00:53Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from De La Sous Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.

01:31This Wednesday, August 6, marks Bolivia's 200th anniversary of independence, for these
01:44several commemorative events are on the way throughout the nation.
01:47In an oral session at the House of Liberty, the President of the Provincial State, which
01:52Arce stressed the importance of unity to continue building on the conquests achieved by independence
01:56heroes and the people.
01:58The Bolivian President warned against division, stressing that only united with Bolivians
02:05prevent a return to neoliberal models.
02:08For his part, Vice President David Choquehuanca addressed the continued struggle to decolonize
02:13Republican thinking that drives the nation away from the plurinational system.
02:19Brothers and sisters, from the awareness, from the roots of the great majorities, we must
02:34acknowledge that the war for independence did not make us independent and free to all.
02:44The plurinational state, colonial, racist, and throughout centuries did not manage to solve
03:01the issues, basic issues, of the majorities of the national territory.
03:12Bolivians have been celebrating the Bicentennial since the start of the month on Wednesday,
03:18been started with the raising of the flag in the state capital of Sucre, in the department
03:23of Chukisaca, where thousands headed by President Luis Arce gather at the historic Plaza 25 de
03:29Mayo in front of Casa de la Libertad.
03:31Afterwards, the head of state received the formal greeting from the international delegations
03:35present.
03:36During the day, significant cultural activities will unfold, including a concert by the Youth
03:39Symphony Orchestra of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
03:45And in this context, the government of Venezuela sent heartfelt congratulations to the sister nation
03:54of Bolivia in its Bicentennial of independence.
03:57Through an official statement, the Bolivarian government extended its warmest greetings to
04:01the government and people of the plurinational state of Bolivia.
04:04The greeting highlights how this founding act was the fruit of the unwavering courage of the
04:10indigenous peoples, of brave women and men, who rose up against colonialism.
04:15The communique follows by stating Bolivia has been an example of resistance, dignity, and
04:19rebellion, building its destiny from the hands of a conscious and sovereign people.
04:24In its closing remarks, the Venezuelan government reaffirms its commitment to the unity of our
04:28peoples and to the libertarian ideals that unite us.
04:38And we stay in Venezuela as government representative, laid a wreath at the National Pantheon in Caracas
04:43in the framework of the Bicentennial Bolivia's independence.
04:46Present at the ceremony were Venezuelan Vice President José Rodríguez, Minister of Interior
04:51Justice and Peace, José Cabello, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, among other authorities.
04:56The tribute to the South American country was laid in front of the sarcophagus of the father
05:01of the nation, Liberator Simón Bolívar, an offering that highlights the strong historical
05:06bonds of unity, respect and fraternity between both countries.
05:11In our news, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, offered on Tuesday a balance of economic
05:20and social achievements during his three years in office.
05:23During his speech, the Colombian president highlighted the advances in the education and health sectors,
05:28as well as the low inflation and poverty indexes.
05:31Likewise, President Petro denounced the media censorship of presidential speeches and activities,
05:36a censorship that responds to the interests of groups of the Colombian oligarchy.
05:40In this sense, the head of state condemned the questioning of the country's justice system
05:45after the sentence against former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez for the crimes of procedure
05:49of fraud and bribery of witnesses.
05:52They did not recover, it was Tuduka's friends in Avianca.
06:00In the press, El Tiempo, RCN, that is why they applaud Uribe, that is why they are not even
06:07able to mention or respect justice.
06:12They disrespected every day, saying that Uribe should not be in jail.
06:18I am not going to get into that, nor am I going to say yes or no.
06:22But justice is respected in Colombia, and in the United States, Colombians who go there to destroy
06:30justice in Colombia, traitors to the homeland, not opposition, and opposition does not have that indignity.
06:39Let them defend themselves in the courts, they have the right as the one, and the judges should be free of what they decide,
06:48completely free, not judges with fear, not judges thinking that they are going to be killed,
06:54or kneeling before the networks and in the press insinuate that they are going to be killed for doing justice in Colombia.
07:01So, we will all kill each other, because for peace, there has to be justice, and there will be peace in Colombia.
07:10Whatever its decisions are, which this president will respect.
07:16Furthermore, the Colombian president condemned the censorship by the media of presidential speeches
07:20and activities depraving citizens of their right to information from diverse sources.
07:25So, to become independent from power, and so that the power does not speak alone,
07:34now it is the turn of the president of the republic to speak as well, who is censored every day,
07:39as it happened with the great, beautiful cultural act, one of the best that has been presented in Colombia
07:46in its history, in the 500 years of Santa Marta, which commemorates not the conqueror, not Bastidas,
07:52but the 100 years of resistance that arose with Bastidas, the indigenous people who later turned into the people of Bolívar,
08:02and who then, instead of conquest, speak of freedom.
08:06They censored all that, they censored the act of Santa Marta, they censored the president,
08:12but these speeches serve to put our point of view,
08:16to make the citizenship discerned and make decisions,
08:23and this speech then has to do with the presentation of data.
08:31The press also censored it.
08:35Some few showed up on July 20th at the Congress,
08:39but they prefer to talk about junk and to make bad accounts
08:44than to talk about the real evaluations of the government.
08:52We have our first break coming up.
08:54Remember to join us on TikTok at TELESO English.
08:56We'll find news in different formats and news updates.
08:59Welcome back.

09:31although Lula clarified that he will not address the tariffs imposed by the U.S.
09:34on Brazilian experts set at 50%, which have generated bilateral tensions.

10:35which determines the safeguarding of the borders to prevent crimes committed
10:39by organized crime and international drug trafficking.
10:41With urgency and 91 votes in favor,
10:45the Nicaraguan legislative body unanimously approved the border territory law
10:48to strengthen its sovereignty and guarantee peace, security, and territorial integrity.
10:52The initiative defines that the border territory is property of the state,
10:55limiting 15 kilometers from the borderline towards the interior of the country
10:59to prevent external threats and to confront crimes
11:02that threaten the security of Nicaraguan families,
11:05strengthening the legal framework for the defense of the interests of the people.
11:08The approval of the border territory law is fundamental to guarantee
11:20the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security of Nicaragua
11:27by establishing a clearly delimited area of 15 kilometers from the conventional border.
11:35The state reaffirms its control over an essential strategic zone
11:41to prevent external interference in illicit activities
11:46such as money laundering, drug trafficking, and human trafficking.
11:51This does not affect any Nicaraguan who is established in the zone.
12:00He continues to be established, he continues to develop his normal life,
12:05but this is a zone controlled by the Nicaraguan state
12:10to ensure the peace, security, and territorial integrity of all Nicaraguans.

12:22disembarking at Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport.
12:27The aim of this deployment is to help curb criminal activity in the region
12:31as part of a broader strategy by Mexico to confront organized crime in several states,
12:36including Jalisco, using its military forces.
12:39The Mexican government has deployed troops across several states
12:41to bolster public security due to the lack of capacity of local police forces
12:46to address the militarized criminal groups.
12:48Its deployment in Jalisco aligns with similar increases of soldiers
12:51in other violence-affected regions, such as Sinaloa,
12:54where the group presence has passed 11,000 amid escalating cartel conflicts.
13:11And rescuers were scouring a devastated Himalayan village in northern India
13:19to find dozens of missing people a day after flash floods killed at least four
13:22and left many others trapped under the debris.
13:26Floodwaters triggered by intense rains gushed down the narrow mountains Tuesday
13:30into Dharale, a mountain village in Uttarakhand state,
13:34sweeping away homes, roads, and a local market.
13:36Teams of army and disaster force rescuers were searching for dozens,
13:40including at least 11 Indian Army soldiers who are believed to be trapped under the rubble.
13:46The body said rescue workers had recovered four bodies by Wednesday,

14:22Local authorities and the Department of Social Welfare and Development responded swiftly,
14:27distributing $4,485 worth of food and relief supplies to the affected families.

16:24warned that the project promoted by the Trump administration envoy aims to grant
16:28strategic advantages to Israel, denouncing that this constitutes a direct attack
16:32against national sovereignty.
16:33Kassam denounced that Washington's proposal calls for the dismantling
16:37Hezbollah's defensive capabilities in just 30 days,
16:40in exchange for the alleged partial Israeli withdrawal from three Lebanese areas.
16:45Hezbollah condemned that while Beirut calls for the disarmament of the resistance,

17:41humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.
17:43The meeting was requested by the Israeli occupation and supported by the United States and the United
17:47Kingdom and France.
17:48During the session, there was a double narrative, one promoted by Western powers to prioritize the
17:53return of Israeli captives, and another supported by multiple nations that highlighted the genocide
17:59of campaign waged by the Israeli occupation against more than 2 million besieged Palestinians.
18:04In this context, the Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations, Riyad Mansoor, reiterated
18:08his call for a ceasefire and the opening of border crossings.
18:11And the United States President Donald Trump pointed out that he would not oppose to Israel's plans
18:23to take over Gaza.
18:25In recent statements to the press, the head of state assured that his main worries are on
18:29the people in Gaza receiving food, while on the potential occupation he manifested it was
18:33going to be up to Israel.
18:35This way, Trump reaffirmed his stance as Washington continues providing millions of dollars in
18:40military aid to Israel, an arms supply that has significantly increased since October 2023.
18:46The Saanese army currently occupies 86 percent of the Palestinian territory, while the enclaves
18:51decimated population face daily attacks and a grave famine.
18:54The Kremlin's press office informed that dialogue will prevail after the meeting between the White
19:12House Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Russia's President, Vladimir Putin.
19:17Three hours after the meeting, Kirib Dmitriev, the Russian President's Special Representative
19:21of Economic Cooperation between Foreign Countries, spoke and thanked the effort for making this
19:25meeting possible.
19:27The gathering took place two days before the imposed deadline by the United States President
19:30Donald Trump, in which he demanded Moscow to stop the military campaign in Ukraine or face
19:35new sanctions.
19:36According to the Kremlin, it's the fifth gathering between Putin and Witkoff so far this year,
