00:33Well, like probably most people, I woke up this morning and checked my phone and people
00:39had sent me the video of what occurred here late last night at Kinard Avenue off the Antrim
00:45Road in North Belfast and it was horrific to watch, it's almost difficult to comprehend
00:50the barbarity of this attack, that there was a man pinned on the ground, he seemed to be
00:55in a helpless state and yet he was continuing to be attacked with a knife by a man who had
01:01him pinned down and he was being attacked on his face and at his throat and slashes at
01:07his throat and you can hear other residents shouting and telling him to stop attacking
01:14him and I do want to commend those residents who intervened at risk to themselves and then
01:20the police officers who arrived and brought the attack to an end.
01:24So there's huge concern about that, this is not just a local story, this is a national
01:28story and no doubt will be covered internationally.
01:32Just the barbarity of that attack, a man helpless on the ground being attacked with a knife.
01:37So we need, I have spoken to the police, North Belfast area commander, he tells me that yes,
01:43one man has been arrested, one man is in hospital in a severe condition, I hope and pray that
01:49he will recover, that he tells me they are not seeking anyone else at this stage in connection
01:54with the attack.
01:55I asked where did these people live, do they know, so they told me that they do both live
02:00locally, they're local to the area, I don't know whether they knew each other beforehand,
02:05we just need, we need the police to determine what has occurred and to put that information
02:11into the public domain, there's huge public concern about what has occurred.
02:16So we need the facts, people will speculate, people will repeat things that are not based
02:22in fact, but we need fact based information.
