00:00I think one of the good things to me, Clint,
00:03is Woody Marks looks like he could be the breakthrough player
00:11for the Texans this year.
00:14There's a combination of he got great experience
00:18and I want to assume confidence last year.
00:22And I think his role is being more defined
00:25and they're going to use more of him.
00:28If you are at today's practice,
00:31and understand he has had a really good camp anyway.
00:35We saw that Peter Schrager did a list of top five players
00:38that many people aren't talking about
00:40and Woody Marks was on it,
00:42who's having a good camp that he keeps hearing his name
00:45that many people aren't talking about.
00:46Woody Marks was on that.
00:48And he does, D'Amico said it earlier in the offseason,
00:52he does look faster, stronger,
00:55and to me, more confident in what's going on around him
00:59as a second-year player.
01:01He is a guy that can take a jump.
01:03Today, Clint, he ran the ball hard
01:05and ran in a goal-line red zone touchdown,
01:12ran it in for about four yards right in.
01:15It was a tough, hard run, physical run,
01:17like we've seen Woody do.
01:19He caught a touchdown pass in the red zone.
01:22Hell, the one bad play or bad interception,
01:26I don't even know if it was a bad interception,
01:28but it was at least an interception from C.J. Stroud,
01:30was because they were trying to hit him deep
01:32on a wheel route.
01:33Well, like that was the only ball in big play
01:37that I can remember being thrown over 20 yards
01:41was a wheel route attempt to Woody Marks
01:43to kind of let you know maybe where they're seeing him
01:47and the ways they can use him.
01:49And then I think he had the play of the day
01:52in the play where I would say got the most oohs and eyes
01:56was in punt return.
01:58And he was in punt return and just ran over
02:02one of the Raiders players.
02:04Number 34, I mean, just trucked his ass
02:06and kept on going past him.
02:09And the whole crowd was going nuts right there.
02:11And it's just, he got his hands on the ball,
02:15on the football, and got involved in it
02:17from running the football, catching the football
02:20out of the backfield, and then in the passing game,
02:22I mean in the return game.
02:23So Woody Marks to me is impressive.
02:26And he has got his, we've talked a lot about Higgins,
02:29Noel, a lot of guys on this.
02:31He has got as good a chance to take a step
02:34and leap for this offense as any of the young players.
02:37This is another one of the biggest takeaways from today.
02:39I mean, there's obviously the O-line situation.
02:42There's obviously Jaden Higgins and the injury.
02:45There's clearly a good day by C.J. Stroud.
02:48There's a lot to take away from today's joint practice.
02:50But this is the one, for one, I like to be right,
02:55to be honest with you.
02:55Woody Marks, I think Woody Marks is,
02:59we've talked about it multiple times here, man.
03:02I just, Ron, I truly believe that in that utility back role
03:06is where he best fits.
03:08Now he's got the luxury of if you need him
03:10as a every down back, he can do that as well.
03:13But I think if you're talking about how does this guy
03:16best help this organization win,
03:19not where you need him the most,
03:21because if you need a number two back
03:23or if David Montgomery goes down and you need a number one back,
03:26he can do it.
03:26And that's a beautiful thing.
03:28But if you said, perfect world, how does this guy help a team win?
03:31I think it's what you just described.
03:33Catching the ball out of the backfield,
03:34stretching the field with the wheel route or a shoot route,
03:37helping on special teams.
03:38Maybe not all the time, but definitely when you need a big one,
03:41you get the ball in his hands.
03:42I just feel like Woody Marks,
03:44I can't let go of the Mississippi State days with Mike Leach.
03:49That will forever be ingrained.
03:51I mean, he's one of the – I have no reason to remember anybody,
03:54even the good players from Mississippi State.
03:56No shade, no shade from the Bulldogs,
03:58but I just have no reason you don't win enough
04:01and I don't watch you enough for me to go, yeah, man, this guy.
04:05You can't start saying no shade
04:07and then proceed to just throw as much shade as you can.
04:10I don't expect anybody – like I don't expect anybody to know
04:13what the hell's going on in Arkansas because we don't win enough.
04:15But I just – Woody Marks is a guy that has always stuck in my mind
04:20and I can see him in that Mike Leach offense.
04:23Not that this offense is anything remotely close,
04:25but that role of getting the ball in exotic ways, man,
04:29the dude is dangerous.
04:30The dude is a weapon.
04:31And so it sounds like today they were able to mix him in
04:34in some different scenarios and some different packages
04:37and use him more like a weapon,
04:38and it looked like it bared fruit.
04:40Yeah, yeah, he got his hands, you know,
04:44on the football in three different areas of the field on special teams
04:50and then obviously in the run of the pass game, multiple ways.
04:54He caught multiple balls today, had multiple runs.
04:57So, yeah, he looks like he's primed and ready.
05:00Someone text in, Ronnie, it's Ron.
05:02Everything is good for the Texans until the season starts.
05:05That's not true.
05:05The Texans have won double-digit games all three seasons,
05:09the last three seasons, and have made it to the divisional round.
05:12Stop.
05:13They've won the division twice.
05:15It's it.
05:15It's it.
05:16The arrows pointed out.
05:17There had to have been some good in there.
05:19You're crazy.
05:20Had to have been.
05:21Had to have been.
05:22All right, I got to get to the bad, Clint.
05:25And, you know, I told you I respect this about the Texans.
05:30Oh, no.
05:31That they will.
05:32They ain't going to just pay play you because you got paid a certain amount of
05:36money for the most part or you got drafted somewhere with exception of
05:40Kenny Green.
05:40They're not going to just just play you.
05:43They're going to make you, you know, win your spot.
05:46And Clint, man, it looks like this this Wyatt Teller thing is is not it right
05:53now.
05:53He is struggling big time.
05:55He has been dropped, you know, to the to the second unit and not just sometimes
06:00Clint.
06:00He is remained on the second unit.
06:03He got all second unit snaps today and deserves them.
06:07And that has kind of been the thing for the last several days in practice since
06:12the weekend.
06:13Clint, he has dropped to the second unit and there were multiple holding calls.
06:18He was getting beat pretty quick.
06:20You know that this is this is a tough, tough look for Wyatt Teller.
06:27And maybe even when you look at Nick Casario, who brought him in, you know, for a
06:31guy who's making eight million dollars.
06:33That's a tough look because he doesn't look like he is anywhere close right now
06:39for them to be cracking the starting lineup.
06:42And I would assume that was their anticipation when they brought him in.
06:45Oh, look, there's no doubt about it.
06:47This is this is the problem in Houston.
06:50Now, look, the good thing is, as I've said before, you got guards playing guards,
06:54centers playing center and tackles playing tackles.
06:56And you got really good depth.
06:57So you've got options.
06:58So there's no reason to panic.
06:59But but the reality of it is, if you zoom out and look at this thing, Ron, from a
07:0330,000 foot view, you got Wyatt Teller, two years, 16 million dollars, eight and a
07:10half guaranteed, five something, five and a half sign at signing.
07:15Right.
07:16Yeah.
07:17Looks like he might be out of a job.
07:18Then you slide over to the right tackle position and you got Braden Smith, who I
07:24think is 12, 12 and a half a year with a good chunk of that, that guaranteed.
07:29And it looks like he's in a battle for his position would not just Trent Brown.
07:34Hell now, Blake Fisher's getting run with the ones.
07:37So the literally you brought in three veteran free agents on the offensive line, paid them
07:43good money.
07:44The only one that appears to be plug and play and zero concern is Ed Ingram, the one that
07:50you that was in your locker room, the safest one of the bunch.
07:53The two offensive linemen that took a little bit of, hey man, what's the scouting
07:57department reading?
07:58Hey man, what, what, what's our gut feeling?
08:00How do we feel about these guys?
08:01Are they some of the best on the market?
08:03Yep.
08:03Those two guys are in a fight for their football life in the starting role with
08:09guys that are either making half what they're making or nobody even thought they'd be in
08:14a competition with Blake Fisher.
08:16Nobody even thought they'd be in that competition when the season started.
08:20So, um, again, the beautiful thing with Nick and D'Amico have done is they, they got
08:24really good depth that play those particular positions.
08:28So all as well, you got plenty of options, but boy, when you look at the money situation,
08:34it is not a pretty sight for Wyatt Teller and Braden Smith to be guys that are, that are
08:39fighting for their lives.
