00:00you've had experience with this you have seen this up close joint practices all around the nfl
00:05why has this become a thing i mean i think it's always been a thing i think it's one of
00:10those
00:10things where we're now just catching on like the general public media and how much these are
00:17used as evaluation tools for coaching staffs because this has always been and it's not
00:24mandatory it's interesting for me to see the teams that elect to do these and that that don't
00:29and because it's not mandatory i feel like if you are doing them then you want to get a lot
00:33out of
00:34them so like this year for instance the detroit lions are not doing joint practices and i don't
00:39know if that's because they were i remember last year when the bears and lions got like
00:44like they were both what team was it that went to both like back to back the dolphins maybe it
00:49was
00:49the dolphins the dolphins got beat up in both practices yeah it was funny because it really
00:55did give us a window into both team season yeah because we were looking at the dolphins and the
01:01dolphins were like we can't believe that the bears were so physical and people around the bears were
01:05like we can't believe that these guys were so soft and then they went up to detroit and it was
01:10the same
01:11story and i was like guess what there's a common denominator here and it's it's y'all being soft it's
01:17interesting to to to think about like the the way that this works so for the the fan that's sitting
01:23there at home going like okay so the two teams are practicing together what does that give them
01:28that they don't get in a preseason game well there are there's a lot of subculture that goes along with
01:36training camp and after being in an nfl building the training camp is over by the first preseason game
01:44technically that's when training that's when camp breaks that's when veterans get to go home to their
01:48families if they want to they don't have to stay at the team hotel the schedule changes all this
01:53stuff i actually have a video up on my instagram detailing all of this uh and i there's also a
01:58example i show an example of a practice script from a joint practice that i was a part of years
02:04and
02:04years and years ago but there's these there's things called like camp eyes because you've seen the
02:13same thing over and over and over again you'll see tempers start to flare between teammates usually
02:20right before the preseason game because these guys are so sick of seeing each other and then
02:26you get to joint practices and that gives you kind of this injection of energy and it gives you
02:33something that's out of the norm and the monotony because while as a fan you can see these practices
02:39because a lot of them are open to the public what you don't see is the 7 a.m to
02:4411 p.m schedule
02:46that is jam-packed for every one of these players day in and day out so they are exhausted and
02:53you
02:53need this kind of different energy you need a release you need the breakup of the monotony
02:59and that's where joint practices are great on top of that now you've done the installs because
03:05camp is technically over camp is when you install like what your playbook is going to look like for
03:09this season what your scheme is going to look like all that kind of stuff now that the installs are
03:14in
03:14you get to practice them against another team that doesn't know they're coming and you haven't
03:20seen before and so it's a really good evaluation for coaches in a more controlled environment than
03:27a game and you also have it going on simultaneously yes it's multiple so you can have you know if
03:35you
03:35want to go ones versus ones you can go bears one offense versus bangles one defense on one field
03:42you can go bangles one offense right on another field it gives you and that's something that
03:48you can't do during a preseason game
