00:00Fighting fraud in Washington, D.C., it's a little bit like fishing in a barrel with a nuclear weapon.
00:07It is the easiest thing to find.
00:10Every single day, my staff will bring me new reports of the ways that you're being defrauded.
00:15And there are all these...
00:16Look, there's a simple principle that I have, which is,
00:19if you are committing fraud against the American people, you ought to go to prison.
00:32If you are a public official and you're not fighting against fraud,
00:36you ought to have your money taken away because you should not be able to steal from all of you
00:41and give it to fraudsters.
00:47And the thing I've learned about fighting fraud is that it is the ultimate non-victimless crime.
00:53There are at least two victims every time a fraudster takes advantage of our public programs.
00:57Number one, you are the victims.
00:59When you pay your taxes, you ought to expect that it's going to go to the people that the law
01:05says it's going to go to.
01:06That's number one.
01:07But number two, when you pay into a program, let's say you pay your taxes
01:11and you know it's going to go to the food stamp program
01:13to ensure that low-income children actually have the ability to eat.
01:18You expect that money to go to a child to keep that child from being hungry.
01:23You do not expect it to go to a Somali fraudster
01:26because Governor Tim Walsh of Minnesota is not doing his job.
01:30But here's the thing.
01:39Every single day, we are finding fraudsters all over this country
01:43who are getting rich off of your generosity
01:46and are taking food from the mouths of poor children.
01:49And that is what must stop, and that is what we're stopping with the Fraud Task Force.
01:54Just last week, we actually prosecuted a fraudster
01:58who was stealing people's check information,
02:01stealing their identity, and writing bad checks.
02:03And that person was from Detroit.
02:05You know where we prosecuted them?
02:07Right here in the Western District of Missouri.
02:09And that person is going to prison.
02:16Let me tell you a story about a teacher,
02:18a teacher who went to an assisted living facility,
02:21a person who served children her entire life.
02:24She goes into an assisted living facility,
02:27and a fraudster manages to get a court to appoint him as her power of attorney.
02:33So this woman, over a lifetime of hard work and dedication,
02:37she saves $750,000.
02:40That's meant to go to her medical bills.
02:42That's meant to go to pay her assisted living bills.
02:45And this guy slowly, over time, steals from her,
02:49lives large off of her generosity,
02:52and she doesn't even realize it
02:54until one day she gets kicked out of her assisted living facility
02:58because a fraudster was paying himself instead of paying her bills.
03:02Ladies and gentlemen, this has happened thousands and thousands of times
03:07all over the United States of America.
03:09And for four years, you had a president and an administration
03:13who encouraged the fraudsters to take advantage of you.
03:16Well, now you've got a president and an administration
03:19who encouraged those fraudsters to go to prison,
03:22which is exactly where they belong.
