00:00the you know end of last year we had the lowest level of young people killed um since the beginning
00:06of the century yeah that's a fact there are facts which is the statistics we've talked about they're
00:12irrefutable um and i do think there is some disinformation around around that um which led
00:20to that poll saying that 35 percent of londoners don't feel safe as opposed to the rest of the
00:25country view london as unsafe that's 65 so i think that shows you how that misinformation is playing
00:31into people's perception of london um so i think there's something about getting out and telling
00:35and telling the facts um but i do also recognize that you know if you have known somebody who's
00:41died if you have known someone who has been attacked the impact of that is profound and that is going to
00:47color your your vision of the city even if the figures are you know much smaller and have reduced
00:52um you're not going to escape that and also you know while it's very different um you know from
00:57being attacked as opposed to having your mobile phone snatched again that feeling of safety is going
01:03to be um impinged upon if that is you've had that experience so so for me it's about absolutely getting
01:09the message out about these figures um absolutely countering the disinformation that there is but
01:14being sensitive to the fact that there are challenges still in london and there are some experiences that
01:20for some people won't won't in the most extreme case won't ever leave them really yeah i mean would
01:25you reject that charge of gaslighting would you would you say that there's more work to be done
01:30for the sort of high volume crime level i mean i'd complete i completely reject that what we're looking

01:53be fair to the tories at city hall you know they made that point that that was welcome news that
01:58those figures had gone down um i don't think that's what all londoners want isn't it now if you happen
02:03to be from you know america and you've got other strong opinions maybe that you're playing a very
02:07different agenda but um that's that's really important for us i think to to recognize
