00:02Good evening to you on what is pretty close to an ideal evening for football.
00:08There is barely a cloud evident the world and his wife have gone to great lengths to be here
00:14for a match of great consequence and massive interest in these parts.
00:21Barely a breath of wind, so the football has no excuses for not being at its very best.
00:26The teams I know are pumped for this. They are fantastic scenes.
00:31He's had a goal!
00:33Oh, surely that deserved better.
00:36It didn't quite come off on this occasion, but it only needs a gentle tweak.
00:47Henderson goes looking.
00:51Robertson.
00:59And it's Mane.
01:00Jordan Henderson.
01:02Gomez.
01:06Van Dijk.
01:10Robertson.
01:12And it's Mane.
01:14Jordan Henderson.
01:17Final them.
01:18Mane.
01:20Good idea.
01:21Just poorly executed.
01:25Here it is.
01:27Mane!
01:29Mane is flagged offside.
01:38Good challenge.
01:40He just stood firm.
01:42Madrid desperately needs someone to hold up the ball here.
01:47Robertson.
01:48forward it goes.
01:53Benzabak.
01:59Done very well to intervene.
02:04And he's straight offside.
02:18Robertson.
02:18Robertson.
02:19Just to point out, Peter, that the fullbacks are quite high.
02:22And what do they try to achieve?
02:24Well, it's obviously a move to push the opposition wide men back and give them more to think about.
02:32Robertson.
02:34And it's Firmino.
02:36Well played.
02:37He saw that coming.
02:38Now it's Benzema.
02:41Just brushed off the ball there.
02:50Alexander Ronald.
02:53Doesn't get the pass he's looking for.
02:56Driving on now.
02:58That's a hit!
03:00A real chance at a real let-off.
03:04Okay, it's come to nothing, but it's a warning of further threat on the break.
03:11Look forward.
03:12He'll have a go.
03:15He's pulled off a flying save.
03:17Oh, that's a sparkling save.
03:19Absolutely sparkling.
03:21His reflexes were ultra sharp.
03:26Jordan Henderson.
03:28So, third of the match, or thereabouts, gone.
03:31And we still await the first goal.
03:36Throw it.
03:42Benzema.
03:43Good energy in defence as well.
03:45I think it's great to see that kind of application and desire from a forward who wants to help out
03:50his defence.
03:50I think, you know, any good team, really, your striker should be the first line of that defence.
03:55And he's delivering.
03:58Now it's Benzema.
04:00Well positioned to make that interception.
04:05Alexander Ronald.
04:10Gomez.
04:13Alexander Ronald.
04:14And helps available out wide.
04:18De La Fuente.
04:23That will annoy the manager.
04:24They're making themselves too predictable here.
04:29Benzema tried to play it through.
04:31Oh, that just required a bit more oomph to reach its target.
04:40Fabinho.
04:43Jordan Henderson.
04:47Finds himself eased off the ball.
04:50Going through.
04:51Now a chance to break.
04:53It is quite a run he's making here.
04:56Room for a shot.
05:10Promising move that.
05:11Good inroads into enemy territory.
05:13But no joy.
05:18Fimino.
05:19Fimino.
05:21Played back in.
05:23Questions were asked.
05:25But he's given the answers.
05:29Lucas Vazquez.
05:31He's got away.
05:39Hoist it forward.
05:41James Rodriguez.
05:43That's a foul.
05:44Simple decision for the referee.
05:56Hooper is right behind it.
05:58Well, that was just asking too much of himself from there.
06:03He tries to get it forward quickly.
06:06Looses his balance.
06:08And loses the ball.
06:09That's a promising ball.
06:11He's left his man.
06:13And it is a corner.
06:21That's it!
06:25That's great defending.
06:27To cover for the goalkeeper.
06:28And just get something in the way.
06:32Can't get the better of his opposite number.
06:36And it's played forward.
06:41And the ball needed to be better there.
06:43That's a wasted chance.
06:51That's the throw.
06:58Salah plays it in.
07:01That's a goal kick.
07:22Forward it goes.
07:23Oh, good interception.
07:27Pass needed to be better than that.
07:29And he knows it.
07:33Robertson.
07:35Now it's Mane.
07:40And it's Benzema.
07:46Firmino.
07:48It's been intercepted.
07:49And that will come to nothing.
07:51He's played him through.
07:55He's played him through.
08:07Quick answer goal.
08:09And the assistant referee rightly gives him offside.
08:22Mohamed Salah.
08:28Get a throw in.
08:36Mane.
08:38Now it's Roberto Firmino.
08:40Oh, well defended.
08:41That had to be done.
08:44That's the whistle for half-time.
08:46So another team has broken through.
08:48But certainly not for the one to try.
08:50And an interesting game up to now.
08:52But still goals.
08:55How do you review the first half?
08:57Well, there's one standout, Peter, that needs improving.
09:00And that's the passing.
09:02All too often it's been found wanting.
09:04You know, much to the frustration of everyone around.
09:06And I'd go so far as to say that it's the biggest contributor as to why we have the scoreline
09:12we do.
09:14And a grossing half.
09:15But we're still where we started.
09:170-0.
09:19And we are already promptly back underway.
09:23No score in the first half.
09:25Who's ready to go for it now?
09:30Great strength.
09:32Too strong for his opponent.
09:35Henderson drives it forward.
09:38De La Fuente plays it forward.
09:42Madrid couldn't do a whole lot with it there.
09:45They could do with more sharpness in their passing.
09:48Mane goes looking.
09:57And it's Benzema.
09:59Gomez gets it back.
10:02De La Fuente.
10:07Mohamed Salah tries to get it forward quickly.
10:14Now it's Roberto Firmino.
10:17Firmino showed plenty of zest in getting to the ball, but couldn't quite sort it out.
10:22He's through with chance!
10:29It'll be a throw-in.
10:37Jamez.
10:39And here's Benzema.
10:41And the whistle's gone.
10:43Presumably for offside.
10:56And back to base.
11:01And Dyke.
11:05It's a throw-in.
11:18Jordan Henderson.
11:20Still absolutely nothing to report here goals-wise.
11:29Gets wrestled off the ball.
11:33To the keeper and go again.
11:36Gomez.
11:39Jordan Henderson.
11:43Well into the second half.
11:45And still there's nothing between them.
11:48And here's Mohamed Salah.
11:51And here's Roberto.
11:53That's a pop!
11:56Firmino really got caught in a trap there.
11:58And he just couldn't get out.
12:02Gets away from his opponents.
12:06Well, I'm not quite sure he needed to hold up play quite as much as he did then.
12:11A couple of his teammates were very annoyed.
12:19Robertson.
12:21Hoists it forward.
12:25Forward it goes.
12:28Little accusatory stare there tells the whole story.
12:31Ah, quality deserted them when they really needed it.
12:41Final them.
12:44Now it's Mane.
12:48Casemiro positions himself well and cuts it out.
12:53Balls loose.
12:54Who's getting there?
12:56Mane.
12:57All the balls come loose.
13:10Up for a header!
13:16They're defending, albeit from an unexpected source.
13:19Well, they say that your front lads should be that.
13:21He's gone for goal!
13:24Disappointing finish in the end.
13:26Benzema put absolutely everything he had into that.
13:30Maybe better look next time.
13:32Moran.
13:33Now this from the goal kick.
13:35Now it's Benzema.
13:37He could be in here.
13:39It's Hammers!
13:48Mohamed Salah.
13:49Well, no question as to who's winning the battle in midfield at the moment.
13:53Some very impressive pressing in place here.
13:59And it's played forward.
14:03Wijnaldum tries to get it forward quickly.
14:07Casemiro does well to read it and intercepts.
14:11And it's James Rodriguez.
14:17Lucas Vazquez.
14:19Lucas Vazquez.
14:19He's there to receive it.
14:22Mautic gets it back.
14:30Loose ball.
14:31Who's going to get there?
14:33Mane.
14:34Needed a better pass there.
14:40Benzema.
14:45Look, this can still go either way.
14:47It might be flowing one way, but there's still time for some edge.
14:55And it's Modric.
15:03Lucas Vazquez.
15:05Oh, well played.
15:06He needed to get that right.
15:09Concentration levels are very good, and so is the commitment.
15:12This game could yet yield a winner.
15:21Sergio Ramos cuts it out.
15:24Liverpool really are defending from the front.
15:26They are.
15:27And this type of pressing is a case of counter-attacking a counter-attack.
15:31It's high octane and high pressure, high fitness.
15:36Benzema.
15:41Well, both sides might have to settle for a draw here, although there's still a chance for one last fling.
15:52But Benzema does well there, alert.
15:58Mohamed Salah goes looking.
16:01You wonder if that's it now, but there may be one more opportunity, Peter, for a late, late steal here.
16:19He's made sure that that won't get through.
16:22Modric drives it forward.
16:2590 minutes up, and we will be back for extra time.
16:29Yeah, neither side has anything to show for some splendid effort, and they certainly aren't showing any signs of easing
16:35off, so we remain optimistic.
16:39So to clarify, extra time will follow.
16:43And we are already back underway.
16:49That's a good block, but at the expense of a corner.
16:55Lucas Masters hits it!
16:59A bit relief, it just needed better contact.
17:02Well, that's why we all say indecision is fatal.
17:07A corner-directed kick from the keeper, he's given it away.
17:11Has a point!
17:12Oh, yes!
17:14It's there!
17:15And surely that has won the day!
17:23A beautifully dispatched.
17:26There was no reaching that.
17:27Well, I think two keepers would have had a hard time keeping that one out, never mind one.
17:32It was real venom in the strike, and clear composure from the placement.
17:35Oh, my God!
17:36Oh, my God.
18:06Jordan Henderson, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Gomez, hoists it forward, Sergio Ramos gets into the right position to intercept,
18:26Mohamed Salah, it's a loose ball,
18:37Robertson, and it's Henderson, Mohamed Salah, Firmino, and it's played forward.
18:52Oh, that's not going to make it.
18:57Variety is the spice of footballing life, too.
19:00They need to alter their approach and start shifting this ball out wide.
19:05Oh, well intercepted, really alert to the danger.
19:16He's made sure that that won't get through.
19:20Van Dijk.
19:21Van Dijk goes looking.
19:25Well, the moans and groans from the stands now are very audible.
19:31It's Benzema!
19:33Oh, and that should have been, too.
19:35Oh, and a real chance to pile on the pressure, and he'll be desperate to get another.
19:44Gomez.
19:48Alexander-Arnold.
19:50And here's Roberto Firmino.
19:52Varane battles to win it back.
19:57Well, they're looking at the referee, but he's wave play on.
20:02That's the time, Richard's half-time.
20:06Well, there's plenty of potential for a final twist in this turn.
20:09I think there's bound to be some late drama in the final 15 minutes of this, I think.
20:18And we're off for the final time.
20:22This really has been thrilling.
20:24Both sides going at it.
20:26And now for the final act.
20:32Needless to say, he was expecting a better ball than that.
20:35Now it's Benzema.
20:38Jordan Henderson.
20:40Alexander-Arnold.
20:42Tries to get it forward quickly.
20:45Timely intervention.
20:53Fijnaldum.
20:56Played down the flank.
21:03Benzema.
21:10Sergio Ramos.
21:18Mohamed Salah.
21:25Tops it into the area.
21:31Lucas Vazquez.
21:33Gets the better of his man.
21:36Lucas Vazquez.
21:39He's had a shot.
21:42It's in.
21:44A two-goal cushion.
21:47And it's looking safe.
21:53Now deflection may or may not have made a difference.
21:56Little matter.
21:57It is his.
22:00A two-goal cushion.
22:03A two-goal cushion.
22:06A two-goal cushion.
22:16A two-goal cushion.
22:17A two-goal cushion.
22:22A two-goal cushion.
22:22A two-goal cushion.
22:24A two-goal cushion.
22:25A two-goal cushion.
22:26A two-goal cushion.
22:27A two-goal cushion.
22:29Madrid get themselves a two-goal cushion
22:34Robertson
22:36Wijnaldum
22:38Fabinho
22:40Well, it seems obvious that the plan is to try and get the passing game going again
22:45But not with that lack of quality
22:47Lucas Vazquez
22:49He gets past his man
22:51Lucas Vazquez massively
22:54And it's there
22:58And they are pulling clear here
23:05Looking back at that
23:06That's how you play on the counter
23:08Freaking decisive and ruthless with the finish
23:10I thought it was a stunning, stunning break away
23:15He's made it three
23:16Twice a day at the office for him
23:18That defence must be sick and decisive
23:20He's been persistent and ruthless all game
23:23He just hasn't stopped working
23:50Madrid take a three-goal lead
23:53And they are romping out of sight
23:55Well, they're very much the better team
23:57At the moment, Peter
23:58And no doubt we'll be looking to
24:00To cause even more damage here
24:05Forward it goes
24:08Wijnaldum
24:08And it's Salah
24:12There's a long ball
24:13Right through
24:14Benzema
24:16And that is the last effort of the game
24:19Madrid
24:20Very much the dominant
24:21That has beenлена
24:21Yeah that you
24:21Yeah
24:21Yeah
24:21But it's also
