00:00A farmer threw a bone into a cage. Inside the cage, a black dog ignored the bone completely
00:04and lunged straight at the farmer, biting him. The surprising part was that just one month earlier,
00:09this same dog had been on the verge of starving to death. It was the farmer who had saved its
00:14life by feeding it a piece of bread. After that, the dog received fresh meat and full
00:18meals every single day. But on this one day, the farmer could not provide meat and only tossed in
00:23a bone. Instantly, the dog forgot everything. It did not remember the first piece of bread.
00:28It did not remember the man who had saved its life. All it could think about was,
00:31why am I not getting everything I used to get? In psychology, this is known as hedonic adaptation,
00:37the tendency to get used to what we have and focus only on what is missing. This is also one
00:42of the
00:42reasons behind many breakups and divorces. At the beginning of a relationship, you may put in extra
00:47effort, extra care and extra attention. Over time, those things stop feeling special and become
00:52expectations. Then, one day, instead of giving 100, you can only give 80, the other person no
00:57longer sees the 80 you are still giving. They only notice the missing 20 and say you've changed.
01:02But the truth is, you may not have changed at all. They simply became accustomed to receiving more.
01:07Remember, giving more does not always increase your value. It often increases expectations. And in the
01:12end, people may judge you not by everything you have done, but by what you failed to do today.
01:17This does not happen only in relationships. It happens in jobs, friendships, and almost every area
01:22of life. Once you understand this, life becomes much easier to navigate.
