00:00Oh, yeah, man, I'm here for the interview, but, you know, I'm going to hear what they have to say,
00:05but you know me. I've got about three other offers lined up today.
00:08Yeah, I'm surprised I even made it in. Yeah, all right, bro. Yeah, I'll catch you later. Peace.
00:17This place looks like a high school cafeteria.
00:23I've seen better lighting in a film, huh, I've seen better lighting in a student film set.
00:29This place is a joke.
00:31Good afternoon. You must be Peter. I'm Felicity, the restaurant manager.
00:35I'll be conducting your interview today.
00:37Yep, that's me. Sorry if you've been waiting around.
00:40Traffic was absolutely terrible coming from my last meeting.
00:45Just telling another restaurant owner how hard it is to find good management these days.
00:50Most places don't know how to run a proper operation, you know what I mean?
00:54No problem at all. You're actually early.
00:56Thank you for taking the time to come in today.
00:58Yeah, well, when I heard about this position, I figured I should at least check it out.
01:02You're lucky I had an opening in my schedule.
01:05Look, I'm going to save us both some time here.
01:08I'm the best chef candidate you're ever going to interview.
01:12This is really just a formality since I'm obviously going to get the job.
01:16Well, that's certainly confident of you.
01:20No, it's not confidence. It's just realistic.
01:23I've been cooking professionally for years, and every kitchen I've worked in has improved dramatically once I got there.
01:31Any restaurant would be lucky to have someone with my caliber and my talent working for them.
01:37And most places don't even deserve someone like me.
01:39I can already see ways to improve this place.
01:42Better lighting system, completely different layout, maybe some modern touches to bring into this century.
01:49And a menu probably needs a complete overhaul, too.
01:53I mean, most restaurants, they play it too safe.
01:56They need someone with vision and creativity.
02:01I see.
02:02And what makes you so certain about your qualifications?
02:05Experience, natural talent, leadership abilities, and let's be honest, I'm only considering this position because I heard you pay well.
02:12It's not like I actually need this job.
02:14I've got options.
02:16Multiple restaurants trying to recruit me.
02:18Just thought I'd give you guys a chance to make an offer.
02:21Well, why don't we sit down and discuss your background properly?
02:24I have some questions prepared that will help us understand if this might be a good fit.
02:29Sure, but like I said, this is really just a formality.
02:39Let's start with your background.
02:41Could you tell me about your previous experience in professional kitchens and what specific skills you would bring to our
02:47team?
02:49Well, before we get into all that boring resume stuff,
02:53let me, uh, let me explain something important to you.
02:56I'm listening.
02:58Men are just naturally better chefs than women.
03:01I mean, it's just a biological fact that, you know, everyone in the industry,
03:06everyone knows, but they don't really say out loud.
03:08We can handle the pressure and physical demands of professional kitchens better than women can.
03:15It's about the upper body strength, heat tolerance, and the ability to, you know, think clearly under pressure.
03:22I see.
03:24Um, could we focus on your actual qualifications and experience?
03:28That is my qualification.
03:31I'm a man in the kitchen, and that automatically puts me ahead of any female candidates you might be considering.
03:38Look, I'm, I'm not trying to be mean about it.
03:41It's just biology, and you can't fight biology.
03:44Women get emotional.
03:46They can't handle the stress.
03:47They take too many sick days.
03:49Men, we do it longer, we do it harder, and we're built for it.
03:54Ever since day one, when the first caveman cooked a steak for his woman, and it melted her heart,
03:59we just got better and better and better at it.
04:03That's my resume.
04:05What about your previous positions?
04:08Where have you worked specifically?
04:09I mean, I've worked at all the best restaurants in this city.
04:12Chez Laurent, the Metropolitan, Oceana, Bella Vista.
04:15Every head chef has been impressed with my natural talent and work ethic.
04:20The head chef at Chez Laurent absolutely told me I was the most promising cook he'd seen in years.
04:28He said I had real leadership potential.
04:30And what were your specific responsibilities at these establishments?
04:33Well, I started as a wine cook, obviously, but I quickly moved up because of my skills and initiative.
04:40I was basically running the kitchen at Oceana before I left.
04:44The problem with most restaurants is they don't recognize talent when they see it.
04:49They promote people based on politics instead of mobility.
04:55What specifically attracted you to apply for the position here?
04:59I've heard good things about this place, but honestly, I'm confident I can make significant improvements to both your menu
05:06and kitchen operations.
05:08What kind of improvements?
05:10Well, for starters, like I said, your menu is probably too complicated.
05:14Most places try to do too many things instead of focusing on what they do best.
05:19I bet your food costs are too high.
05:20Most managers don't understand proper inventory management and portion control at all.
05:26Those are interesting observations.
05:28What makes you think our operations need improvement?
05:31The minute I walked in the door, I could feel...
05:33Look, no offense, but most restaurants are just waiting for someone like me to come along and fix everything that's
05:42been going wrong.
05:43I have fresh ideas, modern techniques, and the kind of leadership skills that can turn a good restaurant into a
05:50great one.
05:52I see.
05:53Do you have any questions about the position itself or our current operations?
05:58Yeah, actually.
05:59Why is the current chef leaving?
06:02What kind of problems are you having that created this opening?
06:04Because I want to know what I'm walking into.
06:07If there are management issues or kitchen problems, I need to know so I can fix them.
06:13Our current chef is taking a prestigious year-long position in Copenhagen.
06:16We need someone exceptional to temporarily fill their shoes during that time.
06:21Oh, Copenhagen.
06:22It's actually pretty impressive, I guess.
06:25Must be some kind of a exchange program or a consulting gig.
06:29Who's this chef?
06:30Anyone I might know?
06:32I know most of the serious players in the city's restaurant scene.
06:37Actually, they're here today working in the kitchen.
06:40Let me go get them so you can meet directly.
06:42This will give you a chance to learn more about the position and the expectations for the person who currently
06:47holds it.
06:48Great.
06:48Great.
06:49Great idea.
06:51Finally.
06:52I'm looking forward to see what he's got.
06:54And, you know, maybe get some insider information about this place he really operates.
06:59Maybe I can share some of my own insights about kitchen management while I'm at it.
07:03Look, I've got some ideas that could really help with whoever's taking over.
07:09Yeah, I'm excited to meet him.
07:12Okay.
07:18Nope.
07:20Hell no.
07:24Oh, hi there.
07:25Are you the kitchen manager or something?
07:28Peter, I'd like you to meet Valerie Lopez.
07:32Valerie Lopez.
07:34The Valerie Lopez.
07:36The one with the Michelin stars and the cookbook series.
07:38I had no idea it was you working here.
07:41I mean, I've heard so much about your work.
07:45Your reputation in the culinary world is absolutely incredible.
07:49I've actually read about your techniques in Food and Wine magazine.
07:53The way you revolutionized modern French cuisine is just, it's amazing.
07:59Thank you, Felicity has filled me in on your interview responses, particularly your views
08:05about women in professional kitchens, and your belief that you're automatically superior
08:10to other candidates based on your gender.
08:12No, not automatically.
08:15I'm sorry.
08:16There's been a huge misunderstanding here.
08:19I didn't realize that I was talking about you specifically.
08:23I have tremendous respect for your work.
08:26You're obviously a complete exception to what I was saying earlier, and I thought that went
08:31without saying.
08:32When I was talking about women in kitchens, I was talking about, you know, the type, amateur
08:38cooks, or just without real training or experience, you know.
08:43My respect shouldn't be conditional on my fame or reputation.
08:47You should treat all women in this industry with the same respect you're now trying to
08:51show me, regardless of whether they're internationally known.
08:57I'm so sorry.
08:59You're absolutely right, and I apologize completely.
09:03I was just nervous, and I didn't express myself clearly, like, like at all.
09:08And sometimes when I'm nervous, I say things that come out completely wrong,
09:12but that's not really how I feel.
09:14It's not really how I feel about women chefs at all.
09:16I mean, I think women bring a lot of profession to the kitchen.
09:21They bring attention to detail, creativity, different perspectives.
09:27Your attitude during this interview reveals fundamental character flaws that would make
09:31you unsuitable for any position in my kitchen.
09:35Professional kitchens require teamwork, mutual respect, and the ability to work with people
09:40from all backgrounds, qualities you clearly lack.
09:44But they're qualities that I can learn.
09:46I can definitely change my attitude.
09:50I mean, this job, it means everything to me.
09:53I've been looking for an opportunity like this for months.
09:56I'm telling you, this is fate.
09:59I promise I would be the hardest working person in your kitchen, not just now, but ever.
10:05If this job meant everything to you, you would have prepared better and shown respect from the beginning.
10:12You would have researched our restaurant, understood our values, and come in with humility instead of arrogance.
10:19I did research. I know this is one of the best restaurants in the city.
10:23I know you've won awards and have incredible reviews.
10:27Yet you still came in here assuming the head chef was a man and telling our manager that women are
10:33inferior in professional kitchens. God.
10:36No, you know what?
10:39Now you're making a big mistake here.
10:41You know, any restaurant in this city would be lucky to have me.
10:45And you are going to regret passing up on someone like me with talent and potential.
10:50I've worked in some of the best kitchens in this city.
10:53And every chef I've worked with has been impressed by my skills and dedication.
10:57It's your law.
10:58Right, right.
10:59If that were true, you wouldn't need to tear down other people to build yourself up.
11:04And you certainly wouldn't need to rely on gender stereotypes to justify your qualifications, I mean.
11:10Gender stereotypes.
11:12I was stating facts about the industry.
11:14Most successful head chefs are men because men are better suited for the demands of professional cooking.
11:20We do it longer, we do it harder, and we do it better.
11:25You're proving my point perfectly.
11:28Peter, you should know that I have extensive connections throughout the entire restaurant industry.
11:33Oh, so what? Now you're trying to threaten me?
11:36I mean, I'll make sure other establishments are aware of your unprofessional attitude and views about women in the kitchen.
11:42You know, your influence doesn't scare me.
11:44I'll find a better position elsewhere.
11:46Probably at a restaurant that actually appreciates talent over politics.
11:51And good luck finding someone with even half the qualifications as me.
11:55You'll probably end up hiring some woman who can't handle the heat.
11:59And when this place starts falling apart without proper leadership, don't say I didn't warn you.
12:17Thank you for handling that so professionally.
12:20You protected our restaurant standards while giving him every opportunity to show his true character.
12:26That was certainly one of the more challenging interviews I've conducted in the five years here.
12:30Your composure was impressive. You never let his attitude affect your professionalism,
12:35even when he was being completely inappropriate.
12:39I've learned that people usually reveal who they are if you give them enough time and space to do it.
12:43The best thing you can do is just stay neutral and let candidates show who they really are.
12:48Absolutely. That's very wise.
12:50And it's exactly the kind of judgment and patience we need in management positions.
12:55You know, watching how you handled that situation got me thinking.
13:00What are your long-term career goals?
13:02Have you ever thought about expanding your experience internationally?
13:05Honestly, I've always dreamed of working abroad,
13:08maybe learning different culinary cultures and management styles,
13:11but opportunities like that don't come along very often, especially for someone at my level.
13:16Actually, I have a position for you that might interest you.
13:20I'm listening.
13:21The position I'm taking in Copenhagen isn't just about cooking.
13:24I'll actually be working with a team to develop a new restaurant concept and management approaches.
13:30Once we find suitable temporary staff to cover my role here,
13:32would you consider joining me there for part of the experience?
13:36Are you serious? That would be absolutely incredible.
13:40I think you'd bring exactly the kind of professionalism,
13:43cultural sensitivity, and management skills we need for the project.
13:46I mean, it's perfect.
13:48I can't believe this. When I woke up this morning,
13:50I never imagined today would end with an offer like this.
13:53This is a dream come true.
13:55Thank you so much for considering me for something like this.
13:58Now, let's get back to finding the right temporary chef.
14:02Someone who actually understands what teamwork and respect me.
14:06I have a feeling our next interviews will go much better.
14:08Gotta laugh.
14:11Bitcoin business .
14:14You're welcome.
14:17I play over there.
