00:04And now, slowly, as the old guard is dying off,
00:07you're seeing this equality emerging.
00:11My name is Jeanine Sherman-Berrois,
00:13and I am the writer and director of French Fries.
00:16Being a woman in the TV industry is hard as hell.
00:19It's difficult.
00:20And you need as many people around you
00:23supporting your career.
00:24You know, so often, it's so hard to get anything done,
00:28to get the resources, and to have Shatterbox, Refinery29,
00:33and TNT come together and finance these films
00:36so that we could actually tell a story that we wanted to tell.
00:39I think it's important.
00:43I really wanted to get females behind the scenes,
00:46and so all of these women sort of came together and said,
00:49let's kind of help each other and uplift each other.
00:53I used to go into casting, and people would say,
00:55am I reading with you?
00:56And I'd be like, no, I'm actually the boss.
00:58They're not used to having women that look like me
01:02be the ones that are behind the money,
01:04behind the creative decisions, behind the casting.
01:07But now, people are realizing that the narratives
01:11cannot just be told from a male point of view.
01:14And women are no longer being quiet about it.
01:19If I could give a young woman advice in this industry,
01:21I'd tell them, just do your story, direct your movie.
01:24Don't wait for anybody to give you permission.
01:26Because the more voices that we have of women out there,
01:30the broader appeal all of our narratives will be.
