00:00uh but jose soriano is bursting onto the scene and he will get some hardware at the end of this
00:05month for that yeah i mean parker messick and almost any other month would be the pitcher of
00:10the month i'd imagine he's so close to a no hitter he's had so much success but i mean jose
00:14soriano
00:14is is just special right now and i mean it's one of the best stretches we've seen from a guy
00:19in a
00:20while and look obviously he's going to come down to earth a little bit but i think there's some
00:24really clear-cut adjustments from soriano based on like where he set up on the rubber um i think
00:30even just the pitch usage and the adjustments that he's made there there's even some mechanical
00:34adjustments that have helped him i think command the ball a little bit better as well i mean this
00:39is a clear shift from usage some mechanics set up and i think all of these things are are tying
00:45together to have a ton of success on the mound because there was never a question about arm talent
00:50so the nl is a much more fun conversation because again soriano is going to get this it's not even
00:55a
00:55conversation also shout out cam schlittler along with parker messick those guys have been nailed
01:00the nl is a fascinating race for a nl pitcher of the month paul skeins is kind of your classic
01:07shoe-in answer after the opening day blunder he made five starts this month he's 4-0 with a 0
01:12.95
01:13era opponents are hitting 106 against him i'm trying to find the batter's face number here
01:20so far for skeins in 28 the third innings 10 hits allowed three earned runs against him punched out
01:2729 and walked five again the whip is at 0.53 and the batting average against at 106 skeins is
01:36ridiculous
01:37um the other guys that jump out here two others that i wanted to mention justin robleski with the
01:44dodgers four stars he's 4-0 so far this month and i mentioned robleski a little bit uh before but
01:5026
01:50innings of two-run baseball punched out just 13 guys but opponents hitting a buck 72 against him
01:56and then chase dolander with the colorado rockies eight or uh 28 innings pardon in six appearances just
02:03one start but he's been working as a long man and dolander sporting a 129 era and opponents hitting
02:10184 against him in 28 innings this month i do just want to open this up to a robleski and
02:16dolander
02:16conversation right now because chase dolander and our great social team at just baseball put this out
02:22only qualified pitcher in baseball averaging over 10 and a half strikeouts per nine and a sub two and a
02:28half era on the year dolander in seven appearances the bulk of which coming in long relief sporting a
02:33225 era in 32 innings i think the audience is probably tired of me saying this but just having
02:39competence you know on the pitching side uh it goes a long way in colorado especially when you have a
02:46supremely talented arm uh and and you're throwing a guy into a situation where he has to throw in an
02:51environment that very few pitchers ever have to really worry about throwing in more than maybe once
02:55a year uh and i think we're seeing that exactly with dolander there was a clear plan
02:59malone weichmann and and and company there as they overhauled the entire uh pitching infrastructure
03:06in colorado among other things and then you've seen that forcing usage get cut down you've seen
03:11implementation of a better and more usable sinker and i think that's been the biggest part is the
03:17sinker is getting two extra inches of horizontal and he's throwing it at 13 more frequently that's
03:23helped him a lot more at altitude he's gained confidence in the change up and look the fourth
03:27team are still going to play it just can't be something that hitters are expecting 50 of the
03:31time especially at altitude because dolander's fastball is really good on the road it's the
03:36characteristics of it are set up to to be nerfed more than the average pitcher at altitude so he's
03:43able to navigate that now and i you can just imagine having a clear-cut plan instead of just going
03:49out there and saying i hope it works but you know it's probably not how much confidence that's
03:52giving chase dolander this year as well i can't imagine so it's a combination of a plan that actually
03:58works and then compound that with the confidence knowing that the plan will actually work and then
04:03even being able to sprinkle in you know like a cutter uh but not as much and then a sweeper
04:08and i
04:08think more confidence in the slider like there's more looks that he's providing as well and not just
04:13relying on the curveball which was his second most used pitch last year which is of course going to
04:17be affected at course so i think it's great i think that would show you when you actually think
04:21about how to help your best pitcher succeed
