00:00I want to explore the question of whether it's possible for someone to have a good life,
00:04a fulfilling life, if they just take care of their responsibilities and don't really have
00:10any passions, dreams, or goals that are more admirable than those responsibilities. Because
00:15I think there is an idea in our culture that if you don't have these sorts of things, then
00:22your life has some kind of deficiency to it. This question came up because I was reading
00:27about people who were discussing their regrets at the end of their lives. And so many people
00:32mentioned not following their dreams, not following their passions, not doing the thing that they
00:37always wanted to do. And it got me thinking, well, how many people are living their dreams
00:42right now? How many people actually get to follow their dreams and their passions throughout
00:47their entire life? Actually, probably quite a lot. But my point is not that other people
00:53should go and chase their dreams. My point is that we should look at what people's regrets
00:58are in order to consider what kind of life we want for ourselves. Because the fact of
01:04the matter is that most people at the end of their life aren't thinking, man, I wish I
01:10had spent less time with my family and friends. I wish I had focused more on my career and less
01:16on the people around me. I wish I had traveled less and experienced less. Most people at the
01:22end of their life aren't thinking those things. They're thinking about the relationships they've
01:28forged and the experiences they've had. And yet, for some reason, it seems like our culture
01:34thinks that that's not enough. And so I want to explore that. Is it possible to have a fulfilling
01:40life if you don't have any passions? If you don't have any dreams or goals that are more important
01:45than taking care of your responsibilities? And it's going to sound funny because the answer
01:51is obviously yes.
