Ukraine’s Independence Day Attack On Russia: Drone Strike Causes Nuclear Leak In Russia? Kursk Hit

Ukraine marked its Independence Day with a wave of bold drone strikes deep inside Russian territory, sparking massive fires at an oil refinery and a gas terminal in Ust-Luga. One drone even hit the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, triggering a blaze though no radiation leak was reported. The strikes came just days after Russia dismissed U.S.-brokered peace efforts between Putin and Zelensky, signaling a dramatic escalation in the three-and-a-half-year war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that Ukraine is “not a victim but a fighter,” as Russia pushed on with its own overnight barrage of missiles and Iranian-made Shahed drones. With tens of thousands dead, millions displaced, and energy infrastructure under siege, the conflict shows no signs of ending. Ukraine’s drone campaign is not just military—it’s economic warfare, aiming to choke Moscow’s vital fuel revenues that fund the grinding war.
