00:00Air Force One turns back. Trump's Davos arrival hits a snag just hours before his big global speech.
00:07Plus, they're done being polite. European leaders line up to tell Trump, hands off Greenland.
00:13And Washington takes aim at Minnesota. The Fed's now investigating whether state and city leaders are blocking ICE from doing their jobs.
00:23The stories that matter, clear and credible, from across the country to around the world.
00:28These are your unbiased updates from Straight Arrow News.
00:34Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelli.
00:36This morning, President Donald Trump's arrival ahead of his highly anticipated speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos delayed.
00:44Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, who's already in Davos, saying the president will be there about three hours late
00:51after Air Force One was forced to turn around over what the White House called a minor electrical issue.
00:56Instead of his usual jet, Trump is now flying on the plane he normally uses for domestic trips to smaller airports.
01:04That flight took off shortly after midnight.
01:06Ahead of the departure, the president struck an optimistic tone.
01:10How I'm doing to Davos.
01:13I believe it will be very successful, the trip.
01:16But this will be an interesting trip.
01:18I have no idea what's going to happen, but you are well represented.
01:22In Davos, Trump is set to lay out his vision for America's future, including his administration's push to take control of Greenland.
01:31That effort has put him increasingly at odds with NATO countries and European leaders.
01:36But the president says he will meet with various parties about Greenland on the sidelines of the forum.
01:41Ahead of the trip, the president also made a rare and at times unusual appearance in the White House briefing room
01:48on the anniversary of his second inauguration, where he doubled down on his threats over Greenland.
01:53I think that we will work something out when NATO is going to be very happy and where we're going to be very happy.
02:00But we need it for security purposes.
02:02We need it for national security and even world security.
02:05In another moment that's drawing attention, the president also touted his administration's first year record in office.
02:11Here's the book.
02:12These are all things we have.
02:14I'm going to read a few of the samples, but look at this.
02:17These are all each line is something that we did.
02:20Nobody did that before.
02:22And it's big stuff, too.
02:25Look, we have the hottest country in the world.
02:28Among the accomplishments he cited, border enforcement action, economic growth and foreign policy moves.
02:35This morning, as President Trump prepares to take the stage in Davos, a very different story is taking shape around him.
02:42For weeks, the threats, now the tariffs, the push to take Greenland.
02:46Now some leaders are starting to push back.
02:49In Greenland, Prime Minister Jens Frederick Nielsen saying an American use of force is not likely but cannot be ruled out.
02:56Officials there are reviewing civil defense plans.
02:59And protests are growing in nuke Greenland against any American occupation.
03:03Why? Because of comments like these yesterday from Trump.
03:08How far are you willing to go to acquire Greenland?
03:11You'll find out.
03:12That line rippling across Europe.
03:15In Brussels, a Danish lawmaker unloading on Donald Trump from the floor of Parliament.
03:20Anders Vistasen telling the president, quote, F off.
03:24Parliament quickly cut off his mic, but the message landed.
03:27In Davos, French President Emmanuel Macron warning that Europe will not capitulate and saying the continent now has the means to fight back.
03:36Europe has very strong tools now, and we have to use them when we are not respected and when the rules of the game are not respected, by the way.
03:45Macron calling Trump's tariff threats of 10 to 25 percent bullying and warning Europe will not accept pressure over sovereignty.
03:52Then the sharpest critic, an American.
03:55I can't take this complicity.
03:58People rolling over.
04:00I should have brought a bunch of knee pads for all the world leaders.
04:03I mean, handing out crowns and handing.
04:06I mean, this is pathetic.
04:07Nobel Prizes, they are being given away.
04:10I mean, it's just pathetic.
04:12And I hope people understand how pathetic they look on the world stage.
04:17I mean, at least from an American perspective.
04:19It's embarrassing.
04:20California Governor Gavin Newsom, who many believe has eyes on a presidential run in 2028, is in Davos.
04:28He called Europe's response embarrassing and urged leaders to, quote, have a backbone.
04:33All of this just hours before President Trump is set to give his big speech.
04:38The Trump Justice Department is zeroing in on top Minnesota officials this morning,
04:43serving grand jury subpoenas as part of a federal investigation into whether they obstructed immigration enforcement.
04:50Federal prosecutors have served subpoenas to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, State Attorney General Keith Ellison,
04:56Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry, and St. Paul Mayor Kali Hur, along with officials in Ramsey and Hennepin counties,
05:03as part of a grand jury probe into alleged obstruction of federal immigration officers.
05:08The Justice Department is looking at whether public statements or actions by these officials hindered immigration enforcement efforts
05:16during a sweep in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, according to federal sources.
05:20Both Walz and Fry have pushed back, calling the investigation a political tactic aimed at silencing opponents
05:27and saying they were simply voicing concerns about the presence of federal agents in their communities.
05:32The subpoenas come amid widespread protests in Minnesota following the deadly shooting of Renee Goode
05:39by an ICE officer earlier this month, an incident that has intensified clashes between state and federal officials.
05:46One of President Trump's hand-picked prosecutors is now out of a top job,
05:51just hours after a federal judge called her bid to stay in office a charade.
05:55Attorney General Pam Bondi says Lindsay Halligan has left the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Virginia
06:02after a judge barred her from calling herself U.S. Attorney and warned she was defying a binding court order.
06:11Bondi announced Halligan's departure late Tuesday on social media, calling it a significant loss
06:16and blaming Virginia's two Democratic senators for blocking her confirmation.
06:20Earlier in the day, U.S. District Judge David Novak shut down Halligan's continued use of the U.S. Attorney title,
06:28saying in an 18-page ruling it may not continue and calling it a false statement made in direct defiance of the court,
06:35writing, quote,
06:35In short, this charade of Ms. Halligan masquerading as the United States Attorney must come to an end.
06:43Halligan was installed last fall and quickly indicted former FBI Director James Comey
06:47and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
06:51Cases later tossed out after another judge ruled her appointment unconstitutional.
06:56The Justice Department has appealed, but Novak said that ruling still stands as the law of the district.
07:02The court had already begun seeking applicants to replace Halligan after her 120-day interim term expired on Tuesday.
07:09The fight to take over Warner Bros. Discovery just took a sharp turn.
07:14Netflix is now reworking its $72 billion offer, shifting to an all-cash deal.
07:20Netflix's original bid mixed cash and stock, a package worth about $83 billion, but it also carried debt.
07:27Now the company says it's simplifying the offer as it tries to fend off a rival bid from Paramount Skydance,
07:34which is making a hostile play for the studio.
07:37The Warner Bros. Discovery board has already rejected the Paramount Skydance offer,
07:41but the tug-of-war is far from over.
07:43Next up, a shareholder vote on Netflix's all-cash move,
07:47a decision that could decide who controls one of Hollywood's biggest empires.
07:52Finally this morning, she's one of the biggest names in tennis,
07:55and she made sure everyone remembered it.
07:58Take a look at this entrance.
07:59In a show of style and confidence, wow, Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka
08:04walked on to one of the biggest stages in the sport,
08:07wearing an outfit with a parasol, hat, and veil ahead of a first-round match at the Australian Open.
08:14Osaka says the look was inspired by a jellyfish
08:16after her two-year-old daughter got excited about one while they were reading together.
08:21She took the idea to her Nike team and designer Robert Woon,
08:25who told Vogue he's, quote, a huge tennis fan, and jumped on board right away.
08:30Woon even called back to a moment, remember this,
08:32from the 2021 Australian Open when a butterfly landed on Osaka mid-match,
08:38this time adding butterflies to her hat and umbrella.
08:42And the look wasn't just for show.
08:44Osaka backed it up on the court, beating Croatia's Antonia Ruzic in three sets,
08:486-3, 3-6, 6-4.
08:50Osaka says she's now treating every major tournament like it's the Met Gala in New York.
08:57Here's my idea.
08:58I say she should wear that same outfit to the Kentucky Derby in May.
09:02That would stand out, right?
09:03And it would fit in, right, with the celebrities who all dress to the nines
09:07on the celebrity style scene.
09:09That'd be pretty cool.
09:10All right, she looks great.
09:12All right, before we head out, here's what we're tracking today.
09:14On Capitol Hill, a dramatic move against two former First Family members this morning,
09:18as House Republicans consider holding Bill and Hillary Clinton in contempt over their refusal
09:23to testify in the Epstein investigation.
09:26At the Supreme Court, justices hear arguments over whether President Trump can fire a sitting
09:31Fed governor, with Fed Chair Jerome Powell set to show up in person.
09:36And this afternoon, a rare appearance from NASA astronauts, whose mission was cut short
09:40by serious health concerns, now speaking publicly since returning to Earth.
