Popular forest near Paris to reopen after wildfire

Partially devastated by a historic fire in July, part of the Fontainebleau Forest near Paris will reopen to the public on August 22. However, one section of the forest will remain off-limits for the time being. "Since July 12, firefighters have been working nonstop in the forest (...) because the peat layer, which is between 20 and 60 centimeters thick, is smoldering slightly underground," says Lieutenant Colonel Olivier, head of the territorial unit in Fontainebleau.
