00:03Benvenuto nella ribellione, Wade.
00:13Come molti di voi sono venuto qui per evadere.
00:18Ma ho trovato qualcosa di molto più grande di me stesso.
00:22Siate disposti a combattere?
00:25Insieme salveremo Oasis.
00:30So, Steven Spielberg è uno dei ragazzi di cui la gente piace il cinema.
00:36E credo che sei familiarizzato con questo lavoro.
00:39Quindi sono sicuro che hai visto in Hook.
00:41Sì.
00:42In Hook, ha parlato di pensi felici.
00:44Voglio sapere, quale è il tuo pensi felici?
00:47Oh, i miei pensi felici.
01:21so I was just writing my first novel to see if I could do it and see what would happen.
01:27And what has happened is everything you could ever want to happen when you publish your first novel.
01:32It became a bestseller in hardcover and paperback and then it became a bestseller all around the world
01:37in like four dozen languages and fifty-some countries.
01:43But dwarfing all of that is getting to work with Steven Spielberg on the film Adaptation.
01:48I probably wouldn't have written a book if I hadn't grown up watching his movies
01:51and so getting to adapt my own story with one of the people who inspired it
01:57is just the best thing that's ever happened and I'm still riding high.
02:02I had the impression watching the movie that Spielberg made the main character, Parzival,
02:09look like a younger version of himself. Is it true? Am I wrong?
02:14Well, my wife thinks he looks like a younger version of me.
02:18Ty Sheridan is from Texas and we live in the same town, so I don't know.
02:23I mean Steven and I were both kind of geeky young boys with glasses,
02:27so maybe Wade is a combination of the two. I don't know.
02:31He never said anything to me consciously, but my wife thinks that he cast Ty because he had already met
02:38me
02:38and wanted someone who looked like a younger version of me, so I couldn't say.
02:42So between you and Spielberg?
02:44Maybe. But Ty, I don't know. Ty's pretty handsome to play me, so I don't know.
02:52It's fine. In the book and in the movie too, the main character, they can find the ex
02:58because they have a huge passion for pop culture. Do you think that in life, you're an example of it,
03:05having passion is something that can make the difference?
03:10In my experience, most definitely. I feel like, you know, I am a testament to what can happen
03:16if you love the things that you love very passionately and unabashedly and unironically and uncynically
03:23and celebrate the things that you love and don't worry whether anyone else shares your feelings.
03:29I feel like when I wrote Ready Player One, it was like lighting a bonfire or creating a searchlight
03:35that announced all the things that I love and how much I love them and asked the world,
03:39Don't you love this too? And somehow by doing that, I've managed to draw the very people who helped inspire
03:47me
03:47to want to work on this story and share the story with more people.
03:51So, you know, I feel very lucky and I feel like enthusiasm and passion is contagious,
03:59whereas cynicism and negativity are not.
04:03Okay. Thank you. Thank you so much.
04:05I love your book.
04:07Oh, thank you so much.
04:07Thank you so much.
