00:09It might be thousands of kilometres away from the host nations, but World Cup fever has taken over Linwood Senior
00:16High School.
00:21This specialist soccer school just south of Perth celebrating the spirit of the global game.
00:26I know everyone has exams, so it's just been a good opportunity, especially with the actual World Cup happening as
00:33well.
00:33I think having it at the school has just been really good because it's something everyone likes and everyone can
00:37watch and enjoy.
00:38The students proud to compete in games they helped organise.
00:42We're just glad to have the school to absolutely host it and us to participate as well to make it
00:46feel like we're also playing in the World Cup, which is a great experience, like very excited.
00:50Have you ever seen another school doing this, how supporting they are and how many people are showing up to
00:55come watch the games?
00:56More than 100 different nationalities are represented in the school, with students forming their own teams.
01:02They're absolutely soccer mad, so they're all watching the game in their own time.
01:06This has just been a great way to incorporate it into school and into a little bit of learning.
01:09The school's soccer academy has run for more than two decades, with students here receiving specialised coaching from teachers with
01:17international football accreditations.
01:20Academy coordinator Anne Gurley has coached national teams in Northern Ireland, now sharing her knowledge with the students.
01:27It was a smaller sport but has now, with obviously the Matildas and the growth of the game in Australia,
01:35has really given the opportunity for young girls to come and play.
01:39It's good seeing people that you look up to achieve that, because you're like, oh well that could be me
01:43soon.
