00:03Facetune is like plastic surgery on your phone.
00:06I hate all of it.
00:08I'm Marla.
00:09I live in New York City.
00:10I work at Yelp.
00:11I'm in sales.
00:14Having a social media presence and having a good one,
00:16it definitely helps in my career.
00:19They're more apt to take a meeting with me in person
00:21because of what they see on my Instagram.
00:28Almost all plastic surgeons will tell you
00:30that they are seeing patients coming younger.
00:34Hi, my name is Mira Saleem.
00:35Two weeks from now, I'm about to have nose surgery.
00:38When I get my nose done,
00:41I'll be able to, like, take more pictures
00:42that I'd, like, want to take.
00:45I knew that I wanted my nose fixed.
00:49There's less guilt about undergoing procedures.
00:52Five or ten years ago, people might have brought in
00:54the picture of a magazine cover supermodel.
00:57Now they're bringing in a picture of themselves,
00:59but just in a slightly optimized way
01:01where Facetune or a Snapchat filter
01:04will give them a millimeter more
01:06of a cheekbone projection or a fuller lip
01:08or a straighter nose.
01:09It represents a healthier version of body image.
01:13Nobody is going to look like they have an Instagram
01:15sparkle filter on them all the time.
01:20Got it.
01:27Are you ready for where I put my Facetune?
01:30I hide it in a full...
01:32Main page, secondary.
01:37It's in utilities.
01:39So Facetune is an app for editing portraits.
01:43You can adjust lighting.
01:45You can remove blemishes.
01:48So we have between one to 1.5 million images exported
01:53on a daily basis.
01:55Everyone wants to glam up their photos,
01:57whether you are a Kardashian or a lawyer.
02:00I'll use Facetune to fix my nose
02:03and erase the bump or make my lips a little bit more plump.
02:10This will do.
02:12I am really tired of editing my photos.
02:15And like my back hurts to some extent
02:18from doing all the editing.
02:20And I also get a lot of anxiety from it.
02:23I might as well get the real surgery to become the image that I really want to portray.
02:32Do you ever make a mistake?
02:33And then just something gets huge?
02:36I have a large nose.
02:38I have large eyes.
02:39I got my lips done in the first place to balance out my large nose
02:42because I wasn't ready to get a rhinoplasty.
02:45That was before I found out that you could do a non-surgical rhinoplasty.
02:49And that's how it all started.
02:51It makes a difference.
02:52Okay, it doesn't look that different right now.
02:54But like, look at my mouth.
03:02It like, oh, that's another thing they add is lashes.
03:06When I first told one of my close friends that I was getting the surgery done,
03:10he wasn't shocked.
03:11And I was like, like, why aren't you shocked?
03:13And he was like, Samira, you've been planning this for four years now.
03:18I would say that over 95% of my patients are millennials.
03:23Younger people are more aware of the way that they look from all different angles.
03:29They see themselves a lot more than, you know, older generations did.
03:34I really do think that the advent of things like Facetune and filters
03:39and Snapchat and Instagram, the ability of us to manipulate our photos
03:44gives people a clearer idea on what exactly they want to change.
03:55I wore glasses for a long time.
03:57And then when I took off my glasses, like I realized, oh, like I have this bump on my nose.
04:02I don't post as much on social media just because I'm insecure with the way I look.
04:07Part of the reason I do want the surgery is so I can take nicer pictures and be proud of
04:12them.
04:12And I think the only way to do that is if I was to either get my nose filled or
04:17like surgery itself.
04:30I wish I could change my perception and like not feel this way, but I know that that's not changing.
04:37Like I know myself.
04:41Oh, yeah.
04:44Zemira.
04:46Come on in.
04:48Hi, Mom.
04:55Perfect.
04:58Great.
05:00So we're going to download these and I'll take a look at them with your mom.
05:06So first thing we're going to do is just look at the pictures without changing them.
05:10Okay.
05:10You can see it kind of comes over.
05:13Yeah.
05:13And that happens too because of the deviated septum.
05:16So after we want everything to be straight into the middle.
05:19Right.
05:19Perfect.
05:20On the side, you know, we see that bump that you don't like.
05:24Yeah.
05:24Okay.
05:25Some people will look at this and say like, yes, that's what I want.
05:28And some people will look at this and say, that's not really me.
05:32Okay.
05:32She's just 19 in a couple of years.
05:35That will automatically change.
05:37I had it too when I was younger.
05:39I'm sure with time it would change, but she doesn't want to wait.
05:44So I really wish she liked the nose that she has because I think it's perfect.
05:49And she's beautiful.
05:50There's no need for any alteration there.
05:53Okay.
05:53I'm going to mail these to you.
05:55Okay.
05:55I'm going to have you put your email in.
05:57And so you have these.
05:58And then this way you have my email too.
06:00Any questions you're going to, you're going to send to me.
06:03Perfect.
06:05Nice to meet you.
06:06Nice to meet you.
06:07Nice to meet you.
06:08Nice to meet you too.
06:09Good job, mom.
06:15Facetune is a high, changing yourself, perfecting yourself in an instant with the procedure like
06:20non-surgical rhinoplasty.
06:22All of it is a high and you feel so, so good.
06:30She was like so beautiful.
06:31Why did it take that long to get two shots?
06:33Well, he's really handsome.
06:34He's very good looking.
06:36I wonder if they're super busy.
06:37And apparently his grandma's house in Greece is.
06:40He is a house in Greece?
06:41700 years old with the house.
06:45Is she 700 years old?
06:46In the entire island.
06:48Well, can you get his friend to like me?
06:49I need to get him to like.
06:50And then we can go to Greece?
06:51When we were in Greece, these two were always like, let's get a photo, let's get a photo,
06:55let's get a photo.
06:55And I was always like, do we have to do another photo?
06:57And now it's opposite.
06:59I cut off all social media during the week because it's easy to become obsessive and feel
07:04like you don't have enough or you need to be traveling more.
07:07Every time I open up my search, it's like cute girl in a bikini on vacation, another cute
07:11girl in a bikini on vacation.
07:12Part of why I deleted Instagram was because ever since me and my boyfriend had broken up, like,
07:17you would just go on Instagram and you see all these beautiful girls.
07:22And then you just feel shitty about yourself, you know?
07:24Like you look in the mirror to the left and you're like, that's not how I look.
07:27That's like my fear is like editing my photos to the point where if someone sees me in real life,
07:32they're like, mmm, you don't look like that.
07:36Yeah, my nose looks small on that one.
07:38Okay.
07:38You face too now.
07:39I've never used face in real life.
07:41Okay.
07:41It's basically a downward spiral that I feel like I'm in.
07:45Yo, that looks great.
07:47That's unreal.
07:48But like, look how much better that looks.
07:50You know, I can't get my head above water because the more you edit, the more you get that instant
07:55high
07:56and that instant gratification.
07:58It's hard to get, it's hard to get out of the routine.
08:03Oh, I want to take a shot.
08:05Okay.
08:06Cheers to my nose not falling off on Saturday.
08:09Cheers.
08:09For the new nose.
08:10For the best.
08:11All right.
08:12Oh my God.
08:23Cheap.
08:24All right.
08:25I have a cell pile.
08:27Hopefully I can make a little bit of money because I just moved.
08:31So I'm just trying to balance, like I have to afford a couch, which means I have to sell a
08:37lot of my things.
08:38And also for space too, there's just no space.
08:45You know, these can be bought and sold.
08:47Whereas I feel differently about tattoos and plastic surgery.
08:51I feel like it's an investment in myself.
08:54Whereas things like this are kind of just, I don't know, a band-aid if you think about it.
08:59It's a little bit of where my head's at right now versus where it was years ago.
09:04I went through a breakup and it was the first one that really knocked me on my ass.
09:08And the first thing that I did after we broke up was lose 20 pounds and I got my lips
09:15done.
09:16It's another thing.
09:17When I'm unhappy, I collect stuff.
09:19You know, so I'm just trying to like have less stuff and really just invest more in me.
09:26Because when something's taken away from you, it can make you unhappy.
09:29And so I'm trying to consolidate the things in my life that you can't take away from me.
09:33I guess you could take away injections if you think about it.
09:36But I know when that's going to leave my life.
09:40You know, my body breaks down my lips every four months.
09:43Gotta get it done every four months.
09:44And so, you know, it's not like a guy that can just disappear out of your life.
09:49I mean, you know, pull the wool over your head.
10:00How tall are you?
10:02Uh, 5'4".
10:04Okay.
10:08See?
10:11She's going to be good.
10:12And she really needs the functional component of the surgery.
10:15That I'm okay with.
10:16She really needs it.
10:17Really.
10:18Her sinuses are very congested.
10:20Okay.
10:21So she's going to feel a lot better.
10:24Yeah.
10:24I'd like to hear from you.
10:25Yeah.
10:26You have to.
10:27Yeah.
10:28Are you okay if I go up?
10:29Yeah.
10:30Okay.
10:35You okay?
10:36Yeah, I'm good.
10:44Hi.
10:44Hi.
10:46Welcome.
10:47I know.
10:53What are you going to watch on Netflix while you recover?
10:56I don't know.
10:56I'm waiting for my friend to send me a list.
11:10All right.
11:11We are here with Zamira Salim.
11:14S-A-L-I-M.
11:15MR is 6097325.
11:18The procedure should take about two hours to go to the recovery room and then to home.
11:22EBL should be minimal.
11:40She's going to be happy.
11:46That's it.
11:47Ta-da.
12:05I hope to gain more confidence out of this.
12:09I hope to be able to take pictures the way I want to.
12:14To look at myself from any angle and feel good about it.
12:18Am I allowed to wear glasses?
12:20Yeah.
12:20No problem.
12:21Yeah.
12:21You can definitely put them on the cast.
12:23You can do that.
12:23Do you want them?
12:25I hope that, obviously, I feel better about how I look.
12:29Because then it would be for nothing.
12:31Okay.
12:32And, like, why would I put myself through pain for nothing?
12:54Smile really big.
13:00My friends ask me if it hurt, and I don't remember it hurting.
13:04And I remember it taking 30 seconds, but I forgot that we did the numbing.
13:08How do I look?
13:10Beautiful.
13:10Do I look stunning?
13:11Okay, great.
13:12This is the best I've ever looked.
13:25And then I'm molding the filler slightly.
13:29How many of these do you think you've done?
13:31A lot.
13:41And I'm taking a look to make sure that we're getting it as perfect as we can get it.
13:46Okay, great.
13:47Looks beautiful.
13:48Even more beautiful than it already was.
13:51And you want to take a look in the mirror?
13:54Yes.
13:58Wow.
13:58So we have a nice beautiful profile from three quarters view.
14:02And from the front you have a little lift of your nasal tip.
14:05Yeah.
14:05It's nice and favorable.
14:07Oh my gosh.
14:08It looks smaller.
14:11The lifting is the craziest part.
14:14You're so welcome.
14:16You're so welcome.
14:17It makes me emotional.
14:18Let me show you your before and after.
14:24And then we can take a look at the other side.
14:27Wow.
14:30That's what my nose looks like when I'm using Facetune.
14:34You just gave me what I've been giving myself.
14:36This is the Facetuned nose.
14:38This is lifted, which is exactly what it is on the right, which is crazy.
14:43So you literally matched my Facetuned nose.
14:46I absolutely love it.
14:47I know people are slamming the concept of Facetune and Photoshop and filters.
14:52And I feel like if someone is bringing in a micro-optimized version of their own face,
14:58that's a healthier body image place to start from than bringing in the image of a celebrity
15:03who has nothing to do with you.
15:05That's such a good point.
15:06Yeah.
15:06That's like my philosophical take on that.
15:09Yeah.
15:10That's so true.
15:11But anyway.
15:11Thank you so much.
15:13Of course, my pleasure.
15:14You look great.
15:14See you soon.
15:16I feel like a better version of myself.
15:22I feel more comfortable.
15:24So I'm probably going to respond to all my DMs on Instagram,
15:28to the guys that have been wanting to meet with me and take me out on dates.
15:31And I'll probably say yes and schedule those now that I feel more comfortable.
15:36So yeah, there's like, my life is like starting up again, I feel like.
15:44All right, I'm off to New Jersey to go see my parents.
15:49For me personally, I think that this is where it ends with the surgeries.
15:57I wouldn't write anything off just because maybe 10 years from now,
16:01I'll want to change something.
16:02But for now, I think that this is it.
16:05So even if I did get surgery, I think I would still absolutely use Facetune and Snapchat.
16:15It's so addicting that I think I would still edit.
16:18There's always something that you're going to want to fix.
16:22We're never going to be completely satisfied with ourselves.
16:25And therefore, apps like Facetune will always exist.
16:28Because there's never going to be one person without one insecurity.
16:32Would you?
16:49I think that's very简单.
