00:13testifying as the fourth plaintiff witness in 1MDB's US$5.64 billion 2021 civil suit against
00:20eight defendants, including former Prime Minister Najib Razak. During cross-examination, Senior
00:26Counsel GK Gunnison, representing former 1MDB Investment Director Calvin Tan, referred Shahrol
00:31to a suit filed by 1MDB against Deutsche Bank and other parties in August 2021. The suit accused him
00:38of fraudulent breach of duty, fraudulent breach of trust and corporate irresponsibility. When asked
00:45why 1MDB had made those allegations while also calling him as a witness in the current proceedings,
00:51Shahrol said the question should be put to the company.
00:54He also confirmed that he had been summoned to testify and said his role was to tell the truth,
01:00not assign blame. Shahrol rejected a suggestion that he had entered into an arrangement with 1MDB
01:06in exchange for his testimony. When Gunnison suggested he had agreed to blame Calvin Tan and Najib,
01:12Shahrol replied that he had come to tell the truth, not blame anyone. 1MDB and its subsidiaries filed the
01:195.64 billion US dollar civil suit on May 7th 2021, naming Najib and seven others as defendants. The
01:26company accused them, among other things, of breach of trust, breach of statutory duty, abuse of power and
01:33conspiracy to misappropriate 1MDB funds. The trial before Judicial Commissioner Redzwan Idris resumes next Wednesday.
