was crushed
11:23in the name of security?
11:25And history will record those who so often, so often,
11:29lectured us on the right to self-defense.
11:32Those who so often, so often, lectured us on the right to self-defense.
11:45Those who denied the crime were complicit.
11:51Those who stayed silent were witnesses of shame.
11:58Mr. President, injustice, injustice must never, never be normalized.
12:13It cannot become the new ordinary.
12:20That's why we call firmly and repeatedly for a ceasefire.
12:29To save lives.
12:30To save hopes.
12:32To save dreams.
12:34To save dreams.
12:36Not yet dreamed.
12:39It's why we call for an immediate,
12:42immediate, and conditional, and permanent ceasefire.
12:47I thank you.
