00:00What drew you to hosting a series like Cocktail Wars?
00:03Well, they said, hey, would you like to do it, Lance?
00:05And I said, no.
00:07And when I said no, they said, well, you have no choice.
00:09And I went, okay, are you sure?
00:11Do we have to do it?
00:12Does Lance have to do it?
00:13What about Taylor Swift?
00:14Can Taylor Swift do it?
00:15And they said to me, no.
00:16So I said, okay, no.
00:18They actually approached Lance first, and then I came along really like they thought of both of us to be
00:22a part of the show.
00:23We looked at it.
00:24Anything for us that we like to have fun, and it's kind of in our wheelhouse, or, again, we travel
00:28around the world.
00:29We have tasted many drinks before.
00:30We do like to drink responsibly, of course.
00:32But it's one of those things where we're open to experimenting and broaden our horizons, which we did in the
00:40show, which I've never been a gin drinker, never liked gin.
00:43And with these mixologists and what they do and what they came up with, I'm liking gin now.
00:47It's pretty crazy.
00:48Who's gin?
00:50Well, he's the guy that makes us all feel better when you have a drink.
00:53Okay.
00:54That's his name, gin.
00:55Well, and back when you two were touring regularly, who was the designated bartender?
01:00Oh.
01:01I don't think we really had one because we didn't really have much time to drink on the road.
01:06Right, right.
01:06The only time we drank, though, is maybe on the bus on the way to the next city.
01:10Or, actually, which you never told us to anyone.
01:12What are you talking about?
01:13You know, the last show on tour, every single tour, you and I would always put, like, Jack and Coke
01:19in our water bottles.
01:19Oh, yeah.
01:20And so we would have drinks during the summer.
01:22The last show.
01:23Like, the last three, the last few songs.
01:25It wasn't the whole day.
01:25No, not the whole, but, like, yeah, the last show.
01:27Like, the last two songs.
01:28We were like, let's have a celebratory drink.
01:29Yeah.
01:29And then the guys kind of got mad.
01:31It's like, you shouldn't do that.
01:32We're like, come on.
01:32They always think we're not serious.
01:34But, hey, do we perform every day?
01:35Yeah, we did.
01:36Do we come up and present?
01:37Did we have any leads?
01:38No.
01:39No.
01:39Was there any pressure?
01:41No.
01:41And the third person on the judging panel is beverage consultant Melissa Brook, who really knows her stuff.
01:47Thank goodness.
01:48What is the most interesting thing you learned from her?
01:50A lot.
01:51I mean, from Melissa.
01:52We've learned a whole bunch, because she was starting to say some terms.
01:55I'm like, I'm sorry, what is that?
01:55What's a flip?
01:57And they're like, oh, they did a flip.
01:58I'm like, well, what exactly does that mean?
01:59And that's using the whole egg in the drink, believe it or not.
02:01Had no idea.
02:02Learned about the wash line.
02:04We learned about free pouring.
02:06What else?
02:07I mean, just how.
02:08It's just cool.
02:09It's fascinating.
02:10The way, I mean, it's chemistry, you know, with these mixologists.
02:13And we learned a lot.
02:14So we started the season as what we thought we knew what we were talking about.
02:18And then we learned quickly that we didn't.

02:25Well, and Lance, you document on your social media living with type 1 diabetes.
02:29How did you take care of your health during filming?
02:31That's a good question.
02:33That was very fun to watch for me, because it was like he was constantly watching, or someone literally was.
02:38From a standpoint of something else is to say it, literally, they were watching.
02:43At one point, I think his manager was on a plane texting us going, can you look at his numbers?
02:48Your sugar's going low.
02:49Get him some sugar.
02:51It is, you know, it is complicated, of course, when you do a show like this, because, you know, the
02:56mixers are what really get you.
02:59And that's why I always stuck to, like, vodka soda, because I know I can do that.
03:02Well, now, doing this show, I've learned all these different cocktails I can have that doesn't spike my glucose.
03:08Now, there's certain things like a margarita or a pina colada that's going to kill me, but other than that,
03:13you know, I think we did well.
03:15A lot of water on the set.
03:16A lot of people watching my levels.
03:17Just watching the levels a whole bunch of all the time.
03:19Literally, every time we took a drink, they were watching.
03:21But it's not even, like, the drinks that are doing it.
03:23It's just standing for hours.
03:24You know, that type of stuff really affects you.
03:26So, yeah, I have a whole team watching it.
03:28And, see, kids, even with diabetes, you can do anything.
03:32You can host a cocktail workshop.
03:34That's right.
03:34You can enjoy a pineapple margarita with a sugar rim.
03:37Totally.
03:39And, Joey, there are some extremely tricky feats that these mixologists are asked to execute, like, you know, smoking a
03:47cocktail or telling a story centered around a cocktail.
03:50You know, what skills challenge impressed you the most?
03:53You know, the one that actually did really impress me was the one where they had to make the same
03:58drink over and over again.
03:59I don't think that episode, obviously, has not come yet.
04:01But there was one instance that each contestant had to make a specific drink but make it exactly the same,
04:07exactly the same color.
04:08It has to be the same line across the board.
04:11I think one person made, like, six or seven on one drink.
04:14Somebody else made six or seven on another.
04:15And somebody made 14 Manhattans, I believe it was, in a row.
04:20And we had to try all of them.
04:21And we had to try all of them.
04:23And, again, we just a little drop, drop, drop, drop.
04:25But that's where I'm amazed at when you're making the same drink, how to make it exactly the same way
04:31as the other one.
04:32And then on top of that, the added layer of doing television.
04:35I mean, these mixologists have never done television.
04:37So you're making all these drinks that are now dying on the bar with ice that's melting and these hot
04:42lights.
04:43It's a whole other level that you don't even think about.
04:46And, Lance, you know, there are several Real Housewives of Celebrity Guest Judges.
04:50Melissa Gorga, Sonya Morgan, Ramona Singer.
04:53And a rotating bar of Celebrity Guest Judges.
