00:00Welcome to a top-secret location in Italy where I'm about to become one of the
00:04first people in the world to see a new Lamborghini V12 model before its global
00:09reveal.
00:12This is the Lamborghini Phenomeno Roadster, the final few-off Lamborghini
00:18and it is the most powerful open-top model that the brand has ever made. And I
00:23know that might sound like one of those ESPN statistics that they make up for
00:27LeBron James when he has a big performance but this car has more power
00:31than a Ferrari 849 Testarossa Spyder and that's a real stat to me. Today we're
00:36going to take a look around the exterior of the car and talk a little bit of
00:40aerodynamics with the design director of Lamborghini and they're going to talk
00:44about the powertrain and the performance that this thing has as the most powerful
00:48open-top model they've ever made. Finally we'll take a look at the interior I'll
00:52give you my thoughts about the inside where there's an alien hiding and then
00:56I'll give you my final thoughts. So let's get into it. And in case you're
00:59wondering, no we're not going to drive it in this video, they're only making 15 of
01:03these things and you could have to have a few million in your back pocket to get
01:08your hands on one so can you really blame them? To understand where the
01:11phenomenon fits you have to look back at the lineage of Lamborghini's FU-OFF
01:14program. This low-volume series essentially serves as a platform for the
01:18brand to introduce new technology and design directions well ahead of
01:21mainstream production. Before this we had the new Countach which took modern V12
01:25hybrid hardware and wrapped it in a modern interpretation of the brand's
01:28iconic wedge-shaped silhouette. Before that the Cyan served as the first step
01:32into hybridization and it utilized a super-compacitor instead of a
01:36conventional battery pack while also debuting the Y-shaped lighting signatures
01:40that now define the production Revolta. Further back is the Sesto Elemento which
01:45was a track-only model focused entirely on advanced carbon fiber
01:48construction that dropped the vehicle's total weight below a thousand kilograms. Then
01:53you have the Centinaria which was built to celebrate founder Ferruccio's 100th
01:56birthday while quietly introducing rear wheel steering to the platform. And of
02:01course the Veneno which pushed extreme aerodynamics to the absolute limit for a
02:04street-legal vehicle. The entire lineage started back in 2007 with the Reventon.
02:10Its spider-jet inspired design language laid the visual blueprint for the entire
02:13generation of V12 supercars that followed it. Each of these vehicles has played a
02:20specific role in shaping the modern Lamborghini lineup which brings us
02:23directly back to this latest chapter. And who better to talk about the design
02:27of this car than the person that is responsible for it, the design director
02:31at Lamborghini. Ben, how are you going mate? I'm very good to see you. Yeah, it's been a while.
02:36Talk to me about this car. I think, can we start at the front though because it is
02:39very aggressive to me. Lamborghini, yeah. So, I mean first of all, this car is for us a celebration.
02:46You know, we are in a design team of very, let's say, excited designers and, you know, we are always
02:53aiming for the best design. So, this is our design where we are celebrating the 20 years of Centro Stile
02:58design center. Of course, you know, Lamborghini is always starting like a shark. Yeah, so you're from
03:04Australia, you know, the shark knows. And so, the car is always wearing the Lamborghini logo very
03:10proudly. And from this, we are then developing all the lines. So, there's a lot of acceleration
03:16in a very elegant way. We have integrated S-ducts and then really interesting channels. And, you know,
03:22this time the Y-shape is something that we always implement, but in a smaller way because they look
03:26like the horn of a fighting bull. Is it taking inspiration from anything or is it living on its own?
03:32We try always something unexpected. For me, always the key is our design DNA. A Lamborghini
03:38should have this Countach-inspired silhouette line. Okay, now here it's open, so it's cut it off,
03:44but we will talk about this. But then also the cabin, you know, is always taking something of the
03:49Countach, so there's a strong inclination of the side windows. But then, for all the lines, for all the
03:54shapes, we try always something unexpected. Because, you know, for me it's like music, it's like a rhythm,
04:00so every Lamborghini should have his own rhythm. The artist is Lamborghini, but the beat is always
04:07with a new interpretation. Amazing. Down the side of the car. It's amazing that this side silhouette
04:14is so strong and so aggressive. I guess it is so Lamborghini, right? Yes. I mean, the car is long,
04:20but in the same moment also compact. So when we stand here, you can see it's an athlete. We have
04:26really nice front fender lines, but the surfacing is a little bit, let's say, more human. So it feels
04:34alive. Also supported by the color. The main theme is we have this cutting line that is diving down and
04:43we integrate here kind of a speedy Naka air intake. So the Naka is some element from the Countach.
04:51And we have another speedy idea, but I will talk you through this as well. But this is the main
04:56theme of the bodies. And then the roof or the lack of roof. Yes. Talk to me about this. There's
05:01some
05:02beautiful lines in here too. And yeah, that's the fun that you can have with such a car. So we
05:06thought, first of all, we cut the roof, we create the car, you know, feel like a pilot, fun to
05:12drive.
05:13Of course, something where you can really, yeah, you can experience this monster engine and this
05:19fantastic powertrain. You know, the pilot or whoever is owning and driving this car,
05:26he is really in the center of attention. The center of the design gravity is always our powertrain.
05:31So we make the engine visible. I took a little bit of inspiration on the volcano Etna in Sicily
05:38because I was walking there and there are some openings and I thought this could give a little
05:43bit of inspiration here. We took this air intake of the coupe in the lower position. So, but for us,
05:49it's always a pleasure like in a motorcycle or, you know, like to show always the engine.
05:54That's beautiful. And then if we come around to the back, it's a long tail.
05:58Yes, exactly. So also, this is celebrating shape. It is celebrating also old race cars.
06:05So I wanted also that, you know, everyone that looks at the car has, you know, certain fantasies
06:10or inspirations. So for us, it's also a key signature, the exposed rear tire. Now, if you picture
06:17a Countach, you know, there was always a tire and the body.
06:20Yeah. So, and for me, this is the inspiration. So we showed the tire. This is giving a fantastic
06:27stance. When you see the rear, then the Y shape is really a very strong and recognizable element.
06:34So in Lamborghini, we are not going for a light stripes or, you know, this type of design. We,
06:39we do this and then we have the spectacular exhaust pipe.
06:42Yeah. It's going to be one of the biggest. It's amazing. You want to see a secret?
06:48Yeah. I mean, for me, uh, when you, when you stand right in the middle and you look into the
06:54interior
06:54and you know, it looks a bit like an airplane or, you know, the, the massive shoulders, it looks a
07:00bit
07:00like a spaceship. So inside there can only be an alien. And you know, when you see the center console,
07:05the Y shape, but the way it looks at you, I have this inspiration of an, of an alien.
07:10It does. That's amazing. What have you, what have you from the back? I have to say, it's
07:14absolutely phenomenal. It has such presence to it. Um, but it's also just, it lends itself to those
07:19functional aspects too. And talk to me about the wheel design, because it's, we saw it on the
07:27Phenomeno Coupe, but here, I think there's a few little things that have been done to it.
07:32Yeah. I mean, we play it first of all with the, you know, the color separation, but you know,
07:36I talked about the speedy Naka and here is the speedy hexagon. Yeah. So, so it's an hexagon,
07:42but it's not like a 100% in hexagon, but we made it like an acceleration. So first of all,
07:48it,
07:48it's emphasizing the diameter of the wheel. It's a monologue wheel. It's a forged wheel,
07:54but then having the spokes painted in black and then, you know, diamond cutting the, the speedy
08:00hexagon give this massive effect of diameter. So for us, it's always important that our cars have
08:06a stance, you know, the ratio of body to the, to the tire. And, uh, you know, this wheel is
08:11emphasizing exactly this idea. And one final question for you. Was there a challenge in
08:17designing a car like this? So you guys just having a lot of fun. We have always fun, but of
08:22course,
08:23there's a challenge, you know, in the end of the day, we have, of course, a professional job to do.
08:27Uh, Lamborghini is always, uh, you know, the perfect mix of design and performance and for sure,
08:33you know, aerodynamical requirements. Um, then I don't know, in general, the V12 is an athlete
08:39and it needs to work. It has a lot of heat and it needs to breathe. So there's a lot
08:44of, uh,
08:45uh, thermal, uh, thermal, thermal, um, things to be considered aerodynamical aspects and so on.
08:51But, uh, we always take this with pleasure. We don't fight the engineer. They are our friends,
08:56because I'm, I believe that together we are the winning team because then we can create something
09:01that is as stunning looking as the phenomenal roadster. Absolutely. Now you have to get out
09:05of here and I have to show these guys the rest of the car, including the powertrain. So thank you
09:09so
09:09much. Thank you very much. It's been amazing. Enjoy the car. Thank you. Bye. Bye. Ciao.
09:13Behind the cabin here is the Lamborghini V12 engine. It's supplemented by a trio of electric motors,
09:20but they've turned up the power on the Ruvuelto because the one thing that I was itching for when
09:25I drove that car was even more power. But if you can have it, why not? Together,
09:30the combustion engine and the electric drive unit produce 1080 CV, which is 1065 horsepower.
09:38That'll accelerate you from zero to a hundred kilometers an hour in 2.4 seconds,
09:43or even more impressively to me, zero to 200 kilometers an hour in 6.8. If you keep your
09:48foot pinned, it'll top 340 kilometers an hour. Of course, you need great brakes to stop a missile
09:55like this. And alongside the Phenomeno Coupe, this car debuts the new CCMR carbon ceramic brakes.
10:02It's the type of technology that we might see trickle down to other cars in the future,
10:07potentially a Ruvuelto SV, SVJ, cars like that. A beautiful wheel design that Mita talked about
10:14earlier. And then we've got a staggered set of wheels, a 21 in the front and a 22 in the
10:19rear,
10:19and they're wrapped in a very specific Bridgestone type. Now we can't jump inside this car because it
10:24is a bit of a rolling concept, but you might recognize this interior from that new Ruvuelto. And
10:30to me, that's a very good thing. Just from here, it looks as spacious as that car is,
10:35it's easy to daily drive and it's packed with technology and composite materials. You've got
10:40plenty of dynamic air and carbon fiber, but also three screens. They're not huge screens,
10:45they don't dominate the cabin, but they just sort of fit there. It's a commanding driving position
10:49with an alien as well. Making 15 of these things and they're priced at a few million dollars. So
10:55it's unlikely that I'll ever see this car ever again, but boy has it left a lasting impression just
11:01sitting here in the studio. It holds the crown as the most powerful open top car that Lamborghini
11:06has ever made. But I want you guys to let me know what you think about it down in the
11:11comments. Is
11:12this the ultimate V12 Roadster? While you're there, hit the subscribe button and turn the bell
11:17notification on as well. So you don't miss out on any hypercar videos like this in the future.
11:22Thanks for watching. Okay, I'm happy with that.
