00:00I'm going to just peel right off.
00:05Oh, that's my Frenchie.
00:07I'm Priscilla Valles, celebrity hair extensionist slash stylist,
00:12and I'm here with Refinery29.
00:14I'm here to show you how to properly remove your tape extensions from home.
00:18Before you see my hair transformation, subscribe to love.
00:22Hair is my whole life.
00:24I discovered my passion for hair when I was so young.
00:27I was probably like five or six years old,
00:29and I have a lot of cousins, and we're all close in age,
00:32and I would cut their hair.
00:34One would have, like, crooked bangs.
00:37One would have, like, you know, I would just, like, chop it.
00:40I got caught every single time.
00:42I specialize in hair extensions.
00:45That's just what I do.
00:47Extensions, extension cutting, which is with a razor, not scissors.
00:51I've learned, actually, every single method,
00:53and I only offer the two that I really think are the best,
00:57which is tape and extensions and hair tips.
00:59We are going to be removing my top row.
01:03I am wearing Glam Seamless Hair Extensions.
01:06I've had them in for a couple months now.
01:09I'm going to clip my hair out of the way here.
01:13You can see the tape and extension right there.
01:16The removal solution that we're going to be using
01:18is the Glam Seamless Hair Extensions,
01:20and this is Rapid Release Remover,
01:24and all you need to do is do a couple of sprays on it.
01:29Then you put your finger right in the middle,
01:32and you feel the sandwich.
01:35You want to get your finger in between the sandwich of extensions,
01:38and it'll just come right off, just like that.
01:41Everybody's hair grows a little differently,
01:43but I've got some clients that I remove every four weeks,
01:46and then I have some clients that remove every eight to 12 weeks.
01:49There's one, and then you just want to kind of go back with a fine-tooth comb
01:54if there's any residue.
01:57You just want to comb through that stickiness,
02:01and now we're going to take out the next one.
02:03You kind of spray on the tape, but also above it
02:05because you want to let the liquid get inside of the tape extension.
02:09Then you just put your finger in the middle,
02:11and because these are so grown out and old,
02:13they're just peeling them right off.
02:15I think it's all about looking extremely natural
02:18when it comes to extensions.
02:20That has to do with matching the hair textures,
02:22matching the hair color,
02:24shaping and cutting so that the ends of it look really natural
02:29with viewers wanting to take out their extensions by themselves.
02:33If you are in keratin individual bonds,
02:36and if you're in sew and wefts as well,
02:38I would recommend holding on to a little bit longer
02:41and waiting for your stylist to remove those.
02:43Clip, because that requires scissors,
02:45and there's a braid sometimes.
02:48Beret, and seal.
02:50The cost of the extensions are different per client,
02:53and there's so many different types of hair.
02:56There's virgin hair.
02:57There's manufactured hair.
02:59It just really, really depends.
03:01It can vary anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000.
03:04It just depends on what the client is really looking for,
03:07and the quality of hair with extensions,
03:10you pay for what you get.
03:12Because I'm cheating, I didn't take everything out,
03:15but my top is out.
03:18I really just have two on my sides now,
03:19but it feels so much better.
03:22So basically, even when I'm removing on clients,
03:24I like to start from the top and work my way down.
03:27I recommend doing your sides first,
03:29just so that you can get the feel of it.
03:31Once you get to the back,
03:32you can position your mirror so that you can see what you're doing.
03:35If not, then the way that I like to do it
03:37is I like to just feel it.
03:39And as long as you keep your section up
03:41and keep putting the hair up top,
03:43you just work your way down.
03:44Nothing gets left behind.
03:46No residue gets left in the hair
03:47because you are working section by section.
03:49It's important to take them out properly
03:51because if you don't, you can cause damage.
03:54And a lot of extensions have a bad reputation
03:57because of a bad application or because of bad removal.
04:01So as long as you have the right tools
04:02and you remove properly, then there is no damage.
