00:11In the fall of 98, when A Bug's Life finished, Toy Story 2 was evaluated by John Lasseter
00:15and some of the other directors, and they decided that it needed to get completely rewritten.
00:20I was the editorial manager. On a standard film, editorial can be a little nuts. Now,
00:24you take the fact that we were having to make this film in about seven or eight months.
00:27It was normally a four-year process. Every single hour was like a ticking clock.
00:31We were frequently actually working 36 to 48 hours straight. It was like a psych experiment.
00:36Okay, there's a two-way mirror somewhere with some psychologist in a white coat saying,
00:41Now make the Avid crash.
00:46You know, I mean, people bursting into tears. Just a crazy, crazy amount of drama around everything.
00:54We had an editor who hated tomatoes. And again, 36 hours in, the sandwiches would come in,
01:01and for whatever reason, there was a tomato on the sandwich. The editor freaks out.
01:04There's a tomato on my sandwich! Because you just had no perspective. It was just madness.
01:10I actually think it's an example of the tightest film that's ever come out of the studio. I don't
01:14think there's a wasted frame in it. And if we'd had three years, if the movie would have been any
01:18better,
01:18I think the movie might have actually suffered from having more time.
