00:20who braved the heat down in the 305 to get us to scoop Paul what's going on my man how

00:27you are you mark safe I'm feeling a little uh a little uh drained if you if you want to
00:33know
00:33the truth you know I'm not a big Gatorade guy you know I don't like it you know look you're
00:38an
00:38athlete you had to do something when you're practicing right I'm watching I'm drinking you
00:44know as much water as I can um I'm not a big Gatorade guy but they were pushing the Gatorade
00:48orange Gatorade which I you know that is my favorite Gatorade the classic orange Gatorade
00:52they were doing a really good job on the sideline the uh you know uh Dolphins personnel and everything
00:58hydrate hydrate drink drink so I had like three bottles of water and one Gatorade in a two-hour
01:05practice so um I was hot but I was hydrated it's it's all about branding Paul and you just got
01:12us
01:12an orange Gatorade sponsor for Blue Rush from here on out absolutely I will dump it on you all right
01:18we'll get a big bucket let's do it let's do it uh first things first we got to talk about
01:23the
01:23fights because we saw them on social media different angles looks like Abdul Carter threw
01:28a punch Jermaine Illuminor looks like he was throwing out of practice or or whatnot can you
01:34clear up what you saw from the fights and what was coach Harbaugh's response to it all I mean I
01:41don't think it was out of control you know it wasn't the Jets and Bucks of last week it wasn't
01:46what
01:46the Cowboys and Saints right they just got fined like half a million dollars or something like that
01:52this was not that you know look it was really hot and for the first half of practice it was
01:57steady as she goes you know no issues then eventually it started the first one I saw was um Calvin
02:03Austin
02:03got uh took umbrage to getting hit a little late out of bounds and he had some words and other
02:09people
02:09had words Jameis Winston stepped in very uh forcefully and he got punched it looked like so that started
02:16uh an altercation and the interesting thing it's almost like um in baseball right where the uh
02:21the bench is empty you have one field here where the Giants offense is against the
02:26Dolphins defense and the other field where it's the reverse Giants defense against the Dolphins offense
02:31so when the fight happened on the Giants offense field all of a sudden all both sides come running
02:37across you know to uh cross one field to the other field to join in you know um no big
02:43deal there
02:43yeah it looked like you know uh it looked like um Kayvon Thibodeau at one point shoved the guy down
02:48I saw that um I didn't see the Abdel Carter punch I know on you know some videos saw it
02:54I'm not sure
02:54exactly a punch now the Jermaine Illuminor thing was John Harbaugh said going in he said we're going to
03:02treat this like a game so if you fight if you throw a punch you I'm taking you off the
03:06field because in a
03:07real game you're going to get thrown out of the game or it's going to be a 15-yard penalty
03:11so Illuminor at one point it was a sort of a punch but it was a hand to the face
03:18kind of thing a blow
03:19and that was it Harbaugh said you're off the field and Marcus Bowe came in for the last series or
03:24two
03:24right tackle um you know he said in the game that's going to cost us so Harbaugh was true to
03:29his word
03:30with that one but look it was hot it was to be expected but no bad blood afterwards that I
03:37sensed and
03:37not out of control you know kind of the ordinary fighting NFL summer camp stuff all right now that
03:45we got the WWE aspect of it uh out of the way what were your biggest takeaways from the field
03:51today let's start with Jackson Dart going up against another defense how did both he and the pass game
03:57look I think this was probably the best Jackson Dart has looked considering it's against another team
04:03in the intense heat things like that um look let look we have to remember the Dolphins are
04:09thought of as one of the weaker squads in the league right so this is not like a few years
04:14ago when the
04:15Giants went to Detroit the Lions were considered one of the best most talented rosters in the league
04:20this is not that but it's another NFL team so we have to take it maybe with a little bit
04:25of perspective
04:26here but Jackson Dart looked really good right off the bat one-on-ones what haven't we seen all summer
04:32Brandon deep connections down the field yeah yeah he he hit Darnell Mooney he hit Calvin Austin
04:38these one-on-ones and away we go there was a long one to um uh a moderately long one
04:44to Isaiah Likely
04:44there was a pretty long one to uh uh Malachi Fields so this was you know I think Dart was
04:50like 17 for 23
04:51but there were two of them were spikes that's unofficial so really more like 17 for 21 that's pretty
04:59good in the joint practice you know a bunch of check downs and intermediate stuff to Isaiah Likely
05:03who just looks like he's going to catch a ton of passes this year um there was one um you
05:08know at
05:09the end at the end in the two-minute drill the Giants are getting it trying to get in possession
05:13in position the the the goal of the drill is to get in position to kick a field goal and
05:19he throws one
05:20to uh Theo Johnson the tight end cutting like uh um to his right and it looked like
05:27Theo cut it up and scored and so there was a little bit of confusion some guys were
05:32celebrating we scored that really wasn't the intent of the drill so they put the ball back
05:36and they ran another play and then Jackson Dart spiked it and then uh the rookie Dominic
05:40Zvada came in hit a field goal which is a good way to end so even when the Giants were
05:45really not
05:45trying to score a touchdown they did so um this was a good good looking offensive performance
05:51against the Dolphins in this joint practice let's talk about the running backs we can get into the
05:56running back workload if you want does it look like they're favoring anyone with the carries and did you
06:03get a first look at Najee Harris well they look like they're favoring Cam Scatterman certainly he gets
06:09the first team reps he gets the first carries um I think the running game was okay today it didn't
06:15really bust loose as much as maybe I might have thought but yeah Najee Harris was out there taking
06:20live reps I mean how many days has he been around right and you know this is a guy who
06:25has not been
06:26in a camp he had a torn Achilles what last October that's remember when an Achilles Brandon used to be
06:34bang you're gone for a year you're gone for a year and maybe 13 14 months he's back now he's
06:41not
06:41back he's not ready to play today but he was ready to take some reps in a live screw not
06:47scrimmage a live
06:49practice you know he's not getting thrown to the ground but he's getting knocked around you know
06:52what these joint practices are you get knocked around and sometimes you fall down um there was
06:57one play where a defender bam slammed into Eric Gray Eric Gray really hit hit the grass hard and that
07:04could have started a fight but it didn't Eric Gray got up and took the next carry as well but
07:08Najee Harris did not only take snaps he looks he he he scored on a touchdown and and and made
07:15a move
07:16and put his foot in the ground so um you know if he stays on the course and stays healthy
07:20he will be
07:21heard from I have no doubt about that offensive line wise what did you see that stood out to you
07:28within the big hogs well I saw CC man we know will go out early you know he had his
07:33pants off early
07:34and I thought it looked almost like a heat type situation he had everything off and he went inside
07:39with uh Ronnie Barnes but um John Harbaugh said it was a stinger type a little stinger type thing
07:45doesn't think it's serious okay okay that's good but a stinger is a stinger you know I mean I would
07:52assume this is going to definitely preclude him from playing Saturday right and he's a rookie who they
07:59might want to play but you have a stinger you're not going to play um and Josh Izudu came in
08:04and
08:05looked pretty good um in his place Josh Izudu has been a guard and then he's been a tackle the
08:10last
08:11few years his career trajectory has been down now he's back at guard uh but he looked like he got
08:17a
08:17little banged up he came off the field limping at the end so I'll have to wait and see with
08:21that one
08:22but um the pass protection looked quite good all right let's flip it Riverside let's talk about the
08:28defense because the reports on my Twitter timeline was that the defense dominated so can you go into
08:33detail on what you saw from Denard Wilson's defense and let's start with the pass rush well I mean um
08:41um truth be told I was you know I'm looking at both fields but I was concentrating more on the
08:46offense
08:47but I was able to sneak a peek at the defense enough um to see that um you know Malik
08:53Willis
08:54very often I I watched the snap and it's like okay that play is going nowhere um you know how
09:00many times do you hear someone like John Harbaugh he was asked about he said it was ferocious
09:04what do you think of your pass rush he said it was ferocious now he's not a guy who just
09:08just comes out and just throws praise around like that he said okay now it's not a game we have
09:13to go
09:13do that in a game but it was very encouraging to see that in a joint practice um we asked

09:18Burns afterwards um somebody said um looked like he had six sacks and he goes six sacks
09:23said were you counting he said more more now you know how those guys are right you've been on
09:29field today guys they think everything's a sack you know they get a sniff of the quarterback and
09:33they start going like this right to the ref like oh blow let's go let's go blow it dead blow
09:39it dead
09:39you know they think they have 20 sacks in these practices but I think it was more than six um
09:44and
09:45I think a lot of guys were very active I saw um um Jermon Holland who used to play here
09:50obviously for
09:50the Dolphins he came in on a blitz once looked like a clear sack Drew Phillips once looked like a
09:56clear
09:56sack so um you know you might have expected the Giants up front to do well against the Dolphins and
10:04they did final thoughts Paul from everything you saw from today's joint practice as we head into
10:11Saturday's preseason game well you know what I have a feeling that this is going to be something that's
10:17more of a pick-me-up than the game on Saturday um now our boss said that after action like
10:23this in
10:24this intense heat he will look at some guys and maybe there were some guys who he thought yes I
10:30think
10:30they should play on Saturday and he may limit them or hold them out because of all the work and
10:35if he thinks it was good work today he will maybe take them out so I think you will see
10:41fewer starters
10:42on Saturday than you did in the um preseason over against the Vikings um I think Jackson Dart and John
10:49Harbaugh were asked do you think the team got better today and both said yes so um I think they
10:54got
10:55better and another thing they handled this heat remarkably well two things intense heat look it's
11:02not it's not um it's not 50 degrees in New Jersey I get it but this was intense heat the
11:08likes of with
11:09the Giants have not practiced in West Virginia or in New Jersey so far this summer and don't forget
11:15this practice they're on the field at nine o'clock and they you know they started their their you know
11:20drills in earnest at nine thirty um a lot of teams practice really early in the day the Giants
11:25practice one one thirty so this was all sorts of uncomfortable stuff for the Giants very hot
11:32much earlier you know these guys bodies are attuned to one one thirty I'm practicing this was way earlier
11:38than that um and I think these hard long practices John Harbaugh has had with this team showed up today
11:46that they handled the heat they were getting stronger as the day went on so this was not
11:52culture shock or physical shock whoa you know we've been practicing for an hour and 20 minutes and now
11:57we got to go for two and a half hours or maybe 2 15 in this hot sun they were
12:02hardened by what they've
12:04done so this was hard but not harder than what they've done lastly Paul here's a chance to give some
12:10of the bubble guys a little praise you know we talk about Odell Beckham Jr is he going to make
12:15this team
12:15Dalen Cambry has had a pretty solid camp any of these bubble guys both offensively or defensively
12:22are they some guys that kind of took that step to where since some of the starters may not play
12:28on Saturday you're going to keep an eye out for them or we should keep an eye out for them
12:34on
12:34Saturday's preseason game I mean Odell's an interesting one he was getting open today you know
12:38he didn't have a lot of receptions you know now sometimes that's you know he's also you know he had
12:44he was
12:44on the field with Brandon Allen pretty often the third the third string quarterback you know that's
12:48not going to get you a lot of completions usually a lot of receptions but he was getting open more
12:54than the production so that will be interesting you know what are the Giants looking at there are they
12:59saying he's getting open and in real games we can scheme that and he's still getting open or are they
13:04saying we want to see the production there's still a lot of receivers there's still now Malik neighbors
13:09did nothing today you know this was scheduled they were not going to put him in an uncontrolled
13:14environment this is uncontrolled you can't wear a red jersey you know non-contact jersey and you know
13:20in in in the Giants practice you can you know he had one the other day he goes up for
13:26a ball and two
13:27defenders for the Giants kind of you know we're we're backing off here we're not going to make
13:32contact with Odell you can't do that with the Dolphins they're not going to go for that they're not that
13:36they're going to clock them but they're practicing to make the team as well so um no no Malik neighbors
13:42at all today I'm not surprised he won't play obviously you know I don't think he'll play at
13:46all the preseason so we'll see if he's ramping up is continuing we did not see it today all right
