00:00To continue in the United States, several citizens are questioning the release of files
00:04related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which contained more than 70% of the data censored.
00:13Jennifer Freeman, a lawyer, provides more details on this obscure case. Let's see.
00:20The Department of Justice released thousands of files related to sex offender and sex trafficker
00:27Jeffrey Epstein, in a highly anticipated document release. Published records are the result of
00:34congressional pressure on the Trump administration. The administration had initially promised to release
00:41exhaustive information on Epstein, but in July it abruptly changed its position. Last month,
00:49after a bipartisan uprising, Congress finally passed a bill requiring the administration to make the
00:56files public. The release of documents related to Epstein included a written report in which a
01:02former employee of his went to the FBI in 1996 to accuse him of possession and distribution of child
01:10pornography.
01:14Maria Farmer was a professional artist. She was about 25 years old. She had graduated from the New York
01:22Academy of Art, a figurative arts school in New York, and she was working as an employee for Jeffrey
01:29Epstein in New York City.
01:32Maria and her lawyer are two of the many people who tried to seek justice for the victims of the incident,
01:39and were not believed. Since the beginning of their request for an investigation in 1996,
01:46there had been minimal progress on the part of the federal government until last December 19th,
01:53when Farmer's testimony was corroborated.
01:58We've spent many years trying to get her records through Freedom of Information Act requests,
02:04which are the classic way to get them. The most recent Freedom of Information Act request I made
02:10was in January, I got a response in January 2025, that's earlier this year, and they told me that
02:17they wouldn't get back to me before November 2027 to just answer my request. And this has been the,
02:26and when we've seen anything from the government which is infrequent, it's highly redacted information,
02:31and we've never seen anything before corroborating her 1996 report, but we just saw it yesterday,
02:38for the first time in 30 years, which is remarkable, remarkable, really remarkable.
02:48All we know right now from the documents is that there was a clear and corroborated report
02:55that Maria Farmer did exactly what she has said for 30 years that she did. She reported Epstein
03:01to the authorities, to the federal authorities, to the FBI. And as far as we can tell, and I wish I knew,
03:07Kristen, I wish I had more information out of the files or otherwise, it looks like the government
03:12did absolutely nothing. Maria's cooperation in the case, combined with other factors,
03:20has made it possible for some of the perpetrators to be charged and brought to justice with the full
03:26force of the law. Maria said it beautifully to me yesterday. She said it's tears of joy and tears of
03:34sadness, tears of joy because she's now validated. She's vindicated. Yes, you know, she did what she
03:43said she did. And the world can now see that. And all those naysayers, and there have been a lot of
03:50naysayers accusing her of not telling the truth, who disregarded her, discarded her, dismissed her for so
03:57many years, decades. She's now has some kind of corroboration and vindication that this is true.
04:04And the sadness, the tears of sadness, because look at the waste of the 30 years,
04:10and not only for her, but for so many victims, whether it's Virginia Giuffre or all the other survivors
04:16who didn't have to be subjected to this kind of child sex crime.
04:20Freeman stated that the U.S. Department of Justice report has not been released
04:28in its entirety and that there are still defense attorneys and survivors who will continue to
04:34fight for justice.
