00:00One in five young people have felt pressured to share explicit images.
00:05Many later discovered their pictures were being passed around without consent,
00:09leaving them anxious and regretful.
00:11Campaigners warn children are being exposed to harmful content earlier than ever.
00:15Children are feeling shamed about that and worried about who else they turn to,
00:21so they don't want to get into trouble with whoever's at home or school.
00:25So turning to Childline to talk to us, and we from last year saw a 7% increase
00:30in the number of young people contacting us about this issue.
00:33It's an issue that goes far beyond embarrassment
00:35and one that technology firms say they're now working to tackle.
00:39Vodafone and HMD have launched a phone designed to block explicit content,
00:43but how does the technology actually work?
00:46There's a tool in the background that's been trained on over 22 million different images,
00:50and so it's been really well refined to identify nudity on both adults and children.
00:57And so if a child finds themselves in a position like Helen was describing there,
01:01where they're under pressure in a live stream or even just to take a photo,
01:05it will detect through the camera that, and it doesn't matter which application they're using,
01:09but using the camera, it will detect that nudity and it will just simply block it.
01:14It will interfere with the signal.
01:16But safety isn't just about technology.
01:18Experts say parents still need to set clear boundaries and have honest conversations.
01:23Parents often feel really pressured to get that first device for their child.
01:27That Pesta power is very real, as we know as parents and carers.
01:31But we want parents to feel in control and comfortable about the decisions that they're making.
01:36And this type of new technology that James outlined puts parents back in the driving seat.
01:41They're in control, and the child's phone can develop along with their emotional maturity.
01:47The device was designed with input from parents and children worldwide,
01:51focusing on simple tools to help families feel reassured.
01:54They were telling us that they were overwhelmed by what they had to do.
01:58It was very confusing what the options were.
02:01And so out of the box, the phone is just a really simple phone.
02:04Phone calls, text messages, calculator.
02:08That's about it.
02:08And then when the parents are having that conversation with their children about what's next,
02:13what they're ready for next, it might be learning a language.
02:16It might be adding the banking application to the device.
02:18Then the parents can add that when they're ready to do it.
02:21Campaigners say technology like this can give families peace of mind,
02:24but they warn no device can replace open conversations about staying safe online.
