00:35And this is Runway Mater.
00:37Here we start with Mater looking at a magazine.
00:39Hey, Mater.
00:40What are you doing?
00:41Uh, I was just thinking about the time I was a fashion runway model.
00:44What?
00:45Yeah, I was at Flo's minding my own business.
00:47In comes this French pity car with a blue beret.
00:50Oh, oh my, oh, that face, yes, yes, that profile.
00:57Tell me, would you like to be an internationally famous model?
01:01Sure.
01:02Why not?
01:02First, I started modeling tires.
01:07Then I hit the runway circuit.
01:16And from there, I went to Japan, promoting all kinds of products.
01:20My face was everywhere.
01:22I even got my own commercial.

03:26Hi, my name's Scott Morse, and this is Backwards to the Forwards, an early Cars tunes pitch
03:31that we did a first pass of, and it became the last pass of it as well, but it's kind
03:36of a fun one.
03:37We open up on a clock tower, a classic clock tower, and Mater and McQueen are watching,
03:41and McQueen kind of looks over, and we see the clock strike one minute, and Mater freaks
03:45out.
03:45Ah!
03:46What's got into you?
03:47Well, you know, time traveling really freaks me out.
03:49McQueen's all, Mater, just because the clock moves doesn't mean we're time traveling.
03:53Mater says, shoot, I know more about time traveling than you.
03:57I used to be a genuine time machine.
03:59McQueen kind of looks at him and goes, oh, I've got to hear this one.
04:02Mater's all, you sure do.
04:03It all started when I was driving in this thunderstorm, and we crossed us off to a stormy night, and
04:07Mater comes rolling up the road and gets zapped by lightning.
04:11Sheriff is over behind his speed trap, and he kind of sees Mater getting zapped, and
04:14he's all, hmm?
04:14Mater?
04:15Are you okay, son?
04:16You shouldn't be driving out in this storm.
04:18And Mater says, I think I'm okay.
04:19I better do me a diagnostic check to be sure.
04:22Side view mirrors?
04:23Check.
04:24Uh, headlight?
04:25Because he only has the one.
04:26Check.
04:27Toe thingy?
04:28Clink, clink.
04:29Check.
04:31Exhaust?
04:31Check.
04:32Sheriff says, you think you can drive?
04:33Mater says, I don't know.
04:34Let's see.
04:34Uh, forwards?
04:35Check.
04:37Backwards!
04:37And he just kind of takes off.
04:39And he kind of goes into this weird time portal leaving a flaming trail, and we see him going
04:44back through time.
04:45And he kind of reappears in what looks like Radiator Springs.
04:48There's flows, and he's kind of looking around.
04:50And he sees Sheriff, and he drives over to Sheriff.
04:51He's all, Sheriff, what in tarnation just happened?
04:53Sheriff kind of looks at him.
04:54I don't know, but you look like a wreck.
04:56Take a bath, you hobo.
04:57Mater's kind of confused.
04:58He wheels over, and we notice in the background it says, Lou's House of Tires.
05:02Not Luigi's.
05:03Well, something ain't right.
05:04We see another blue truck roll up that looks just like Mater, a vintage Mater.
05:07And this Mater says, well, hey there.
05:09And our Mater says, well, hey there, you're sa-
05:10What?
05:11And he kind of freaks out.
05:12He says, oh, you look like you rolled out of the factory in 1955.
05:14And the blue Mater says, that's funny.
05:16I did just roll right out of the factory.
05:18And it is 1955, you crazy old truck.
05:20And Mater freaks out.
05:21Gah!
05:22He realizes he's talking to himself, and when he goes backwards, he goes back through
05:25the time portal again.
05:26Since being zapped by that lightning, he goes back through time.
05:30And ends up in the middle of the desert.
05:32He kind of pulls to a stop past this couple of old cars, an old Model T, and an old
05:35Model
05:36T truck that are sitting next to this bubbling brook.
05:38And Mater says, hey, old timers, where are we?
05:40I think I'm lost.
05:40And the Model T turns around.
05:41We see that it's Lizzie.
05:43And she says, who you calling old timers?
05:44And Stanley looks up, and he's all, now, Lizzie, let's not give this dandy the business.
05:48We're just filling up our radiators here at this old spring.
05:50Did you just say Radiator Springs?
05:52And Stanley says, you know I didn't.
05:54But that sure do have a nice sound to her.
05:56Radiator Springs, established 1925.
05:58And Lizzie says, oh, Stanley.
06:00Mater freaks out.
06:011925.
06:02But that means I'm time traveling.
06:06And he goes into reverse and pops up in what looks like ancient Rome this time.
06:10There's a bunch of chariots that are growling at each other, having a chariot battle.
06:13And Mater just busts right through them.
06:15Gladiators kind of fall, and they look at him, and they're all, ah, ah.
06:18You know, very primal.
06:19And Mater's freaking out.
06:20Ah, and they chase after Mater.
06:21Mater doesn't know what he's gotten himself into.
06:23And because he's driving backwards, he zaps back through time again.
06:26Appears back in a really primordial era.
06:29And he kind of stops and looks around.
06:30This is kind of a misty, you know, tropical jungle.
06:33And he's never seen flowers this colorful and beautiful before.
06:36And you get to see him here in glorious black and white.
06:38But trust me, they're colorful and beautiful.
06:40And Mater looks around, and he says, well, this is kind of pretty.
06:42And he's a little bit more at ease, and he rolls up to a big oil pit.
06:44He's all, look at them oil bottles.
06:46Doesn't realize this is a tar pit.
06:47And we hear some rumbling in the jungle.
06:51And a wheel rolls into frame.
06:52And another wheel.
06:53And they're made out of stone.
06:54And they're all kind of looking at Mater.
06:56Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
06:58They don't know what to do with Mater.
06:59It's all, hey, they're kind of funny.
07:00Oh, oh.
07:01Kind of tries talking back to them.
07:02And behind Mater out of the tar pit, a big,
07:04comes an actual dinosaur.
07:06Because, you know, Dinoco had to have been named after something.
07:09And Mater kind of freaks out again.
07:10And the wheels run.
07:11And another dinosaur grabs Mater.
07:14And it's a big T-Rex.
07:14And it throws him up into the air.
07:16And Mater's all, ah, because he was flying backwards through the air.
07:19He zaps through the time portal.
07:21He's still in the air.
07:22But he's flying past these shapes.
07:23And he realizes they're flying cars.
07:25So now he hasn't gone back into the future.
07:27He's gone forwards into the future.
07:30And Mater's flying.
07:31And one of them flies up.
07:32And it's got buck teeth.
07:33And it's a flying tow truck.
07:34And Mater kind of looks.
07:34And there's this crazy city from the future.
07:36And the flying tow truck has caught Mater.
07:37And we cross us off back to McQueen.
07:39He's still listening to this crazy story Mater's telling.
07:41He's all, Mater, there's no way you traveled through time.
07:43Ah, shoot.
07:44You remember?
07:44You was there, too.
07:45What?
07:46We see the time portal kind of appear behind McQueen.
07:48And Mater pops in.
07:49And there's two Maters looking at McQueen.
07:51He freaks out when he sees the other Mater.
07:52Ah!
07:53And McQueen's all, wow, there's two Maters.
07:55And the other Mater flies up into the air.
07:57And we see his wheels kind of retract underneath.
07:58We see that one can control time.
08:00And it freaks McQueen out.
08:01And Mater kind of looks up at the clock.
08:02And it ticks again.
08:03And Mater freaks out, ah, and freaks backwards.
08:05And we iris out.
08:07So again, this was an early pitch.
08:09It was a first pass that was done in maybe the course of, I don't know, three or four
08:12days to get ready for a pitch.
08:14And I'm not even sure that it ever even really got pitched.
08:17But it has been now.
08:18And you got to see backwards to the forwards.
08:21Thanks.
08:26Hi.
08:27I'm Rob Gibbs.
08:28And this is Mater Goes to the Carnival.
08:30We start out with a car being towed by Mater.
08:32Mater's driving along the road, whistling.
08:34And then all of a sudden, he stops and drops his tow fare.
08:37And he drives up and sees the Carnival.
08:39It looks like so much fun.
08:40Cars going on roller coasters.
08:42Yay.
08:43They're all screaming, having fun.
08:44Cars on the Ferris wheel.
08:45The Whirler.
08:46Cars inside the Whirler are spinning around really fast.
08:48One of them gets sick.
08:49And oh, it's gross.
08:50Mater's like, that looks like fun.
08:52So he tells the guy, hey, do you mind if I go check out the Carnival?
08:55What?
08:55I ain't going nowhere.
08:56Okay, I'll be right back.
08:57So Mater runs into the Carnival.
08:59He's amazed at all the fun things he sees.
09:01Car playing bug slug.
09:02Boink, boink, boink, boink.
09:04Mater drives up to the fun house.
09:05And it's like, of course, I got to go in there.
09:07He peeks inside and heads on in.
09:09And the spinning thing spins him around and throws him in.
09:12And he's immediately scared by all the scary images in the mirrors.
09:15And then he turns a corner and all the things that scare cars,
09:17like red lights, falling rock sign, higher puncture apparatuses, wrong way.
09:22Mater screams and runs out.
09:23He gets lifted off frame.
09:25And we see that his tow hook has got caught on a Ferris wheel.
09:26And he jumps off, but he ends up into the bumper cars.
09:29And the car's inside with bumpers on, bumping him and crashing into him.
09:32And he gets bumped out of there.
09:33Boom!
09:34And into the fortune teller tent.
09:36Mater sees himself in a reflection of the crystal ball.
09:38And the fortune teller's in there.
09:39She says, your future is closer than it appears.
09:42Huh?
09:42Whoa!
09:43Freaks Mater out.
09:44He drives backwards.
09:44Ding!
09:45We see a sign that says, I can guess your mileage.
09:47We pull out.
09:47Mater's freaking out.
09:49He gets caught.
09:49And the guy guesses his mileage exactly.

09:54Mater looks inside.
09:55He's right!
09:56So he drives and he gets stuck behind two cars and sandwiched in between a big truck
09:59and gets pushed into line.
10:00And onto a track.
10:01The door slams shut.
10:02Zoom!
10:02It takes off.
10:03It's a roller coaster.
10:04Oh, no.
10:05Mater's heading on his way up the roller coaster.
10:07Sees his point of view as he gets up toward the very top.
10:09And down he goes, whoa!
10:13He's freaking out.
10:14And the roller coaster is going over loop-de-loops and zoom!
10:17And then it finally comes to a stop.
10:19Oh, Mater's all sick.
10:21He drives off.
10:21And outside the carnival to the car he was towing.
10:23And the guy says, uh, that was the carnival.
10:25And Mater says, it was awesome!
10:26I love the carnival!
10:28And we end with him driving off and see some cars having fun.

10:44Yep, back when I was in Japan.
10:46I was known as the Drift King.
10:50I was so famous, I even had my own honorosh that grew every day.
10:55Most of the times, we'd just cruise around the city.

11:06Mater, I wish to lead the gang, so I challenge you to a drift-off.
11:10Huh?

12:01Well, what happened to us as imports?
