Black Nazarene devotees complain of unfair treatment in lining up for kissing of the image

Devotees of the Jesus Nazareno complain that some family members of the Hijos del Nazareno (Children of the Nazarene) break the line for the 'Pahalik' or the kissing of the image of the Black Nazarene unlike ordinary devotees who have been queuing since midnight at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Jan. 7, 2026. Ekki Alvarez, a devotee for 35 years, said only members of the Hijos del Nazareno—not their family members—were allowed inside the Quirino Grandstand. He alleged that some family members disguised themselves by wearing Hijos uniforms to enter, which has prolonged the waiting time for other devotees.
