00:12Welcome back to Monday Munchies. This week we're in Sydney CBD on George Street just outside Regent Place and this
00:18is a bit of a secret Japanese hotspot or so I've heard. We're going to test that today. We're going
00:22to hit a few spots. We're even going to hit like a grocery store. We're going to check out some
00:25of the shops and obviously eat plenty of food. So come along and we'll explore this place.
00:35So John's given me a cheat sheet and the first place we're going is Mido Mart. I'm a stand up.
00:42I don't walk down. Was this elevator? I don't walk down elevators. This is a elevator. Kobe beef. So the
00:53first spot on my cheat sheet is going to be Mido Mart. Asian grocery store. Always a lot of fun.
00:57Let's head inside.
00:58Where do you start? What's the hottest thing? This looks spicy. Tyrant Veneer. It's spicy. This is how you walk
01:07around one of these stores. You've got Google Translate open.
01:11Then there. It's spicy. Tyrant Mountain. All right, we'll try that. A little spicy. We've got to get a Pringle.
01:17I've got to get a spicy one. I'm going to get a Pringle.
01:22Hold on. What's this mean? A delicious. It says it's delicious. I'm going to get this one. I'm getting the
01:29BTS one. Is that Rat Monster? Damn.
01:33Oh, do they have those ice cream chicken drumsticks? Excuse me. Where do I find this thing? This marketing works
01:38on me so well.
01:40Oh, look at the whole section of sake. We've got to get a Pokemon one. I've got an ice cream.
01:45I've got an ice cream for sure.
01:46Here we go. Now we're talking. Apparently this is pretty good shit.
01:51What is that?
01:53So we've got our whole starting with this. Oh.
01:59So it's iced coffee. It's mid. I'm not going to lie.
02:02Oh, wait. There's something in the middle. There's something in the middle.
02:06What is that?
02:08Oh, it's chocolate. It's sparkly. What do they call it? It's popping. Like, it has rock like candies in it.
02:13Popping candy.
02:13Now we're talking. This is good. So this amount of fun will cost you two bucks.
02:19Alright, we're going for the big bad one now. Yeah, it's got all these chilies. So it's going to crank.
02:23I hope it's hot. I want to cry. They're good. They taste like french fries. This is a real Aussie
02:30thing, but those are like stick chips.
02:32French fries, they taste like that. The spices are low. Price check, four bucks.
02:36It's a slow burn. It's an honest burn. I would eat it.
02:40Next up, we're going with the prawn chips. Oh. Nothing like a bit of single-use plastic.
02:47Exactly how you'd expect. It's got like seaweed in it, but it has that sort of prawn flavour.
02:51Crispy. Oh, so this is shrimp nori flavour. Four bucks.
02:54They stay crispy because they're in this like sealed packet.
02:58We're going to do Pikachu juice next. Apple, apparently.
03:01But it says here it's got, oh no, only a little bit of lactate. Price check real quick. $2.49.
03:08No, it's just straight apple juice. They got my ass with the Pikachu.
03:12That would go really well with your prawn, your shrimp crisps.
03:16Smash a bit of rat monster. I think it's just black coffee, but it's not good.
03:21Yeah, it actually looks sweet.
03:23Right, okay. $8.
03:25Why has chocolate got so expensive?
03:29Look, I'm going to be honest. I've never found a chocolate that tastes better than Cadbury.
03:33But it tastes pretty good.
03:34How much did it all cost? Almost $24.
03:37And now I'm going to rank it.
03:38So number one was the ice cream, which is now in the bin.
03:41So we place the ice cream here.
03:44Next to that, we've got, I love shrimp.
03:47So it's going here. We've got number two.
03:49Chocolate, number three.
03:50Habanero, number four.
03:52Juice.
03:53And then coffee.
03:55Honestly, out of all the stuff that I had though, the cheapest thing.
03:57Two bucks for that ice cream and it was fine.
04:00All right, I'm already starting to get full.
04:01We've got like a few more places to hit.
04:03I think three more places.
04:04I think it's time to put the snacks aside and go eat some real food.
04:07So we're referring to the cheat sheet.
04:09The next place we're checking out is Dorpa.
04:11So it's some bonburi.
04:12I've heard they've got the best.
04:16It's always katsu.
04:17You always got to go katsu.
04:22So we've actually already been to one of these establishments before.
04:25It's the same people that are responsible for Devin Cafe, which is one of our favorite
04:28brecks with spots in Sydney.
04:30So John ordered the scrambled eggs.
04:31I ordered the chicken katsu.
04:32I played it very white boy, but I might still summon John's scrambled eggs too.
04:36So what are we looking at?
04:37We've got seaweed, well-cooked egg, chicken katsu that's looking super crispy and really
04:41well-seasoned, some spring onions.
04:43They're a little bit of crisp.
04:45I'm sick of talking about let's just eat it.
04:46So many of these places you go to, they have this generic looking chicken.
04:49This looks legit.
04:57Damn.
04:58That is good chicken katsu.
05:00Yeah, and you want to get a bite of everything at once.
05:03So you kind of, you need to dig in there, you get your elbows out a little bit.
05:05Get a piece of your chicken.
05:12$18.78, so under $20.
05:13And this one, $10.
05:15It's such a good value lunch and it's actually, it's premium.
05:18They're not skimping out.
05:19They're not cutting any corners here.
05:21Just like they don't cut any corners at Devin Cafe.
05:23I think the last time we were there, we had caviar for breakfast.
05:26So I'm going to finish eating this.
05:27This has been an absolutely outstanding non-buri bowl.
05:29But next up, we're going to hit the Jimmy Bakehouse.
05:31I'm referring to my cheat sheet, which John is nice to put together for me.
05:34We're going to smash a mochi box and then a pocket pancake.
05:39So let's check it out.
05:43That's my best angle.
05:44This guy keeps following us around.
05:45I have no idea who it is.
05:47Could I please get a vanilla ice cream, banana Nutella, please?
05:52A cream cheese Oreo.
05:55What do you want?
05:56Oh, actually the cocoa mochi box.
05:58I was trying to box.
05:59I saw that.
06:00Right.
06:00Okay.
06:01No problems.
06:01So I just had to roll myself out of doper.
06:04But what better way to cleanse your palate than with a couple of pancake pockets?
06:08We're here at Fujimi Bakehouse.
06:09We've got four of these bad boys.
06:10So you can get them with or without ice cream.
06:12We've got vanilla Nutella here.
06:13And we've got black sesame over here.
06:15And then we've got two secret ones.
06:18And I kind of don't want to tell you what's in here.
06:19I'm going to start with the ice cream before all these things melt.
06:22So give it here, mate.
06:23It's most...
06:24Oh, look at that.
06:25The bottom is like stitched.
06:32They're almost good.
06:33Vanilla and Nutella.
06:34Keep it simple.
06:38That's a cross-section.
06:41That's what we call a perfect bite in the industry.
06:45I think it's better than an ice cream sandwich.
06:46I'm going to try it.
06:50It's just cream.
06:51So instead of ice cream, they use cream.
06:54And this is your fresh chocolate.
06:56And then we've got...
06:58Oh, so it's stuck now.
06:59So that's pretty smart.
07:00This is just vanilla.
07:01So I'll just give it a...
07:04It's more cheesecake than vanilla.
07:07It's good.
07:09It's really good, but...
07:11The ice cream is where it's at.
07:13$5 each.
07:14The ice cream one's a little bit more expensive.
07:15They're like $6.50.
07:16But a scoop of gelato at Anita or any of those gelato places is like $6, $7.
07:20So it's pretty good value.
07:21I've got one more place to hit up.
07:22I'm about to literally pass out.
07:24I've had that much food.
07:25But this is work, apparently.
07:28Last spot now.
07:29We're heading Uncle Tetsu's.
07:30I've been telling John about this for like ever.
07:32I hope they have my cranberry light.
07:34Please.
07:35Uh-oh, they don't add these in an elevator.
07:37Or what do you call it?
07:37What do you call these things again?
07:38Let's go.
07:39Let's go.
07:39Fuck.
07:42So, I'm standing in line for this crème brûlée cake.
07:45I'm standing in line for the crème brûlée...
07:48Cré...
07:48Cré...
07:59Cré, this is going to be so good.
08:00Oh, yeah.
08:08Cré...
08:09Cré...
08:09Cré...
08:10Cré...
08:11Cré...
08:11Cré...
08:18Cré...
08:27Cré...
08:28Cré...
08:29Cré...
08:29Cré...
08:29Cré...
08:32Flour...
08:35Cré...
08:41Cré...
08:43But I've waited so long to have this thing is this cranberry leg crepe any good
08:49I'm just gonna bite into it. We only got one leave the rest for the people
08:58It's really good it is really good
09:04The further down I'm getting with this the better it gets everything's falling to the bottom
09:09Yeah, there's a bit of cheesecake in it too. I think it's it's good. So yeah
09:12And don't get me wrong like Uncle Tetsu's kills the cheesecakes like this is plays a 15-minute walk from
09:18the office
09:18I'm coming here like once a week. It's fun. But can I finish it?
09:22I mean look how much I've had I've done it pretty well with how many places we hit today. I've
09:25done pretty well
09:25So it's clearly pretty good. So that's it for Regent place
09:29It's kind of hard to believe that a place like this that everyone just walks past is in the middle
09:33of Sydney CBD
09:33And there's so many places in there that we didn't hit. I think highlight for me today was doper
09:39The snacks were really cool to a bit of fun
09:41I mean, maybe I didn't think the best snacks
09:43Maybe we should come back and hit another Asian grocer with someone that really knows what they're talking about
09:47But this has been another Monday munchies. Where should we go next?
