00:04I'm Pat McInerney, I'm half-owner of Willie the Boatman Brewery in St Peters.
00:10We're home brewers, we're very amateur home brewers actually.
00:14I was working in television as a producer and Nick was working on
00:18international events such as the Sydney Olympics, London Olympics.
00:21We thought our beer was pretty good and so we decided to back ourselves in.
00:25Have I got a favourite beer? It'd be like saying have I got a favourite child.
00:30Every beer that we make is pretty special, it's a very labour intensive brewery so
00:34everything we do is very much touched by our brewers and ourselves.
00:38I really wanted to connect to our local community.
00:41All our beers were named after our friends and people who lived in the area.
00:46So we have the Rachel Cider, we've got a beer called the Crazy Ivan
00:51and then we have the Albo Beer which is named after our local Federal member Anthony Albanese.
00:56The name comes from local history so I went on a history walk about ten years ago
01:02around my local area which is Tempe.
01:04I came across Willie the Boatman and his story.
01:06He was a Scottish convict, it was his job to row the boat across the Cooks River everyday
01:12and hence the name Willie the Boatman.
01:14Now we really try and do as much for the community through the business as we possibly can.
01:19So I suppose that the passion has kind of become all involved with the brewery
01:25and we share our passion through beer and our love of our community.
01:29If I could brew a beer for anyone, dead or alive, I'd probably say Gough Whitlam
01:35but I think Gough would have enjoyed a beer.
01:38The most rewarding thing about owning a craft brewery is just having people come in and enjoy your product.
01:44Next on the cards for Willie the Boatman.
01:46I hope in the next sort of 12 months that obviously we'll grow our brand.
01:51As long as we act as a good ethical corporate neighbour to our community,
01:56I think our community will always look after us.
01:58I just look forward to seeing the business grow and seeing the brand grow.
02:02yeah...
02:07yeah...
