00:00I think what President Trump is doing is bad not just for the world but for the U.S.
00:05In other words, what it does is create a weaponization of trade without promising anything positive in return.
00:13And this is a moment where other countries have to stand up to the bullying
00:17and say that we can actually develop a cooperative agenda for the rest of the world.
00:21Europe has an absolutely critical role to play.
00:24It is crucial for the European Union to say we will not succumb to bullying by one major power
00:31and to work with other countries towards cooperative solutions.
00:35There are proposals on the table on tax cooperation, on a whole range of other issues, on climate.
00:42And we should not let a crazy regime in the U.S. derail what should be a human global agenda.
00:49I think that unfortunately very few people in Europe realize the extent of the problems
00:56and difficulties faced in the developing world because European media does not cover it enough.
01:01We hear only of catastrophes.
01:03We don't know of the growing number of hungry people,
01:06the growing number of people who are denied basic health and education
01:09because they are repaying debt services.
01:13and we don't know about the extreme inequality which is actually threatening lives in many parts of the world.
01:20What do you think about U.S. aid?
01:23Do you think that what has been happening with the freezing of funds
01:27is somehow significant of the challenges that we face?
01:30I think the fact that the U.S. could just immediately stop,
01:35including immediate life-saving treatments that were going to people,
01:38is a sign of the growing callousness of the U.S.
01:42But it has been followed by the stopping of aid by many European countries as well, quietly.
01:47So we have to realize that we are all on this planet together.
01:52And if you do this kind of thing, if you break this kind of trust globally,
01:56it will be very hard to repair in future.
