00:11In the beginning of the movie they say that Shug is a loose woman. I take it as a compliment.
00:17How important is being a loose woman in your opinion?
00:20It would be different for me because we're Southern, especially me and Danielle, we're Southern women.
00:29And so we were brought up a different way.
00:34And of course I'm a church girl, so most church girls can be a little loose, but we don't
00:39do it in a way where it is wide open.
00:42It's kind of behind closed doors.
00:47But I do feel like because we are speaking to a new generation, and we are living in
00:54a time now where loose has became loose, and that's okay.
00:59But my grandmother used to always tell me, leave a little bit for the imagination.
01:04So you can still be who you are, but it doesn't have to be so wide open that you're giving
01:10everything.
01:11And I think that's what Shug Avery brought to the town was talking.
01:17The women were like, lock up your men.
01:21Nobody was really used to that.
01:23And in the end, her character realizes she didn't have to go thus far, but I think she was just
01:30longing for her fatherly love, which a lot of women are dealing with.
01:34So because you don't have fatherly love, that man in your life, you tend to go astray and
01:40do certain things.
01:41And I think that this movie is trying to show them, show fathers, show up brothers,
01:46sisters, family members, even blended families.
01:50Because we were talking about that yesterday, that if we can just have what Harpo brought
01:56to Celie, what Harpo brought to Sofia, we would be better off and our loose could be behind
02:04closed doors.
02:05That's just my thing.
02:07I think Shug also, yeah, Shug, and it was beautiful to watch how Shug gives or what Celie learns
02:16from Shug.
02:17That's true.
02:17You know, how to, in whatever ways it sort of manifested, but just to watch, even during
02:25that time, feminism and the power that Shug brought and Celie observed, the power that
02:33Sofia brought that Harpo observed and Celie observed, you know, and loved.
02:38Yeah.
02:39You know, I think that was, it was new and a bit ahead of its time, you know, and it
02:46was
02:46beautiful.
02:47It was.
02:48And again, I don't want anybody to think, I think Shug brought it the way she brought
02:53it because of her past.
02:54Yes.
02:55She taught it to Celie and she brought it the way she brought it because of her past.
03:00and then there comes Sofia that brought it the way she brought it, that always gave Celie
03:08different looks on the ground.
03:10Take this.
03:10I'll take that.
03:11Cause I've always been like this, but now I can be like this, but that that's their,
03:17that's their journeys.
03:18That's their lives.
03:18And that's what they bring into Celie's lives and every woman needs to see a bit of everything.
03:24Daniel, Celie says to Sofia that she's jealous of her because she can do what she can.
03:32She fights back since you, you, you play her, how can we find the strength to fight back?
03:38Because it's not so easy even today.
03:41Yeah, it isn't that easy.
03:43I think it's, since we're talking about Shug, I think it's also what Shug talks about.
03:50if you walk past the color purple in a field and not notice it.
03:54Right.
03:55I think that's also there's moments and glimpses that, um, the spirit will kind of bring people
04:03or, you know, messages to you, um, that we have to start being in tune to and start listening
04:10to.
04:10And so I think that's kind of a way because sometimes you don't know how to do it yourself.
04:16So you have to find ways to connect to, um, those things that you admire in someone else
04:23or see in someone else that might have that power that you want and start finding a way
04:28to embody that for yourself.
04:31And it's little steps.
04:32You know what I mean?
04:32It's the, to me, it's also about the attempt of finding your joy and your happiness and
04:38finding your power.
04:39because at the end of the day, like the whole point of life is to have, you're going to go
04:45through trials and tribulations until we take our last breath.
04:49That's right.
04:49So as long as you put one foot in front of the other and continue to make the attempt,
04:54you're on the right path.
04:55That's right.
04:56Thank you so much.
04:57Thank you.
04:57You are all amazing.
04:58Thank you.
04:59Thank you.
04:59Bye.
05:00Bye.
05:01Bye.
05:01Bye.
05:02Bye.
05:03Bye.
05:04Bye.
05:04Bye.
05:05Bye.
05:06Bye.
05:06Bye.
