00:00Now, we've got to go here in a minute, but before we do, I do want to ask you something,
00:03and I know I mentioned backstage that I wanted to talk to you about this, and if you're okay talking
00:07about it, I wanted to ask you about some criticism that you got on Golden Globes night, because you were
00:13wearing a Time's Up pin in support of the Time's Up movement, which has been created by many powerful women
00:21in Hollywood to say that time is up for the abuse, misuse of women, both sexually and otherwise, not only
00:28in Hollywood, but around the country.
00:29They've established a fund, a legal defense fund, for women and men who are being abused in this way. You
00:35got criticized for wearing that. Do you know why, and do you have a response to anything you want to
00:44say about that criticism?
00:45Well, first I want to say I wore it because I do support it. I was, you know, look, I
00:51was so excited to win, but being in that room that night was incredible. I mean, it was powerful, and
00:57there were incredible voices, and I support it. I support change.
01:01I support 50-50 in 2020, which just means, you know, people that are underrepresented, women and people of color,
01:09people in the LGBT community, get, you know, positions, leadership positions that they fill all positions that they've been deprived
01:17of. I completely believe in that.
01:22That's why I wore it.
01:25That's why I wore it.
01:28There were some things on Twitter.
01:32Today.
01:33Yeah, I didn't, I didn't, I haven't read them. I've heard about them.
01:39Okay, first of all, I don't, I have no idea what I did to Ally Sheedy. I directed her in
01:43a play off Broadway.
01:45I had nothing but a great time with her, uh, uh, uh, total respect for her. I had no, I
01:52have no idea why she was upset. She took the tweet down. I don't, I don't know.
01:55Um, I, I can't speak for her. I don't know. Um, the others, look, in my life, I, I pride
02:06myself on taking responsibility for things that I've done.
02:09Um, I have to do that to maintain my, uh, well-being. Uh, I do it whenever I know that,
02:16that there's something wrong or needs to be changed. I make it a point to do it.
02:20Um, the things that I heard that were on Twitter, um, are not accurate. Um, but I completely support people
02:31coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn't have a voice for so long.
02:34So I don't wanna, I don't wanna, you know, shut them down in any way. It's, it's, I think a,
02:41a, a good thing and I support it.
02:43Um, well, is there something else, uh, that you think, some way to have this discussion that isn't in social
02:55media?
02:55Is there some way to have this conversation that piggybacks on what's happening in social media? Because when accusations happen,
03:01because for so long accusations were not believed.
03:04When accusations happen that in, in your case you say that this is not an accurate thing for me, do
03:09you have any idea of what the answer might be to come to some sense of what the truth is
03:12so there can be some sort of reconciliation between people who clearly have different views of things?
03:18I mean, it's a big question, but I don't know, I don't know how to leave, uh, or to further
03:25this discussion.
03:26I mean, like I said, if I, you know, I, I can't, I, I can't, the way I live my
03:33life, I can't live if, if there's restitution to be made, I will, I will make it.
03:38Um, so, if I've done something wrong, I, I will fix it. I, I have to. Um, I mean, I,
03:47I think that's how that, that works.
03:49Um, I, I don't know what else, I, I don't know what else to do. I mean, I'm, as far
03:54as the, the bigger issues, you know, how we do it, I, look, I, I really don't have the answers.
04:00And I think the point of this whole thing is that we listened. There were, you know, incredible people talking
04:05that night.
04:06They had, um, a lot to say and I'm here to listen and learn and change my perspective where, where
04:13it's off. And I'm completely willing and I want to.
04:17Well, thank you for taking a moment to talk about it right now. Congratulations again. It's an absolutely beautiful movie.
04:24Thank you.
