05:33option to go back to your country of origin where did you came from and the other thing is that
05:39asylum system wasn't created for for seeking better life it was it was for the protection
05:47and if we are filling this basket with the with the another another reasons then we are in in
05:57trouble it's not sustainable but in finland at the moment that right to seek asylum is
06:02suspended has been i believe since 2023 if i'm not mistaken please do correct me
06:07um is that the new normal for finland now that you know people cannot come to your country and
06:12seek asylum that is not true people can come to our country and seek asylum but the the suspension
06:19of the right asylum in relation to what is happening with on the border with russia that is as you
06:25mentioned changing the paradigm what is happening now in our eastern border is that we have closed
06:32all all the border crossing points and we have made this border security law under the certain
06:42circumstances which are very high if we activate it then the border border guards have a right
06:50to prevent people to enter to to finnish territory or if they enter we will check if they are vulnerable
06:59or uh in in immediate uh life danger in that country where they enter to finland if not then we
07:07will uh
07:08return them back and in terms of the other threats coming from that border reports of military buildup um
07:16on the other side of the finnish russian border how concerned are you about that today and the threats
07:22to finnish security and stability well i think that uh that uh it's uh it seems like uh russian side
07:33is
07:34uh building uh on their side as long as they say stay on their side we are happy i want
07:40to come back
07:41to the eu's migration policy there seems to be a certain political current which finland probably
07:46would count itself part of this group of governments who really want to tighten the rules but there's a
07:52smaller group of countries maybe taking a drastically different position such as the spanish government
07:56recently regularizing uh half a million migrants in spain who are there irregularly what do you as
08:05the migration minister for finland make of those policies well uh i wouldn't ever success uh the the acts
08:16like that and the other thing is that uh when we are having uh the same area the schengen area
08:24the the
08:25team europe as as uh as people uh is talking about then i think there is high risk if uh
08:34if some
08:35countries is doing basically really opposite than the other other countries because uh now for example
08:45those people are um very easily to go to another countries so uh i think that um i think that
08:56uh we we
08:58need to all feel the responsibility of our our common area and it comes to migration as well
09:07the pact on migration which um should be implemented from june this year this was part of this team
09:15europe as part of this solidarity mechanism that they call it where there's an option for other
09:19member states to take in migrants that reach uh some of the member states under most pressure
09:24and not many countries have have picked up on this opportunity including finland and there are
09:30estimates that there might be as little as 10 000 relocations in europe so my question is is this
09:38pact really working is there solidarity well there is options how to how to show your solidarity
09:46and uh finland have choose uh by by helping with money but i don't think that uh european migration
09:54policies are resolved by solidarity i think we need to work on that way that uh we really
10:03uh decrease the numbers who is coming to europe and how we do this we do this in third countries
10:11and we
10:12we need to uh make more innovative solutions not to bring people in and then you know we are
10:20basically in the situation where nobody wants to relocate so this is this is not working in that way
10:28you talk about innovative solutions what are those in your view what is the eu not doing that it could
10:34be doing well i think that uh the most important thing is cut the smugglers uh money making machine
10:42but there's been talk about this for years yeah i know it's still a problem i know what needs to
10:46be
10:46done i think that uh most important thing is uh think how we prevent people to enter to the the
10:55uh europe by smugglers boat you do this by having presence on the other side of the sea and you
11:05you do this
11:06for example looking for the possibilities of uh safe uh safe ports that uh if somebody is rescued they are
11:17bringing back to third country not to europe so i think that we need to decrease at the numbers
11:24finally just to close off just for a clarification you mentioned the presence on the other side of
11:29the sea you said does that mean more presence for frontex more of a mandate for frontex so what would
11:34that exactly look like well actually at this moment uh frontex mandate is um re um rewrites uh so so
11:46there could be i think uh possibilities for that for example okay yeah and minister thank you so much
11:52for joining us on 12 minutes with thank you
