00:00Hi, how are you?
00:01Hi.
00:02Fine, thanks. And you?
00:03We're in a truthful mood.
00:06Yeah, we're going to be completely honest.
00:08I'm Regretia, nice to meet you.
00:09My first question is for you, Mr. Ford.
00:13Maybe the most evil villain, besides our inner conflict, is the passing of time.
00:20I don't believe that time has not defeated you or Indiana Jones.
00:25This saga shows us that heroes don't have to be young forever.
00:31What do you think about it?
00:32I think you're a genius.
00:34You're the first one that said that.
00:36You're right.
00:37The character, we've spent four films admiring the character and enjoying the character's company.
00:45Now we're going to see him with a little bit more distance at first,
00:50because we're going to see him not as the young, youthful, dashingly handsome man that he used to be.
01:00Now he's a dashingly handsome old man.
01:03And you wonder where we go with this.
01:08Because the beginning of the film starts in 1944, and because with process, we can talk about the process that
01:18made me 40 years old,
01:20but everyone will know about that by the time we get there.
01:23But what happens after that is we cut to 1969, when the world's no longer black and white anymore, but
01:30all shades of gray.
01:31He's teaching, you know, archaeology to students who could give a rat's ass about the past.
01:40They don't, that means nothing to them.
01:42They worry about men are on the moon, and there's rock and roll in the streets, and there's, you know,
01:47it's a jazzy time in America.
01:49And this guy has lost his mojo.
01:54We find him in 1969, he's waking up in a tenement, New York tenement apartment in a lazy boy chair
02:01in his underwear with an empty glass in his hand.
02:08Pissed off because the neighbors are playing live rock and roll music.
02:12What a wonderful beginning.
02:15What a wonderful place to meet your hero.
02:18To see him without his super suit on.
02:21You know, to see him bereft of his youth and with a lot of problems to solve.
02:28And then along comes the adventure and...
02:31The biggest problem.
02:32Well, it looks like an adventure, but it's a problem.
02:36But we're going to face age.
02:38We're going to face the issues of age.
02:41We're going to have fun with it, but not by poking fun at old people.
02:47We're going to see the reality of it.
02:50But we're going to see also the joy of it.
02:54The wisdom that comes to a character.
02:58The honesty that comes to a character when he's facing the end of his opportunity.
03:07So you see him knit together his family again.
03:10It's a beautiful emotional undercurrent in this movie.
03:14I think we've done it in other films.
03:16They've had emotional context.
03:18But this one is because it's the last one.
03:21Really kind of rounds out the story, I think.
03:25Now a question for you, Phoebe.
03:27Elena is not a female version of Indiana Jones.
03:31And I love this aspect so much.
03:34She has her narrative.
03:36How necessary is it to see roles like Elena on the B screen?
03:41And what inspiration can Elena be for audience?
03:47Well, if she inspires everyone to steal things, lie, just chase money, piss off your godfather,
03:57then I think there'd probably be a lot more godfathers having a lot more adventures.
04:02I think she's a fascinating character and an important character because you don't know if she's good or if she's
04:10bad.
04:10You don't know if her heart is broken or if it's bursting.
04:15You don't know enough about her because she's enigmatic and she's mysterious, but she goes for what she wants.
04:22And seeing a character, particularly a female character, just go for what she wants,
04:25doesn't give a fuck what anyone else thinks of her or what she's doing,
04:30and she makes the friends she needs to be friends with and she uses the opportunities
04:34and sometimes she uses people as opportunities and that's inspiring.
04:38So whether or not you actually agree with her moral leaning,
04:44the fact that she's just going for it is inspiring and she'll fight.
04:49She's a fighter. I love that about her.
04:51I think all of that is true, but I think also that she changes in the context of the film.
04:59that you can see that the events that we're watching are making changes in her moral compass.
05:13Maybe a few degrees this way or that way.
05:18Yeah, and that's why it's a good part is that all the best parts go on a proper journey,
05:23but she has a secret at the beginning and the secret is that she is heartbroken
05:26and she just seems like she's incredibly strong at the beginning.
05:30And I think it's really important to show characters who,
05:32any character that claims that they are impenetrably strong are probably the most vulnerable.
05:37and I love that that is revealed about her throughout.
05:41Mr. Ford and Phoebe, thank you for your time.
05:44It was a pleasure and honor talking to you.
05:47Thank you very much.
05:48Thank you for those great questions.
05:50Thank you.
05:51Thank you. Bye. Ciao.
05:53Bye.
05:53Bye.
05:54Bye.
05:55Bye.
05:56Bye.
05:56Bye.
05:56Bye.
05:56Bye.
05:57Bye.
05:57Bye.
05:57Bye.
05:57Bye.
