The 2025 Tesla Model Y has arrived with a striking new design and significant upgrades. Drawing inspiration from the Cybertruck, it features a 1.6-metre full-width light bar—the largest in the industry—and a refreshed interior akin to the latest Model 3. Enhancements include ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, a 15.4-inch front touchscreen, and an 8-inch rear display. Tesla has also reintroduced the traditional indicator stalk in response to customer feedback.

00:00This is the brand new 2025 Tesla Model Y facelift.
00:04It's the car that's gonna save Tesla, or so they hope.
00:07In this video, I'm gonna show you the exterior,
00:10the interior, and then we're gonna take it for a drive.
00:12Let's get into it.
00:25And before we get into the full video,
00:27I have to say that it's not sponsored by Elon Musk,
00:29and we're not gonna show Tesla this video
00:31before we put it out.
00:32They've kindly provided us with this car
00:34because it is one of the top selling cars in Australia
00:37and the top selling EV.
00:38And when it gets a facelift, we have to cover it.
00:41So while we're in the back,
00:43let's talk about the new design of the new Model Y.
00:46You've got this new rear end,
00:48which I quite like the look of.
00:49The tail lights are very Model 3,
00:50but there's this red glowing light bar at the back
00:54that mimics the one at the front,
00:55which I'm about to show you.
00:56Tesla badging back here.
00:58We've got the Glacier color.
00:59It's also a brand new car.
01:00I really like the look of this color.
01:02Diffuser down the back,
01:03flat underside to help with range.
01:05And let's have a look down the side.
01:11So nothing's really changed down the side of the car.
01:13It still has that sort of egg shape to it.
01:16Don't particularly love the side profile of the Model Y,
01:18never have, but nonetheless, it's the same.
01:20Come around the front.
01:23New, Cybertruck-like light bar design.
01:26So you've got this light bar,
01:28which at night runs all the way across the front of the car.
01:31And during the day, it's just a little bit harder to see.
01:33The headlights are actually now down here
01:35in the lower portion of the bumper.
01:37I think it looks quite good.
01:37You guys let me know what you think of the new design of this Model Y.
01:40And has it been updated to your taste and your liking?
01:43I quite like it.
01:44It's modern, it's Cybertruck-y, and it's very angular
01:47and quite masculine, actually, I think, too.
01:50And being an EV, there's no engine up the front,
01:52so there's heaps of space for a front trunk, right?
01:55Yes.
01:56The Tesla Model Y has one of the biggest in the industry at 117 litres.
02:01It's not going to be enough for a cabin suitcase,
02:03but if you've got a giant duffel bag or camera bag,
02:08it's heaps of space.
02:09You can even fit more stuff in there.
02:12Very happy with that.
02:17And while we're on the topic of space,
02:19let's talk about the boot space.
02:21Because the Model Y, powered tailgate,
02:23has always had one of the largest boots
02:25in this sort of medium SUV category,
02:28in the electric vehicle category, too.
02:29You've got this quite frustrating to use load cover.
02:33I'm not going to lie.
02:34This thing does drive me insane.
02:35I have no idea how to use it.
02:36But 854 litres of space back here,
02:39including this giant pit,
02:41which I think I could almost disappear into.
02:45That's big.
02:47It's actually kind of comfortable back here.
02:51So now we're inside the new Tesla Model Y,
02:53and they had to absolutely nail this interior
02:56because there is a lot riding on this car.
02:59I'm going to get serious.
03:00I'm going to take my sunglasses off.
03:02They've done it.
03:03Honestly, the interior of the car is very, very good.
03:07This is pretty much a brand new car.
03:09It has something like 12 kilometres on it,
03:11so it does look brand new.
03:12But it's premium.
03:15For one, the seats.
03:16You could mistake it for leather.
03:18It's as good as any synthetic leather in any car
03:20that's less than, say, 120,000 Australian dollars.
03:22So really impressive.
03:24Everywhere you touch soft touch materials,
03:26including all the way up here on the upper dashboard,
03:29which continues that leather theme,
03:30stitching everywhere,
03:31which elevates the experience inside the cabinet.
03:34I've even got rid of some of these rattles,
03:36which drove me insane in the previous model car.
03:39Very impressive.
03:40I'm going to jump to the handheld camera
03:42and show it to you in more detail.
03:43You've got the same sort of wireless phone charging
03:46as before, the same general storage area here,
03:50which is extremely deep.
03:52I mean, look, it almost swallows my entire arm.
03:54Two cup holders, which are American size
03:56and have little rubber grommets there
03:59to stop your drink bottles from moving around.
04:01Even these are damp and line up perfectly.
04:04In the past, I've sort of complained
04:05that these rattle around a little bit.
04:07There's a little bit of play in that one,
04:08but they're not going to make any sound.
04:10Centre console storage, once again, huge.
04:13It goes all the way down here.
04:15If you want more storage, go buy a truck or something.
04:18I can't really get over the quality
04:21of the materials in this cabinet,
04:22even down to the door handle here,
04:25where it's not real leather.
04:26It's the same one that's found on the seats
04:28and on the upper trim of the dashboard,
04:30but it just feels very high quality.
04:32And this material here is very Polestar
04:35to Polestar in general, I would say.
04:38I'm not sure if it's recycled,
04:39but once again, it's soft.
04:41Everything is padded.
04:42Up here where your arm rests, padded too.
04:45It's really, really comfortable.
04:46It's at the right height.
04:47You've got that LED light bar running all the way down here
04:50from the door.
04:51We'll talk about the touch screen in a second.
04:53And they've actually fixed this sort of leather
04:56that was used on the steering wheels of previous Model 3s
04:59and Model Ys.
05:00They've updated for the Model 3.
05:01And we see similar material here.
05:03This is a different type of material here,
05:06but it's sort of similar to what's been used on the seats.
05:08But I quite like the scripted Tesla logo here.
05:11Steering wheel will look very familiar to those
05:13that have driven the new Model 3,
05:15except for one thing, no silly steering wheel indicators.
05:19We've got a precision engineered indicator stock,
05:24which I have to say does actually sound quite good.
05:31I'm quite used to driving Teslas around.
05:33And I think if you were an owner,
05:34you'd get used to a lot of things, but there are some slight things
05:37which I can't really get around.
05:39And the first one is this glove box,
05:42which can only be opened through the touch screen.
05:45But before you jump on your high horse and say,
05:47this is the dumbest thing in the world,
05:48it is one of the nicest glove boxes that I've used.
05:51Hit that button.
05:52It's damped for one,
05:53which I can't say for even cars like the new Aston Martin Vantage,
05:57but it's also magnetized.
06:00I can't think of another glove box that I've ever used
06:02that's magnetized, and I'm kind of here for it.
06:05And check out the reversing camera.
06:07So many different angles.
06:09It's got the sensors going.
06:10It's got the lines on the screen.
06:12I'm definitely not going to hit these people behind me.
06:17Don't love the drive selector too much,
06:23but you take the good with the bad.
06:26So if you spend any time in new Model 3 or Teslas in general,
06:30you'll notice this giant tablet touchscreen,
06:32which has kind of been adopted by almost every single car
06:35in the industry at this point, at least those coming out of China,
06:39which have become prevalent in Australia.
06:40There are so many functions in this,
06:42I would have to dedicate an entire video to it.
06:45But what you basically want to know about is how snappy is this thing
06:47and what does it actually do?
06:49So you can control a lot of the car here on the front sort of home screen,
06:54and then you jump into the menus, which are here.
06:56You've got the rear screen, navigation camera, dash cam, energy meter,
07:00phone, calendar, message to zoom, all these things.
07:03But the one that I love the most is the arcade.
07:07So you actually use the car's controls for this.
07:11So you use the steering wheel, the accelerator and the brake,
07:14which is pretty insane.
07:15And if it doesn't work, I'm going to crash straight into that concrete barrier.
07:18So let's see how it goes.
07:20I'll turn off the sound.
07:21Hopefully don't get copyrighted.
07:25I want Model Y.
07:26Does it have the new Model Y?
07:29No.
07:30All right, we'll use old Model Y.
07:32Let's go ludicrous.
07:34So you can see I am controlling the car and I suck at this because
07:39it's been a while since I've played this.
07:41Don't hate me.
07:42Don't hate the player, hate the game.
07:44But it's just not the best way to spend your time
07:48while you're charging the car.
07:51It's weird because it's actually like steering wheel feedback given to me.
07:56Like it's as if I'm on the road.
07:57Like I can feel sort of weight through the steering wheel.
08:01Oh my gosh.
08:02Yeah, I died.
08:04This is hilarious.
08:05And when I'm on a brake, I can use the actual car.
08:08But oh my God, that shows a light too.
08:11Oh, this is so funny.
08:12Oh, I think I just, who knows what happened there.
08:15Oh, and while we're looking at the arcade,
08:17there's one more app that I absolutely love, which is the toy box.
08:21Yes, you can play fart sounds inside the vehicle
08:27and outside the vehicle too.
08:29But I want to go over here to the boom box because this is hilarious.
08:33You can play songs outside the vehicle and I've got just the song.
08:45And how is the back of the new Model Y?
08:48Well, it's just as spacious as it has always been.
08:51I've always enjoyed sitting in the back of these as Ubers.
08:56But I can already tell you the rear seats aren't squeaking,
08:59which was a massive issue in the previous generation models.
09:03And the leather quality, the general interior quality hasn't really dropped from the front
09:08to the back seat, which has become like a really common thing to find in new cars.
09:11They keep all the nice stuff up the front where you spend most of your time
09:14and do a little bit of cost cutting in the back.
09:16Matt pockets, the leather, leather soft touch materials extend.
09:21Not quite as soft here on the sort of middle of the door cars.
09:24Soft touch materials down here.
09:25And the synthetic leather does extend all the way to the bottom of the doors.
09:30This is in my driving position.
09:32And I have, honestly, 20, 25 centimeters of leg room in front of me.
09:37And I'm about six foot tall.
09:40Armrest with the cup holders.
09:42A little bit of scratchy plastic material they're hidden behind them,
09:45but generally quite good.
09:47Space wise, I think you could pretty comfortably fit four people in this car
09:50and squeeze a third person in for shorter trips.
09:53Two USB ports in the rear here.
09:55Vents in the rear.
09:57And a rear touch screen, which I'll show you right now.
10:00A lot of the same things from the front touch screen.
10:02Back here, you've got climate control positions,
10:05which over here control the same way as the front.
10:08You've got seat controls.
10:09You actually have rear seat heating in the base model model Y,
10:13which is pretty impressive.
10:14Oh, and while we're back here, on a practicality note,
10:17the rear seats are power folding.
10:20Look at that.
10:21How cool is that?
10:22And it has a pretty flat load space.
10:25And this is on a car that's like mid $60,000.
10:29It has electronic rear folding seats.
10:32I've thought of a lot of things with this car.
10:34These are the top line range and performance figures for the Tesla Model Y
10:38rear wheel drive that we're driving today.
10:40You can pause them now on screen.
10:42And these are the top line specs for the top of the range all-wheel drive model
10:46that's also available in Australia right now.
10:47And now we know a little bit more about the Tesla Model Y in terms of range performance.
10:52It's time to get behind the wheel.
10:53All right.
10:54So behind the wheel of the brand new Tesla Model Y,
10:58we're driving the rear wheel drive model, which is the entry level model.
11:02And I've spent probably about 150, 200 kilometers driving already behind the scenes.
11:07And I have to say, I'm seriously impressed by this thing.
11:10The first thing that stands out to me is the suspension.
11:13I really liked the updated suspension, the new Model 3.
11:17And I think it's carried over here in the Model Y.
11:20Previously, that car just felt too stiff for me, a little bit too skateboardy.
11:24And I feel like the battery, the stiffness that brought sort of took away from some of the
11:29ride comfort.
11:31The steering is also remarkably good.
11:33I don't think people give Tesla quite enough credit for having really good vehicle dynamics.
11:39I mean, look at that over that bum there, really impressive.
11:41The steering is direct, sharp, quick enough, except it's not twitchy.
11:46And the lane keep assistance doesn't pull the steering wheel out of your hands either.
11:50The way the accelerator and brake pedal tuned are pretty much spot on,
11:54gives you the amount of acceleration that you're expecting.
11:56And the regenerative braking is assisted by the camera.
11:59So when you pull up to junctions and intersections, it slows down for you.
12:03When I look at a car that has good suspension, it's usually when the dampers or the ride,
12:08it's a one up, one down sort of action.
12:11So there's a bump, it compresses, it decompresses, and doesn't bounce after the fact.
12:16And I think a lot of EVs really struggle with that.
12:18Whereas this Model Y, it's pretty impressive.
12:21It hits a bump, it lifts, it damps, and it doesn't bounce around, which is quite impressive.
12:27Because these batteries do add a lot of sort of innate stiffness to the chassis.
12:31And I think they've done a pretty good job at engineering out a lot of that stiffness and
12:34making it nice and comfortable.
12:36And then there's the power.
12:37So this is the base model car with the least amount of power.
12:40The acceleration is still pretty solid for an electric vehicle.
12:44And as you can see right there, you can do a 60 to 80 overtake pretty easily.
12:50And I think the rear wheel drive single motor setup also aids with that front axle steering.
12:56And it unweights the front so you know a little bit more about what those front wheels are doing.
13:01Because all they have to do is change direction.
13:04They don't have to put power to the ground in any way.
13:06We'll do a little 40 to 80 here just to show you what the in-gear acceleration is like.
13:11So you're cruising around right now and then you floor it.
13:15It's pretty good.
13:16I don't think you need much more than that.
13:17That's certainly faster than any petrol car for this sort of money.
13:21You do have traffic-aware cruise control and autopilot beta in this car.
13:27I used the traffic-aware cruise control on the way up to the Blue Mountains this weekend.
13:31It's very good.
13:32You can adjust the distance from the car in front.
13:34It's pretty much radar cruise control essentially.
13:36So it does a really good job of picking up the car in front of you,
13:38as you can probably see on the screen when cars drive past, and giving you that distance.
13:42And then there's that thing, a precision indicator.
13:45It's really interesting.
13:46It'll indicate until I'm in the lane.
13:48So watch this.
13:49I don't actually have to cancel it.
13:50You just hit it once.
13:51Then once it knows that I'm in the lane, it automatically cancels, which is really smart.
13:56What else have I experienced on my drive up to the Blue Mountains?
13:58Well, even the base model sound system is really good.
14:02You get a better sound system in the dual-range long motor.
14:05Oh, long motor.
14:06The long-range dual motor, should I say.
14:08But this sound system is still pretty darn good.
14:11I know it's funny when it's like an unbranded sound system and it sounds this good
14:14because so many manufacturers love putting a brand on it to make it sound better than it is on paper.
14:19But the sound system in this car is exceptional.
14:21I can see all around me out the front here.
14:24It's a big aspect ratio.
14:25Out the rear, my rear visibility at the rear view mirror is not the best.
14:29That's never been a hallmark of Tesla vehicles.
14:32Down the side though, no blind spots.
14:34And you have the camera anyway to back you up.
14:36I think maybe my only real complaint when it comes to the way the car drives is just
14:40it's honestly the seat.
14:42And it's really comfortable around town.
14:45I think the synthetic leather is amongst the best that I've ever touched.
14:49But it doesn't really do a good job through the seat base.
14:52And you do find your bum moving around a little bit and your back as well.
14:56It's fairly well supported through the back.
14:59And it only really becomes an issue when you're sort of pushing the car a little bit more.
15:01But obviously we can't do that today because it is busy.
15:05So how do I sum up the driving experience in the Model Y?
15:08Very, very good.
15:09For a car that's mid $60,000 and this is the base model, the ride quality is really good.
15:16The steering gives you plenty of feedback.
15:19It's quick, the rack, but it's not twitchy.
15:22The brake, the accelerator pedal, just do exactly what you expect them to do.
15:25There's enough punch even from this single motor model.
15:28I mean, it's probably more power than anyone buying this car would need.
15:33There are really not many notes for me.
15:34They've nailed the chassis.
15:36I think one of the biggest complaints I had from driving the dual range,
15:39dual motor performance model was just how stiff it was.
15:42The chassis were just overly stiff.
15:44It's riding on the 19-inch wheels and no stiffness.
15:48It'd be interesting to drive the dual motor because it has bigger wheels
15:50and you might have a little bit more crashiness over potholes and things like that.
15:54But honestly, I'm pretty impressed.
15:57So that's it for the brand new 2025 Tesla Model Y.
16:01Let me know if you think they've done enough to save their sales.
16:05I think they have.
16:06I think they've absolutely nailed this car.
16:08It has a great exterior design.
16:09I think it's nice and sharp and masculine.
16:11I think the interior is so premium and I love the way it drives.
16:15I can't even lie.
16:16I think sometimes the best products are made
16:18when companies are in dire need of a great one.
16:21I think Tesla's done it.
16:27The sustainable normal engine reduces the boss if they want to know about the way,
16:32on the platforms it's good to realize
16:33but it's reasonable to find them with the outside of a lot of their data.
16:37Just keep reading down.
16:39Come back to your home.
16:39Let's eat for the new business owners.
16:41Let's see more.
16:41I'm in.
