00:26So what are the details behind this health care stalemate dragging out the government shutdown?

00:33Democrats want to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits.
00:37These help Americans pay for health insurance through the federal marketplace.
00:41Without them, Americans could see price spikes next year.
00:4480% of Americans want to extend the ACA tax cuts. Amazing.
00:49Dems also want to repeal Medicaid cuts Republicans approved in July as part of the big, beautiful bill.
00:56But the GOP doesn't want to extend the ACA tax credits.
00:59These were originally passed during the pandemic and Republicans want to scale it back.
01:04That's the problem with Obamacare. The subsidies are so much.
01:08It's billions and billions of dollars is being wasted.

01:13Will immigrants without legal residency status get free or subsidized health care with what Democrats are proposing?
01:20The answer is mostly no.
01:22Immigrants without any type of legal US residency status do not qualify for federal health care programs, according to healthcare.gov.
01:31Now here's why it's mostly no.
01:33Hospitals are obligated to treat emergency patients as they come through the door, regardless of residency status.
01:41If that patient meets other Medicaid eligibility requirements, aside from immigration status, Medicaid must pay the hospital for that care.
01:49However, changes in the big, beautiful bill changed how much Medicaid needs to pitch in.
01:54And that's what Dems are trying to repeal.
