00:00Are you entering the top left? You see him right here in the blue shirt. Right here.
00:12He will go into the TSA area. He has a high interest in that area.
00:16You'll see him there. Our officers armed with a shoulder graft
00:20are able to pick him out of that crowded area
00:22and are able to take him to custody.
00:3027 or more lives could have been lost today because an individual came into
00:42Hartfield-Jackson and after being reported coming out of Cartersville,
00:49Georgia, that had mental challenges. This individual, thankfully, his family went
00:54to the Cartersville Police and shared with them what was going on and they
00:58alerted APD and APD and the airport were aware and this crisis was averted. But
01:05this individual did have a semi-automatic weapon and this individual was
01:10mentally challenged. And when you have those combinations together, it can turn
01:14out to be deadly. People that are mentally challenged, and he happened to also have
01:19been a felon from a few years back. So he's a felon with a semi-automatic weapon
01:25and he's got mental challenges and he's approaching the world's busiest and
01:29most efficient airport. This crisis, we're thankful to God and to good
01:34information and good intel and good people for this crisis being averted. We
01:38have taken into custody and have under arrest a Billy Cagle, age 49, resident of
01:44Cartersville, Georgia. At approximately 9.40 this morning, the Atlanta Police
01:49Department was alerted by the Cartersville Police Department of a potential threat
01:52at the airport. Cartersville Police Department was alerted by the family
01:57of Mr. Cagle that he was streaming on social media, that he was headed to the
02:02airport, in their words, to shoot it up. And the family stated that he was in
02:06possession of an assault rifle. What we didn't know is that Mr. Cagle had already
02:12arrived at the airport. In fact, we know that he arrived at 9.29 going to the South
02:17Terminal and that he entered the airport shortly thereafter at 9.31. At that time,
02:23we do not believe he was armed. He entered the South Domestic Terminal and from
02:27video we will show you he seemed to be very interested in the TSA check-in area,
02:31which you can see was heavily, heavily crowded with travelers.
02:36Clearly moving from the area that he was scouted and was moving back to that area.
02:42Mr. Cagle was checked out by UMass and determined he had no injuries and he would be
02:47good, but he wasbulfilled by the staff.
