00:06Livestock drives survival across Africa's arid regions, anchoring nearly a quarter of
00:12Sub-Saharan Africa's agricultural GDP.
00:15But for millions of herders, the economic disconnect begins right at the grazing lands.
00:22We as a pastoralist cannot often get credit with our cattle as collateral, so we cannot
00:28do business or engage in any other activities.
00:31On the market side, our markets are not competitive.
00:35Not so many buyers come.
00:38Often, it's one merchant who buys and he sets the price as he wishes.
00:44Monopolized local markets are just the first hurdle.
00:48When livestock finally enters the formal trade loop, the continent loses the most
00:53lucrative slice of the value chain, processing.
00:56If our farmers have to benefit, there must be strong efforts or a paradigm shift in Africa
01:03towards this value addition.
01:04If you process a live cattle, you can generate $1,750.
01:12But if you export it live, you generate only $500.
01:17This immense valuation gap is sustained by deep logistical and regulatory bottlenecks.
01:23First of all, the deficit in infrastructure.
01:27The roads, transport, energy, coal chain, that will enable adding value and processing for
01:33our livestock resources.
01:34And the other key challenge is the policy.
01:39Livestock sector is not involved within the policy dialogue, and also there is lots of
01:44barriers between the African member states, and this is hindering the investments and the
01:50integration of the trade between these member states.
01:52At the inaugural African Pastoral Markets Forum in Ethiopia, policy makers moved to weaponize the
01:59African continental free trade area to strip away these internal borders.
02:04It simply means that Africa can trade duty free, quota free, on the given number of products that are
02:12coming from livestock, while also looking at processed livestock resources. And what it then means is that the
02:20infrastructure that would support the movement of these goods from all other African countries,
02:25you know, will be realized as well.
02:28Global plays are also shifting. China's expanding zero-tariff treatment for least developed African
02:34nations is opening direct corridors to the world's largest consumer market.
02:40We were very pleased with the tariff and the taxation lift on the goods from Africa to China. Also,
02:48beside the markets is the technical cooperation. We are looking forward to continue our discussions
02:53with the Chinese Academy for Agricultural Science to support further the know-how and the technology
02:58transfer to the African member states. The blueprint to transform African pastoralism from subsistence to a
03:06global agro-industrial powerhouse is clear. The test now lies in cross-border execution.
03:11You've got to take the clarification.
03:14You see an accurateそうそう you're going to pass ہ всем, but here's the original
03:15requirements for a bigger gun. Is it organized and thatHello urine is not allowed to lurish into
03:15humans with the lakes and the labels? And the only answers where everyone should pass from those
03:15practices. The literature can be from the built- destiny.
