00:06I want to dye my hair pink.
00:08I have dyed my hair before, but it was only ever, like,
00:11box dyes of, like, reddish brown or black.
00:16I actually really love my current hair.
00:19I love how thick my hair is.
00:20I actually really like its natural color.
00:23My hair inspiration was from this one character
00:26from an older anime called Revolutionary Girl Utena.
00:30The main character has pink hair, and I put the wig on,
00:32and I was, like, obsessed with that color,
00:35like, the specific pink color.
00:36I've always really liked dressing up in costumes,
00:38and, like, I had, like, a little costume box as a kid.
00:41I, like, learned about anime, and then I learned about conventions,
00:45and then I learned that people would dress up at conventions,
00:47and I was just instantly just obsessed with the idea of it.
00:51There is actually a model that has pink hair that I really like.
00:54Fernanda Lee made me realize that pink hair doesn't have to look,
00:56like, super quirky.
00:58It can look, like, high fashion and cool and very stylish.
01:01I'm excited to see what people think about it,
01:03and I'm excited to just see it for myself.
01:05Now let's head over to the salon to see the transformation.

01:09So, just so you know how this process works,
01:12I'm going to be applying the lightener to the ends first
01:14and then to the roots.
01:16It's going to get quite light quite quickly at the closer to your scalp
01:20because of the heat from your head, and then we wait.
01:22I'm so excited.
01:24I know, I'm always like, get excited,
01:26and then I'm like, but just sit still for a while now, you know?
01:36One of the reasons I've always hesitated dying my hair pink
01:40is because it would take away one of the things
01:42that makes me fit in with my culture.
01:46I've always been, like, a white-passing Latina,
01:48and so I feel like if I take away that dark hair,
01:51then that takes away one of the things
01:53that makes me feel like I look Latina.
01:55I'm hoping that dying my hair pink will still make me feel, like,
01:58confident and awesome and won't take away any part of my identity,
02:01but you never know.
02:06I'm a little nervous just because I don't know what upkeep goes into it,
02:10and I've also heard that having dark hair and dying it a light color
02:13can be really challenging.
02:15I guess my only fear is that it's going to come out, like,
02:17a different pink that I've always envisioned,
02:19or, like, maybe my skin tone doesn't go super well with it.
02:52I want to dye my hair now
02:53because I feel like I've been putting it off for a really long time,
02:56and I don't want to get to a point
02:57where I regret not trying it out sooner.
03:16I also have a lot of friends
03:17that have really encouraged me in getting my hair dyed pink, so...
03:21Nothing's really holding me back at this point.

03:44I guess because I've worn so many wigs and stuff,
03:46it's just interesting that this is what my hair is going to look like

03:59Now that it's lighter, I feel like I can experiment
04:01with different colors in the future as well.
04:03But for right now, I'm definitely going to enjoy the pink.
04:16I feel so much more confident.
04:18I didn't realize I would like it this much.
04:21I was really worried about it taking away my identity,
04:23and it doesn't do that at all.
04:24I still feel like myself.
04:26I'm so excited to rock this pink hair.
