00:05We reported extensively on this story and brought to you the disturbing question of fake oxytocin.
00:12Remember in those stories we pointed out that oxytocin injection, another drug,
00:17which is oxytocin by the way, is a drug that is given to sort of stop the bleeding at the
00:22time of a cesarean,
00:23you know, operation that takes place.
00:27They had found water in it.
00:28Then an AIMS team had gone in to sort of review the entire situation
00:33and what they have found is that it was not just oxytocin that was fake.
00:37Another drug has failed quality test.
00:40This is Dino-Prostone gel, a medicine routinely used to induce labor during childbirth.
00:47That has been declared substandard by the Rajasthan Drug Department.
00:51Investigators say that the gel contained only 50% of the prescribed active ingredient
00:56and also failed the mandatory weight uniformity test, meaning the batch should not meet two critical quality standards.
01:04Now, what makes the findings even more serious is that this wasn't a privately sourced medicine.
01:09The drug was supplied through the Rajasthan government's procurement system and had reached the new medical college hospital in Kota,
01:17where the maternal deaths were under investigation.
01:20The government has since frozen the entire batch in Kota, blocked its supply across Rajasthan
01:26and directed hospitals not to use the medicine while the drug department carries out a detailed investigation.
01:33Now, remember, this is the second drug to fail quality test in Kota Probe after oxytocin.
01:39Notably, like I told you, AIMS team had recommended testing multiple other medicines as well used during the treatment
01:45and the latest report has intensified concerns over the quality of drugs supplied to government hospitals.
01:51The questions are also now becoming impossible to ignore.
01:55How did a substandard labor-inducing drug enter the government supply chain?
01:59Were pregnant women administered these medicines at failed quality standards?
02:04How many hospitals received the affected batch?
02:06And are more government-supplied drugs under scrutiny?
02:10And above all, who will be held accountable?
02:14If poor quality medicines put lives at risk?
