00:05much just someone that has excessive sweat in a given area of their body. So
00:11I sweat pretty much all the time but it gets way worse when I'm nervous and I'm
00:15super nervous to be on camera right now. So I'm actually extremely worried that
00:19it's gonna be disgusting in a couple minutes. It's really bad. Yeah. It
00:27definitely impacts my self-esteem. I find it really embarrassing honestly. I'm
00:31super excited to be getting the MiraDry treatment and dealing with my sweat
00:37situation forever. I'm willing to do anything to not have to deal with this
00:41anymore. Hi my name is Dr. Robert Analik and I'm a board-certified dermatologist here
00:46in New York City at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York. So the MiraDry
00:49procedure is an exciting new approach to treat unwanted sweating in the armpits.
00:54It uses energy actually in the form of microwave which sounds wild but we can
00:59safely apply that to the skin surface to reduce the number of sweat glands in the
01:04what we call axilla or commonly known as the armpit. Hi I am walking to the
01:10appointment right now and I'm really excited. I'm super excited to talk to the
01:14doctor and feel more comfortable and then be done with sweat forever.
01:20Okay I was just given my very pretty gown to put on and I'm about to go into my
01:26procedure. I'm still really excited. I know that we're starting with some
01:30numbing and then we'll actually do the needles so I'm still not really nervous.
01:36I guess this is kind of a fun way to do it with a bunch of people around so I
01:40will
01:40talk to you guys on the other side. So we schedule patients to come in and they're
01:45comfortably positioned on the exam table. We mark out the area where the majority of
01:49the sweating occurs which is typically where the hair is growing. We can easily
01:54map out the area and then inject lidocaine which is a numbing medicine to
01:57make the procedure painless. This is what we call the biotip so we'll apply it to
02:01the machine and we'll pass this over your skin surface. We pass it many times
02:04over the area on one armpit and then we switch to the other. When the treatment is
02:08done the area typically feels still numb until later in the day where it can start to
02:12become a bit sore and a little bit tender. When I was going on job interviews I
02:17found that to be particularly bad. I was just super nervous and I also had to wear
02:23a nice long sleeve tight button-down shirt. All I wanted to do was go in and be
02:29the most confident version of myself which I couldn't do because I was
02:34dripping in sweat. The effect of these treatments should be for many years.
02:38MiraDry technology is right now only used in the underarm. Of course we're
02:43exploring options for using in other areas because we're curious. It's not just
02:48used for sweat reduction. Sometimes we use it to reduce hair as well. Almost
02:53everybody who does this notices some reduction in hair under their arm after
02:57the treatment. Women love that and men don't care. So we're just about done.
03:01You've done wonderfully. I do expect like we discussed you'll have a little soreness, a
03:07few days under the arm. Great job. Congratulations. It's a very
03:12straightforward experience and the sweating should immediately become
03:15reduced. So I am about 12 hours in to post procedure and I'm in some pretty bad
03:27pain but I know it's to be expected. My armpits are like super swollen. I can feel
03:35that they're like huge. I don't even know how to describe it. It's like it feels
03:40like there's something like in it. They're also like really hot to the touch but no
03:45sweat so that's cool. Day two post surgery. I'm actually feeling okay. I didn't
03:51sleep so great last night because I was in a lot of pain. This one is doing pretty
03:57well. You can see all the like shots that were put in for the numbing. That's what
04:03all the red marks are but other than that it's like kind of fine. This is
04:06another story. This one's kind of bad. So again the red dots but then there's
04:12like some bruising. This one's really swollen. Okay so it has now been about
04:18three days with my new armpits and I have a job interview today. This shirt is
04:26literally what my nightmares are made of. Once it gets a little bit wet it kind of
04:30travels so trying it again. But over the past few days I haven't had any issues
04:36at all. I haven't been sweating at all. Which is wild. This is after running today.
04:46Nothing. Either side. So that's pretty awesome.
04:53So it has now been a little over a week since getting my procedure done. I can't
04:59wait to go out for the first time and wear a shirt like this. Something that's
05:04tight and has sleeves and not have to worry about enjoying the time with my
05:08friends because I'm self-conscious about lifting up my arms. I can do whatever I
05:12want just like everyone else and I'll be fine. And it really feels like it has
05:19changed how I'm going to be able to go through my life day to day which is
05:24amazing.
