00:02We know our solar system is special, what with our habitable planet and so many of them circling our central
00:08star.
00:08However, researchers have now spotted a peculiar star system only 100 light-years away, called HD 110067, and it has
00:16six planets.
00:17A space oddity, indeed.
00:19The system lies in the constellation Coma Berenices, and while it has nearly as many planets as ours, it's wildly
00:25different in other ways.
00:26For instance, the first planet discovered in the system orbits its host star every 5.64 days, likely pointing to
00:32both an extremely fast pace and close proximity to the star.
00:35The next one orbits in just 13.67 days, and the next in around 20 days, meaning all of them
00:41are likely white-hot as they rip around the central star.
00:44What's more, the researchers say that identifying and figuring out the rotational periods of these initial planets allowed them to
00:49extrapolate data to locate the other three in the system,
00:52using what they call resonance, or how planets naturally occur around stars.
00:56However, that, in and of itself, is a rarity, as most star systems have had a chaotic encounter of some
01:01kind,
01:01meaning their system's resonance has been thrown off, and this identification system wouldn't have worked.
01:06The researchers say that likely only around 1% of star systems maintain their resonance,
01:11with the researchers saying about it, quote,
01:12that's why HD 110067 is special, and invites further study.
01:17It shows us the pristine configuration of a planetary system that has survived untouched.
