00:10we're making a film like toy story 2 we use a bunch of linux and unix machines on those kinds

00:20as it can have you ever accidentally dropped something out of your pocket while the toilet
00:25is flushing that's rm star somebody had run rm star on the drive where all of the toy story 2
00:32files were kept and things just started to disappear what he's had disappeared and then
00:36his boots disappeared and then as we kept checking he disappeared entirely what he's gone seconds later
00:42looking up the rest of the characters on the show buzz potato head ham and rex had all vanished and
00:46soon after that whole sequences the toy barn and andy's room were disappearing off the disk drive
00:51right in front of her eyes if you had 20 or 30 people working for a solid year you could

00:56all of that work erased and probably about 20 seconds so i grabbed the phone transfer me to
01:02systems so they transferred me to the assistance group and i said unplug the machine just pull it

01:12out plug the machine back in take a look at it wow a lot of the film's gone back most

01:18better tell galen technical director of the film i remember thinking wow this is really bad but no
01:22worries we're going to get our backups and we realized that the backups we had were actually bad
01:31what do you mean backups have failed for the last month and we don't have any backups at this point
01:37galen mentioned to me in a meeting that she thought she had a copy of the film at her house
01:41so as a mother who wanted to see her children i needed to have a computer at home and so

01:48copy the entire film to my computer
01:53we got the machine wrapped it in blankets and pillows and put seat belts all across it in the
01:56back seat talk about a back seat driver slow down so oh easy careful he was rocking and you know
02:02mumbling to himself and coaching me along i went to pixar and four or five of us carried it in
