00:00We promised to show the press here today with us how to draw Goofy.
00:05And there's no one better to learn from than you.
00:07So I'm going to hand it over to you.
00:10Okay, great.
00:12So I hope everybody has their drawing tools ready.
00:19And here we go.
00:20I'm sharing my screen.
00:24And hopefully everybody can see this.
00:28So I'm going to take it slow.
00:30So everybody can draw along with me.
00:34And what you might, of course, realize is that most traditional cartoon characters are very based on circles.
00:43So I'm going to start with a circle here, which will eventually become Goofy's cranium.
00:50I'm going to make a shape.
00:52Oops, sorry about that.
00:53I'm going to make a shape here that's kind of like an elongated three on its side.
01:01See that?
01:02Okay.
01:05You can already tell where that's going.
01:07And above it, almost parallel to it, but tapering in, I'm going to draw Goofy's eyebrow ridges like so.
01:18Okay.
01:19Now I'm going to make a shape, kind of a balloony shape that looks a little bit like a duck
01:25-billed platypus.
01:27And I'm going to do it very lightly because now I'm going to put details on it.
01:33Okay.
01:33But that will, of course, be Goofy's muzzle.
01:35Now, on top of this shape, I'm going to make four curved lines.
01:42Okay.
01:44One, two, three, four.
01:49Okay.
01:50And those are the wrinkles in Goofy's nose.
01:54All right.
01:55This line, and I'm going to darken that, is going to become his smile.
02:00So I'll go ahead and darken that and give him a smile line here.
02:06Now, Goofy is a very constructive character, so not everything is contained easily.
02:11Some things stick out.
02:13So, for example, his cheek actually sticks out from his cranium line.
02:19And I'm going to put a little bit of his cheek on the other side as well.
02:25Now, going back to the front of this muzzle, I'm going to draw a bean shape.
02:33And the bean shape is Goofy's nose.
02:38See, he's starting to look like him already.
02:40Now, I'm going to give you a little bit of a secret here.
02:43This is the thing that everybody gets wrong.
02:45So I'm going to tell you how to make it right.
02:48Goofy does not have round eyes like that.
02:52Okay.
02:53What Goofy has is long pupils like this.
03:03And all of a sudden, hey, that's Goofy.
03:07Now, I'm going to divide this muzzle in the front and make a little puffed out shape here and here.
03:18Okay, with a line up here.
03:20This is kind of the center line and the line down here.
03:24And then three-dimensionally, I'm going to indicate that on the other side as well.
03:31Okay.
03:32And Goofy has three freckles on this side.
03:39Three freckles on this side.
03:42He's getting there.
03:44Now, I'm going to make kind of a curvy long U here.
03:52And then I'm going to make a shape for his lower lip, which is actually going to be almost parallel
04:00to me.
04:02So, inside Goofy's mouth goes his tongue.
04:07One short curved shape and one long curved shape.
04:12Now, Goofy's a bit of a hick.
04:15So he actually has a bit of a weak chin.
04:18It's just kind of tiny.
04:19And it comes out here.
04:24Now, Goofy, one of his big features is his front tee.
04:29So if you make a square here and a square here, that helps.
04:36But here's the kicker.
04:39Make them three-dimensionals.
04:41So you put another line here and another line there and another line here and another line there.
04:49Now, let's work on his hat.
04:51His hat, you can start kind of with a curved cylinder.
04:55And on the bottom, you can imagine it's kind of like the top of a pot pie, you know, with
05:05the crust going over.
05:06Over the edge.
05:09Then continuing this cylinder, you would put his hat band around here.
05:19And then you would go ahead and make what looks like the edge of a cartoon bone for the top
05:28of his hat there.
05:30Now, one thing that the 1936 Don Towsley model sheets pointed out with Goofy's three hairs in front is that
05:41the middle hair is actually the longest one between the other two.
05:45So I just went ahead and put in those three lines.
05:49And, of course, Goofy has his ears.
05:52You probably wouldn't see his ear on the other side.
05:54But imagine that his ear connects here towards the back of his head.
05:59You make an invisible line and continue the ear the rest of the way.
06:06And it comes out and kind of curves around there.
06:12That's one thing that's really fun about animating Goofy is those floppy ears.
06:17And final detail, two hairs on the end of his ear.
06:22And there we have our pal Goofy.
06:24Goofy.
