00:00And it gives me great pleasure for Her Excellency to present Mr Way with the St John Save a Life Award.
00:15I wanted to let you know it's been an honour to present that award to you on behalf of St John,
00:20to celebrate your recovery Aaron and Aidan,
00:23and to pay tribute to the fortitude, compassion and courage you show Josh
00:27on that dreadful morning at Ferdinand St Edmunds College.
00:30I know it meant a lot to people of Canberra to see you acting the way you did,
00:34and it means a lot to them and me as a Canberra-born Governor-General and Pryor
00:38to be able to be with you today.
00:40And I hope that this gives you some comfort about what must have been a terribly traumatic event today.
00:45I hope this is a place of peace and calm where we can welcome you and enjoy the afternoon
00:51and get to know you all a little better.
00:53Do you want to get the award Josh?
00:55I'm...honoured.
00:59It must feel quite surreal after what you went through to be here just a few months later.
01:04Yeah.
01:07I think it's all sort of hidden home.
01:09And what do you guys think? You must be proud of your dad?
01:12Yeah.
01:13Yeah.
01:14What do you think, Aidan?
01:16Like, because it's, you know, we were told he saved your life and...
01:20Yeah, I'm very grateful that he was there at the time and saved my life, yeah.
01:24When I read like everybody else did in the Canberra Times about Josh's amazing act,
01:32we also had a paramedic that just said, definitely Josh saved a life.
01:39And I rang our board chair and said, we need to do something.
01:44We worked out the Save a Life Award and there was just simply no question about giving it to Josh
01:52in recognition of somebody having the confidence and the skills and absolutely that quick thinking
02:01to just jump in no matter what and save somebody's life.
02:06Because we all know in a medical emergency, minutes and even seconds count.
02:11And Josh proved that.
02:13And we are so grateful to have him in our community.
02:16And we are so proud of him and the boys.
