Two individuals linked to the death of 'Rocky' the dog have been charged with committing animal cruelty.

S. Roghini Devi, 42, and Muhammad Shah Idham Nor Haikal Shaharom, 24, pleaded not guilty at the Klang Sessions Court on Thursday (Aug 20) to causing unnecessary pain or suffering to the animal by pulling and strangling it on July 29.

00:01Two individuals linked to the death of a male dog named Rocky have pleaded not guilty in court.

00:14pleaded not guilty at the Clang Sessions Court on Thursday to committing animal cruelty.
00:20S. Rogini Devi, aged 42, and Muhammad Shah Idam Norhaikal Shaharam, 24, entered their pleas before Judge Mujib Saroji.
00:30Rogini Devi is accused of unreasonably pulling the dog, while Muhammad Shah Idam Norhaikal is accused of strangling the animal
00:37using a looped rope.
00:38The alleged offence took place outside a house in Taman Telok Gedong Indah, Port Clang, between 11pm and 11.30pm
00:47on July 29th.
00:49Both are charged under Section 29, Subsection 1E of the Animal Welfare Act 2015,
00:56punishable under Section 29, Subsection 1 of the same Act,
00:59which carries a fine of between RM20,000 and RM100,000, up to three years jail, or both, upon conviction.
01:08Selangor Veterinary Services Department, Prosecuting Officer, Muhammad Sharif Sabran,
01:13proposed bail of RM20,000 for each of the accused, with one surety, along with conditions that they surrender their
01:21passports and report to the department once a month.
01:25Lawyer Jeremy Vinesh Anthony, representing Rogini Devi, pleaded for lower bail of RM3,500 without any additional conditions.
01:34He argued that his client, a mother of four, was supporting family members, including a husband who is a person
01:41with disabilities.
01:42Lawyer Muhammad Rafiq Rashid Ali, representing Muhammad Shah, who works as a delivery worker,
01:48also requested bail of RM3,500, arguing that his client was not a flight risk.
01:54The court subsequently set bail at RM6,000 each for both accused, with one surety,
02:00on condition they report to the Selangor Veterinary Services Department once a month.
