00:09The court awarded Ilham Madani Sendirian Burhat Program Director Hassan Azhari Hashim
00:15RM40,000 in statutory and additional damages and RM25,000 in legal costs.
00:21The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by Judicial Commissioner Edwin Paramjoti Michael Muniandi.
00:27In the suit, Hassan claimed he was the rightful copyright owner of a working paper proposing
00:33the Madani number plate series. He said he'd submit to his proposal to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim
00:39in February 2023. However, two months later, JPJ informed him that it did not intend to proceed
00:46with the series as proposed. Hassan later claimed JPJ issued a public notice for the Madani series
00:53in October 2024, prompting him to sue over alleged copyright infringement.
00:58The JPJ Director General has one month from the judgment date to file an appeal.
